- Episode 48: The Black Lightning

Summary

The last battle left the Command Wolf mortally wounded, and as much as they've tried, all efforts to save the Zoid have failed. Its one hope is a state-of-the-art speed demon being actively developed by Dr. D, the Lightning Saix. After the Saix's combat data is destroyed during a high-speed crash in which the pilot passed out, the Zoid is unable to mobilize at a critical moment. The only chance of saving both the Command Wolf and the Lightning Saix is to transplant the memory bank of the Command Wolf into the body of the Lightning Saix.

- Notable Facts

  • After the battle with Raven's Geno Breaker, Irvine's Command Wolf sustained core damage, and was slowly dying.

  • The Lightning Saix was an ultra high speed Zoid developed for the Empire by Dr. D. It used research on Ancient Zoidian technology as a template, and was so fast that the Zoid actually had to be equipped with a restraint system due to the pilot's limitations.

  • The Lightning Saix combines its high speed with holographic technology to present the illusion that the Zoid has disappeared.

  • Every time that Irvine came back from piloting another Zoid, his Command Wolf would fight him on the controls a little bit. As a team they earned a heap of prize money together.

  • Louise and Rudolph were both heading to a summit conference when Louise was kidnapped.

  • The Lightning Saix's memory bank took three months to program the first time, but was destroyed when the test pilot passed out and the Saix charged headlong into the face of a cliff. With Rudolph under immediate threat, they decide to transplant the memory bank of the Command Wolf into the Lightning Saix. This would allow the Command Wolf to live on in the body of the Lightning Saix, saving both Zoids.

  • Bang is able to diffuse bombs.

  • At first the Lightning Saix was unable to accept the Command Wolf's combat data. It's implied that it only succeeded because of the Command Wolf's bond to Irvine, after which the green eyes of the Saix turned Orange, like the Wolf's canopy.
