Notable Facts

  • Bang always dreamed of becoming a Zoid pilot like his father, Dan Freiheit.

  • Bang loves papayas.

  • Bang almost became Raven's brother, as when Raven was a kid he was discovered by Dan Freiheit's unit. Dan had intended to bring him home to live with their family, feeling that it'd be good for both boys to have someone their age to play with. Unfortunately, Bang's father was killed before this could happen, leaving Raven to fall into the hands of the Empire.

Skills

 Machining Knowledge

Though it isn't explicitly described, Bang's shown on multiple occasions that he has an understanding of machinery. The very first time we meet him he was searching the ruins for parts to fix his Hover Board, and even proclaimed that he'd gone through the ruin countless times before that. He also did rudimentary repairs on the damaged white Gordos.

 Bomb Defusing

Bang was able to quickly and efficiently disable a bomb that'd been set to blow up the Presidential Hammer Head.

Items

 Hover Board

Bang's Hover Board isn't a unique item within the series, but a useful one. It allows him to rapidly glide across the ground, fast enough to keep pace with Irvine's Command Wolf. It can also climb slopes and vertical surfaces, such as scaling ruin walls.

 Guardian Force Pendant

After joining the Guardian Force Bang got a necklace with the emblem to prove his identity.

 Knife

When Bang left home again (at the start of Guardian Force) his sister Maria gave him his father's knife multi-tool. It's also able to act as a grappling device with an attached cable.

History

First Appearance, Episode 1

When we first met Bang he was fleeing through the desert on his Hover Board, pursued by Blu, a member of the Desert Arcobaleno Gang. He escaped into the nearby ruins and found a hidden passage. After following it to a room with two capsules, he found the first to contain a small silver Zoid. It was a dream come true for a boy who wanted so badly to become a Zoid pilot. A fully wild Zoid of his own, he thought.

This perfect meeting was interrupted when the Guysack got inside, breaking through the wall. It attacked Bang and the Organoid, who he'd just named Sieg after his father's Zoid. When Sieg tried to protect Bang, who was injured, he was only hurt worse. Sieg threw Bang onto his back and fled the ruin. He then fused to the abandoned Shield Liger outside, restoring it to combat condition. In spite of his inexperience, Bang was able to flawlessly defeat the bandit's two allies waiting outside.

The Start of the Journey, Episode 2

The Desert Arcobaleno Gang took Maria hostage, demanding that the village trade Sieg for her freedom. Bang found the Shield Liger sluggish, struggling to move like it had before. It wasn't until Sieg woke up and fused to the Liger that it was able to regain its agility and take down the gang. After this, Bang chose to leave so that nobody else would be hurt over Sieg.

Irvine, Episode 3~4

When they ran into Irvine he wanted to take Sieg for himself. They fought it out in their Zoids, only for Irvine to have to retreat after a white Gordos from a ruin stood up to protect Bang. They'd meet again when they were both hired to protect a village from bandits.

Moonbay, Episode 5

Bang saw a Gustav being attacked by Guysacks. The pilot was Moonbay, a transporter who even helped repair his Shield Liger. She was transporting ammunition for the Empire, setting off the sleeper Zoids. Bang and Irvine tried to protect her, but ultimately couldn't. She had to abandon her cargo to save them, asking Bang to be her protector to pay her back.

Indebted To The Republic, Episode 6~7

The Republican Army apprehended the group over the loss of their sleeper Zoids. Though Bang and Irvine escaped, returning later to help Fine and Moonbay, Moonbay had already made a deal with the Republic. They were to destroy Fire Bridge. Only, the explosives intended to do so failed at the pivotal moment. Bang destroyed the bridge with his Shield Liger instead.

Recapturing Sieg, Episode 9

When Sieg was affected by a Rare Hertz, causing him to go wild he attacked his friends, then fled. Bang went after him, almost being killed by Sieg in the process. After the Shield Liger got buried in rubble he found Sieg by the edge of a cliff. He approached him the same way he had when they first met. It wasn't until Bang tried to save Sieg when he slipped off the ledge that the Organoid regained his senses, returning to his normal self to save Bang.

Raven, Episode 12 ~ 14

Soon after Bang met Raven the boy started slaughtering Republic Zoids. Bang tried to stop him, only for the Shield Liger to suffer a humiliating defeat. He confronted Raven again near Kronos Fortress, but still didn't have nearly as much real combat experience as his rival. The Shield Liger was heavily damaged, and Sieg fell unconscious after the battle. Even Irvine, who tried to help them took serious damage to his Command Wolf. After the damage received from the previous battle, Dr. D estimated that Sieg may only have until sun down. If he didn't receive some Zoid Magnite before then, he'd die. Bang went into the depths of the Mt. Ossa caldera and was able to retrieve the magnite. They arrived at dusk but thankfully Sieg was able to be revived.

The Shield Liger's Potential, Episode 15

After hearing Irvine was on Mt. Ossa, where a battle had already begun, Bang rushed to help him. He arrived just in time to save Irvine from a dangerous fall, and protected them from falling debris with the E-Shield. It was his first time realizing that he could use the shield without Sieg.

The Saber Tiger, Episode 17 ~ 18

After being hired to find Hermann, Bang offered to transport him to a nearby Republican Army base to make an emergency call. When they arrived the building was already engulfed in flames. Raven confronted Bang in his Saber Tiger, but this time he had the aid of a real soldier. With Hermann's guidance, he defeated the Saber Tiger. He encountered Raven again at Mt. Ossa, but this time, when the Tiger lunged it got trapped half-way through the active E-Shield. It was torn apart, Raven forced to abandon the Zoid at the last second.

The Geno Saurer, Episode 21

Bang first met Rudolph after accidentally hitting him with a rock he'd thrown. Shrugging off the awkward first impression, he reprimanded Moonbay for trying to take his imperial ring in exchange for helping him get back to his family (Rosso and Viola, who he'd lied about being his parents.) Moonbay relented, but immediately after the Zoids were thrown by a powerful beam cannon fired from the woods. They were confronted by the new Geno Saurer. They had no choice but to retreat, leaving Rosso and Viola to sacrifice themselves to help.

Loss of the Shield Liger, Episode 22 ~ 23

Bang and the others agreed to transport Rudolph to Guygalos, and Bang even tried to teach him to pilot a Zoid. These happy moments were interrupted when they discovered tons of destroyed Redlers, search parties sent to look for Rudolph. It wasn't long before Shadow snatched Rudolph away. Desperate to get him back, Bang confronted Raven. The Shield Liger was shot through the Zoid Core, suffering fatal damage. It died almost instantly, while Sieg just barely saved Bang in time.

Though Rudolph had been kidnapped, Bang was the one who still had the imperial ring. He met with Metternich's group, specifically informing them that he hadn't brought it with him. Figuring they were already the traitorous types, however, Irvine distracted them while Bang zoomed by on a hover board and snatched Rudolph. It took a lot of back and forth trying to evade Metternich's group before Irvine finally defeated them in battle.

The Blade Liger, Episode 24 ~ 25

When Bang discovered the vortex of light he felt an immediate sense of rejection, that Sieg and Fine were cutting him out of the picture. In a fit he stormed off into the desert. He took some time to think, and even considered never piloting a Zoid again. A vision of Fine, claiming she was afraid urged him back to the camp. On the way he was attacked by a red Guysack. He managed to steal it, using the Guysack to fight multiple Dark Horns to save his friends, who were tied up by a bandit, Stinger, and Metternich. Stinger showed his cruelty by killing the Guysack, his own Zoid.

With Bang in serious trouble, Rudolph tried to help, only to be defeated. Bang, trying to help once again was blasted back by a shot from the Saber Tiger. He fell into the vortex of light, where he was able to communicate with Fine. The Liger woke up after its long sleep, newly evolved into the Blade Liger. After that it had no problem taking down Stinger's Zoid.

Awakening of the Death Saurer, Episode 32

After running into Homalev, who recognized Rudolph and escorted them to safety, Bang didn't quite understand all the honors he was being offered. He left in the night to continue his search for Zoid Eve with Fine and Sieg. They found their way to an ancient ruin converted into a research lab. It was there that the Death Saurer first awakened. Bang argued with Prozen about his ideals, even as Prozen tried to compare the people lost through his own ambitions to the countless people that Bang's father had killed on the battlefield. However, realizing that the Death Saurer could only awaken in the presence of an Ancient Zoidian, Prozen kidnapped Fine and dragged her into the ruin. Bang broke through the wall with his Blade Liger and rescued her. They escaped just before the Death Saurer destroyed the facility.

Rematch With Raven, Episode 33

On his way back to Guygalos he faced off against Raven, who was intent to finish what he'd started. The Blade Liger was so heavily damaged that Fine was thrown from the cockpit, Sieg defusing right after. Soon Bang heard the voices of those who'd supported him along the way. The Blade Liger, driven by his determination outmaneuvered the Geno Saurer. He evaded the particle cannon, causing it to break its ankles trying to follow. Even stationary, it managed to snare the Blade Liger. As Bang and his Zoid were reeled in, Fine and Sieg fused to the core. With the Blade Liger repaired, he met the point-blank particle beam head on. The blades neutralized the charged particles just enough for the Blade Liger to push through the attack, driving the Laser Blade into the Geno Saurer's throat, causing it to backfired. The Geno Saurer was destroyed while the Blade Liger leapt to safety. With Raven done, Bang ran towards Guygalos to help Rudolph and his friends.

Saving The Empire, Episode 34

Bang arrived at the battlefield of Guygalos just in time to save Irvine and Moonbay from being shot down by the Death Saurer. With no time to lose he took up arms against the Zoid, but was drawn into a conflicting conversation with Prozen, who claimed to have known his father. Or at least, fought with him over an Organoid. Prozen even claimed to recognize Bang's combat style from his father. Irvine and Moonbay returned the earlier favor by bombarding the Death Saurer, interrupting the troubling conversation. Bang got back to his feet, and this time waited for the right opportunity. While the Death Saurer's particle fan was jammed he charged in with the Blade Liger. The fan threw lose its obstructions at the last second, and though the Blade Liger's shield was engulfed by the Charged Particle Beam, it somehow survived. The small electron impulse vibrations of the blades neutralized the charged particles in the same way they had against Raven's Geno Saurer. He was able to complete the charge, crashing through the Death Saurer's chest. The damage caused the Zoid's body to detonate, saving Guygalos from Prozen's terrifying rampage.

Though Rudolph went on to be declared the official Emperor of Guylos, Bang and Fine set off on their journey to find Zoid Eve rather than attend the coronation.

Guardian Force

Training, Episode 35

After the end of the war Bang Freiheit was taken in as Krueger's trainee and had trained under him for a year, but after passing a difficult combat simulation Krueger decided that he had nothing left to teach Bang and retired.

Bang returned to his home in the Wind Colony, and discovered a wrecked Gustav transporting Fine and Dr. D, who'd been sick when the Gustav was attacked. He brought them to the Wind Colony to recover. Soon after, his sister was also menaced, this time by a red Organoid. Bang fought to protect her alongside Sieg. The Organoid was called away, and right after the village was attacked by the Stealth Viper that'd attacked the Gustav. When Bang finally defeated it, he was invited by Krueger to join a special task force formed as a joint effort between the Empire and the Republic. Its purpose was to hunt down rebels using Zoids for evil, and though Bang hesitated, Fine agreed on his behalf. He was happy to join from there.

The Blue Devil, Episode 37

A month passed since Bang had joined the Guardian Force. They investigated a town where the people, along with a Republic unit had gone missing and found it to be the doing of an ancient Zoidian, Rease. Bang struggled against this new threat as she used her abilities to give him false images of accidentally killing Fine if he tried to fight. In the end, he overcame his fears and rescued both Fine and the townspeople.

Investigations of Various Attacks, Episode 38 ~ 41

Throughout his Guardian Force career Bang investigated a number of other strange groups, all seemingly operating under Hiltz. These included a bandit gang claiming to be part of the Republic while threatening an Imperial town, where he met Thoma. There he'd been mistaken for Hiltz after Sieg got covered in red paint, and was arrested. He then went to the Gigant Ruins with Thoma, investigating attacks on transporters only to find a secret ruin excavation inside a cave, and continued on to investigate a Zoid hunting group performing cruel and fatal experiments on Zoid cores. Not long after, the Holciard Weapons Plant almost overheated, requiring Bang to send Sieg to open the cooling vents while he rescued Fine from the Ancient Zoidian, Rease. All of these events seemed to be linked, but how or why was still unclear.

Raven, Episode 42

After investigating destroyed military bases, one survivor told them that the attacks were connected to a black Organoid. Knowing it could be Raven, somehow still alive, Bang placed himself at the next base expected to be attacked. Sure enough, the attack came from Raven. Though Bang fought with him briefly, disabling his stolen Dark Horn, he stood by and watched as Raven seemed to 'awaken' from a near-catatonic state and escape with Shadow.

Rescuing Emperor Rudolph, Episode 43

After Emperor Rudolph was kidnapped by Stinger, Albert, and Ross, Bang confronted Stinger's new Saber Tiger. He managed to strike it down in spite of it being backed against a cliff and rescued the emperor.

The Geno Saurer, Episode 44

Bang once again joined forces with Irvine after the Command Wolf pilot dropped in on his simulation battle. The two discussed the threat of Raven. In an effort to combat the particle cannon, Dr. D upgraded the Blade Liger's E-Shield. However, in the actual battle, the Geno Saurer overcame the shield by combining its Pulse Laser Guns with the Particle Cannon when the cannon alone wasn't enough. The Blade Liger was left immobilized, and would have died on the spot had Moonbay not blocked the next particle beam with her Gustav, and had Shadow not forced Raven to leave the field.

Storm Sworder SSS, Episode 45

Bang responded to a request for aid after the Republic's still in-development Storm Sworder SSS were stolen. His Liger was launched from a platform to strike down one of the stolen Zoids, but by the time he got into position to relaunch, the battle was over.

The Geno Breaker, Episode 47

When the Geno Breaker awakened, Bang and the others joined the bombardment but failed to destroy the newly-evolved Zoid. Bang pursued, but was quickly defeated.

Breaker Rematch, Episode 50

Bang joined Irvine and Thoma in attempting the Delta Formation. Their intention was to surround the Geno Breaker and take out the foot locks, theoretically disabling its particle cannon. However, as it turned out, the Breaker could fire its CPC from the air, so the operation made no difference. After the Breaker had already wiped out all backup, Irvine's Saix froze and Thoma's Dibison ran out of ammo. Bang took it upon himself to draw the Breaker away. He bet it all on trying the same move he'd used to defeat the Geno Saurer and Death Saurer, but this time, it wasn't enough. The already-damaged Blade Liger was thrown into a canyon.

The White Helcat, Episode 51

After his defeat Bang was washed over a waterfall. He awoke in the village of Nordens, with the villagers fleeing from him. He was rescued by a young boy named Nichalo and his white Helcat, Tirol. Nichalo explained that the villagers hated Zoids, feeling they were nothing but trouble. Bang offered to teach Nichalo how to pilot his Helcat to prove otherwise. That evening the village was attacked by the Imperial Army. Bang stole a Rev Raptor, taking out several others but was cornered. The entire village stood to protect him and they would've been killed had the Guardian Force not arrived. The villagers later explained that 10 years earlier a boy had been killed protecting a young Ancient Zoidian girl. They showed him the ruins where his Helcat had died long ago. Bang couldn't believe it, and was unaware that these same ghosts had saved him that day from a shot fired by Rease's Geno Saurer, which would've killed both him and his friends.

Renewed Power, Episode 52

The Blade Liger's performance was becoming increasingly sluggish to Bang, and no matter how many tests they ran, they all came back normal. Dr. D explained that it wasn't the Liger, but Bang's skill as a pilot. He'd simply outpaced his Zoid. Even adding boosters wasn't enough. The base was attacked by Gun Snipers working under Hiltz's command and the Liger was unable to keep up until Sieg fused to the core, having learned to unlock the Blade Liger's full potential. Bang was then able to defeat the Gun Snipers, including one specially evolved by Ambient.

The Phantom, Episode 53

The Guardian Force learned that Prozen loyalists had hired a hit man to kill Emperor Rudolph, likely at the Guylos Grand Prix. Bang and Thoma kept an eye out, investigating a suspicious boat only for it to be destroyed. They followed the assassin to the emperor's booth. This would've been the end for Rudolph, had he not placed a hologram in his stead. The bullet hit nothing, and the two Guardian Force pilots were there to arrest him after the fact.

The Zi Foundation, Episode 55

The Guardian Force began investigating weapons that were appearing on Zoids with no business having them, such as equipment only recently developed by the Empire. They tracked the weapons back to the Zi Foundation, an organization for war orphans doubling as a weapons development operation. Bang personally defeated the leader of the foundation, Garth, and his Gun Sniper WRR.

The Trinity Ghost, Episode 56

Bang was dragged into investigating the Trinity Ghost by Thoma, a group targeting Imperial soldiers. After Thoma was injured by the group Bang went to the scene of the battle, where he found strange imaging devices in the grass. When it came time for him to be judged, he shot right through the image of the Cerberus and realized that he could take out the windmills contributing to the illusion. The Cerberus, replaced by the real, normal Saber Tigers. He fought two rounds of combat against them and with Thoma's help apprehended the three men behind the scheme. They were disgruntled scientists who'd felt that pilots stole all the glory on the battlefield while their technology did all of the heavy lifting.

The Death Stinger Awakening, Episode 57

Bang once more faced off against Raven and his Geno Breaker, only this time he had the Attack Boosters and was backed up by a unit of Gun Snipers with special armor-piercing shells. They broke the Breaker's E-Shield, allowing Bang to slice off one of the X-Breakers. As he circled around for another strike a blinding light hit the field. A particle cannon fired from somewhere far away. Bang managed to dodge the attack and survive, but Raven's Organoid was killed.

Hiltz's Forces, Episode 58

After the Death Stinger took to the skies, Hiltz sent a sizeable army to kill Bang. Though he fought side-by-side with Irvine, Thoma, and a large force of Republican Zoids, he realized that there was no way he could walk away from this battle. The Republic was looking for someone to man a Storm Sworder mission into space with the goal of taking down the Hammer Kaiser (and thereby the Death Stinger), but he gave his slot to Irvine and chose to stay and fight.

Rease, Episode 59

After fighting Hiltz's forces for so long Bang was exhausted, but still had to deal with Rease. Their battle dragged on, the already damaged Blade Liger struggling to keep up. Yet, out of the blue, Rease and her Psycho Geno Saurer decided to leave. Bang hobbled his way towards New Helic City, finding it already destroyed by the Death Stinger.

Wendeen Lake, Episode 60

The Republican Army called for all forces to withdraw to Wendeen Lake, the site of the Ultra Saurus, a massive Zoid being worked on as a joint project between the Empire and the Republic. Hiltz's forces discovered the Ultra before it could awaken, and Bang and Irvine joined the fight against the army of Helcats to protect the Ultra.

Sea Battle, Episode 61

Bang joined others in the Guardian Force in defending the Ultra Saurus from Sinkers sent by Hiltz.

Gravity Cannon Test, Episode 62

During the first test of the Gravity Cannon Bang was piloting a Silver Pteras. They knew they'd be discovered by Hiltz's forces as soon as the weapon was tested, so they were prepared. Sure enough, an army of Sinkers soon arrived. Bang helped to gun down many of the machines, but when a couple of torpedoes escaped Bang raced to catch them before they hit the Ultra. He managed to detonate the explosives a second before it could've resulted in catastrophic damage.

Return of the Delta Formation, Episode 63

With so few shells for the Gravity Cannon it was decided to bring back the Delta Formation, recycling it to make use of the energy shields on all three Zoids to establish a large triangular barrier. If they could trap the Death Stinger, they could kill it with the Gravity Cannon. They first tested this on a Gojulas, but during the live combat Hiltz managed to shatter the shield because they'd played too conservatively on energy. As a consequence, the Death Stinger managed to shoot down the second of the three gravity shells that'd been created. They had just one more shot at it. Bang got back up, urging Thoma and Irvine to try again and dedicate more power to the shields. This time, it held. The Gravity Cannon landed a direct hit on the Death Stinger.

Revival, Episode 64

After Ambient revived the Death Stinger it carved out the ground beneath the Ultra Saurus, creating a sink hole for the Zoid to fall into. With the main hangar bays underground, Bang and Irvine were asked to pursue the Death Stinger. They were told that it didn't yet have its shield, so even their conventional weapons would do damage. Between him, Irvine, and Thoma, they kept the Death Stinger pinned down. Fine's Gustav took a direct hit. Bang, furious, activated the Liger's shield and sliced the tail clean off the Death Stinger. Though he tried to rush to her side, a mysterious light covered her body and she disappeared in a cloud of particles.

Death Stinger Battle, Episode 65 ~ 66

Sieg seemed to know where Fine had gone and Bang didn't hesitate to go search for her. As they neared the Valley of the Rare Hertz they were swarmed by droves of Guysacks and Rev Raptors but kept running. Hiltz and the Death Stinger burst from the sand in front of them and wiped out the pursuing force, then challenged Bang. However, Bang was certain Fine still needed help. He asked Sieg to leave the battle and find Fine. In spite of the massive difference in size, and typically, power, Bang had no problem cutting through parts of the Death Stinger this time around. This surprised Hiltz so much that he called for Ambient, restoring the Death Stinger to perfect condition.

Their battle continued until well into the next day. Bang knew it was a lost cause to explain the bond between a pilot and Zoid to someone who saw them as mere tools of war. They fought until the Death Stinger started to glow gold. A response to the awakening of Zoid Eve. In seconds, the Death Stinger escaped underground. In that moment, Bang heard Fine's voice. He saw a vision of her and Sieg standing in the collapsing city of Eveopolis. He reasoned that she must be calling him, and raced towards the city.

Just as Bang reached Eveopolis he found Raven's Geno Breaker heavily damaged. Raven urged him to stop Prozen, but when he tried he was knocked back by the Death Stinger right as it resurfaced. He tried to fire at the Death Stinger's core as it ripped its way out of its body, fusing to the core of the Death Saurer, but his efforts dealt no damage.

Battling Against The Death Saurer, Episode 67

Bang continued fighting, even when the Death Saurer walked right through countless other Zoids. He was nearly impaled by the spear missiles only to be saved last second by Raven. Amused at his rival's actions, he carried on. Even so, there was nothing he could do, and while discussing the need to find the Death Saurer's weakness, Rease interrupted, claiming they could defeat it by destroying Zoid Eve. Bang knew this meant ending the lives of all Zoids, and refused. He continued the battle until the Death Saurer nearly absorbed the Blade Liger into its Zoid Core. A pulse from the awakening Zoid Eve send him and his Blade Liger flying.

After listening to Fine's impassioned speech about destroying the Zoid Eve, ending the life of all Zoids and Ancient Zoidians in order to save the planet, Bang begged her to reconsider. He swore to end Hiltz and the Death Saurer, and turned to Hermann, asking him to fire him and his Blade Liger out of the Gravity Cannon. Though this seemed crazy, they moved forward with the plan as a last ditch effort. As he moved into the cannon's barrel, Bang activated his E-Shield. As soon as they were fired from the cannon Hiltz countered with a particle beam, but the particle-neutralizing effects of the E-Shield and blades once again survived the onslaught. The Blade Liger crashed through the chest, destroying the Death Saurer's Zoid Core. Even though the Liger was heavily damaged Sieg fused back to the core (with Fine along for the ride) and the Blade Liger was able to escape Eveopolis as the entire city sank back beneath the sand.
