- Runaway Berserker

ZAC 2100, July   |  Northern Europa   |  Red Rust (Red Desert) Eastern Region

In conclusion, that thing is not the "missing piece" that we pursued. It's something that you don't want to mess with, the complete body, which is missing pieces. We can't control that demon... Your Excellency, freeze the OS plan. Otherwise, the world shall surely perish.

(From the report of the Chief of the Empire's Engineering Department, Doctor F.)

The Imperial Special Forces set out to attack a large unit of the Republican Army in a narrow mountain region that lay in front of the desert.

With the support of the Demon Dragon "Geno Breaker", the Empire's Main Forces on the South Route were successfully able to withdraw. However, the struggle of the troops fleeing through the North Route continued.

The rear support troops fought until they were all annihilated. Still, they couldn't get rid of the Republic's pursuit unit. This was because many of the "Strongest Corps of the Republic" had joined the vanguard in pursuit of the unit on the North Route, and there were no points of escape in the north like the bridge that existed in the south route.

Like the Demon Dragon, the new unit of the Empire was sent to the battlefield without being able to be tested.
The Imperial Command ordered their Special Forces to rescue the North Route troops. The formation of the unit was a single super powerful sortie (consisting of roughly 30 combat Zoids) centered around the latest state-of-the-art machine, the Lightning Saix, as well as the Death Stinger and modified Geno Saurers. But no matter how elite they were, they couldn't fight against the thousands of pursuit units. So they chose to battle in a mountainous area with many Zoids, all at once. It was a strategy to destroy the Republican troops using smaller units and buy time for the North Route troops to escape, until further reinforcements could arrive.

When the Death Stinger lunged out of the ground, the Special Forces simultaneously attacked the Pursuit Unit from every side. The Republic Zoids were immediately enveloped in flames. However, the Pursuit Unit also contained an elite lineup, including the Shield Liger DCS. They immediately repositioned themselves and moved into a counterattack.

The fierce battle had begun. The Charged Particle Gun roared and the beam fired. The aim of both sides was accurate. Gradually, the pursuit units began to push. Finally, a single bullet of fate was released.

A bullet of fate. It was the bullet that the Shield Liger DCS had fired at the Death Stinger.

Something happened to the Death Stinger that was attacked. The eyes behind its armor shined suspiciously.

"Gyaaahhhhhhhh!"

The Imperial special force pilots heard a scream over their comms. A chilling, unearthly shriek. It was a transmission from the Death Stinger's cockpit.

"What's wrong? Come in, Death Stinger!"

The special force's commander shouted back from his Lightning Saix, but there was no response. Since being hit by the Shield Liger DCS's attack, the Death Stinger hadn't moved an inch. Had it stopped functioning? But he couldn't see any damage from outside.

"What happened? Answer me!"

He shouted again, but there was no response from the pilot.

"Damn it!"

The test Death Stinger attacked both army Zoids and Special Forces, and far exceeded its original specifications.
Amidst the fray, the Lightning Saix approached the Death Stinger. But for some reason, the Death Stinger turned its gun turret towards the Saix, which was supposed to be its ally.

—!?

With a flash, the sound of bombardment roared out. An intense shockwave grazed the Zoid. The Saix had managed to dodge this gunfire thanks to its astounding manoeuvrability and miraculous luck. But the Saix was the only lucky one. The Death Stinger swept down upon the surrounding Zoids. It had no enemies nor allies. It was attacking anything within reach.

— Did it go berserk?

The Imperial special force commander murmured in a daze.

He was well aware of the strength of OS-equipped Zoids' instincts. What's more, this was the 'True Organoid'. If the DCS's attack had acted as a trigger to awaken its self-defence instincts, and it had started to move under its own will...

The Death Stinger, equipped with an E-Shield, couldn't be damaged even by the Charged Particle Cannon. Was there any way to defeat this runaway warrior?
A modified Geno Saurer, the Proto Breaker, hit the Death Stinger with the Charged Particle Gun. But they didn't understand. The E-Shield absorbed everything. At about the same time, the Geno Trooper fired its four Laser Guns from behind them. Yet no damage had been inflicted upon its super heavy armor. On the contrary, they were caught, cut up, and shot down.

There was nothing they could do. Ten minutes later, the elite Zoids of both forces continued to be torn apart like toys, until the Death Stinger disappeared beneath the ground.

As for the results, the battle successfully ensured the escape of the Imperial Corps on the North Route. However, the Imperial Headquarters that had received the report didn't cheer, and simply froze at the terrible threat that they had created.

Only one Saix from the Imperial Special Forces survived. There was no choice for the Republican Army that had suffered a great deal of damage except to give up the chase.
