Notable Facts

  • Though Raven is a member of the Empire, he answers only to Prozen, placing him outside the hierarchy of the rest of the regularly-seen imperial soldiers.

  • Raven notes that he absolutely despises Zoids in the series, and this dislike of them didn't seem to come from a particular incident, as he disliked them even when he was a young child.

History

Childhood, Episode 49

When Raven was a child his parents were studying an Organoid capsule. Raven seemed to resent Zoids even then, but his father had promised that they'd all take a vacation as soon as their research was complete. Just after making this promise the capsule awakened. The Organoid, Ambient, killed Raven's parents and knocked Raven himself unconscious.

He was later found by Dan Freiheit's unit. At the time he wasn't talking much and didn't remember his own name. Given the circumstances Dan had intended to take Raven home with him and raise him alongside Bang, his son, but they were discovered by the Imperial Army before this could happen. Prozen wanted the unit's Organoid capsule. Halford activated it instead, setting the black Organoid (Shadow) free to prevent him from falling into enemy hands. Shortly after, Dan sacrificed his own life to save the unit.

Raven, upset by this event followed Prozen and held a gun to him. Prozen recognized that the safety was on and simply slapped Raven to the ground. He decided to take the boy home with them. He was trained in how to properly use firearms as well as how to pilot a Zoid. He quickly became one of Prozen's best soldiers, if not the best, and worked solely for Prozen, required to take orders from no one else. In this time he was allowed to take on whatever missions he wanted, wherever he wanted.

Five years after being brought to the Empire, Raven was given Shadow by Prozen under the simple condition that he tame the Organoid, which he seemed to do in no time at all.

First Appearance, Episode 12

Raven was introduced when his Saber Tiger was sent ahead of Marcus's unit to clear out sleeper Zoids, eliminating the risk of ambush during the sand storm. He single-handedly eliminated 30 Zoids during this fight, prompting the nearby Republican outpost to start strengthening their defenses. He was in town, traveling through a field when he ran into Bang and Fine being chased by soldiers who'd mistaken them for Raven, due to them also having an Organoid.

They followed Raven to a rock formation, but were soon discovered by the Republican soldiers. Raven lamented that now he'd simply have to destroy those Zoids, too. Bang was shocked to see him jump off the cliff, rising again on the head of a Saber Tiger. It tore through the Godos unit until Bang's Shield Liger got in the way. The resulting battle could've easily ended in Bang's death, but Marcus called Raven away from the field at the last second.

Battle of Kronos Fortress, Episode 13

The Empire planned to attack Kronos Fortress, and Raven was to be among them. Though he was confronted by Schwarz about their plans, he was the first to tell him that Prozen never had any intention of trying to get a ceasefire agreement from the Republic. He wanted a fight, to cause as much destruction as possible. While Raven intended to mobilize, he was interrupted by Bang challenging him to a rematch. He accepted, this time dealing serious damage to both the Shield Liger and Sieg, as well as Irvine's Command Wolf. By the time he returned to Kronos, the fortress had been detonated and there was nothing left.

The Command Wolf SM, Episode 14

Raven accepted a challenge from Irvine, who intended to win after his previous loss. While the Saber Tiger received significant damage from the spread missiles the Command Wolf was using, fusing Shadow restored the Zoid's will to fight. It ripped its own leg off and charged down the Command Wolf, but they used flash flares to escape.

Base Destruction, Episode 17 ~ 18

While the Republic was silenced by jamming snow, unable to communicate between locations, Raven and his Saber Tiger started targeting their bases. Just as he was leaving one he ran into Bang. They fought, but this time Bang was being advised by an experienced soldier, Rob Hermann. This ended in Raven's defeat, and the battle was further interrupted when Prozen's fleet began bombing the shoreline. Their battle would later continue on Mt. Ossa, and this time Raven pushed his Saber Tiger to the limit. It lunged into the Liger's shield, and trapped between the walls of generated energy it was torn apart. Raven and Shadow bailed at the last second.

A New Zoid, Episode 20 ~ 21

After being given the Geno Saurer, Raven took it out for a spin. He first encountered Brad's Gang and immediately defeated their Zoids. He then tracked down Rudolph, finding him with Bang and the others, and fired the particle cannon right through the middle of the group. He hadn't anticipated Rosso and Viola holding him back, however. They withstood his Geno Saurer's shocks until the Kong was destroyed.

Death of the Shield Liger, Episode 22 ~ 23

Raven had Shadow kidnap Rudolph, drawing Bang into a fight. This time he faced the Shield Liger head on. Though his opponent tried to use the shield to clear the distance, the Geno Saurer's particle cannon fired right through it and pierced the Shield Liger's Zoid Core, killing it almost instantly. With no further use of Rudolph he turned him over to Metternich's group.

Zoid Core Collection, Episode ~ 26 ~

Raven's Geno Saurer wasn't a simple gift, it was given to him to fulfill certain obligations. Under Prozen's command Raven began attacking Republican Army bases. After he'd killed all Zoids at the base their cores were then collected by a special extraction team and taken back to be fed into the Death Saurer's incubation chamber.

Rematch With Bang, Episode 32 ~ 33

Raven was informed that Bang had survived their previous battle by Prozen, and that the boy was heading for Guygalos. Prozen ordered Raven to come and finish the job. Raven confronted Bang, insisting that he hand over Fine. When he refused, trying to bypass the battle only to be intercepted by Red Horns, Raven destroyed the allied Zoids, cutting off Bang's escape in the process. His ruthless battle style held the advantage until the heavily damaged Blade Liger, reinvigorated by Bang's determination to win began to move even faster than before. He turned to follow its movements with the particle cannon and snapped the Geno Saurer's ankles in the process. Even though his Zoid could no longer walk, he used the cable claws to snare the Blade Liger and reel it into point-blank range. He had no way of knowing that the Blade Liger's blades emitted ions that helped neutralize charged particles, and when the Blade Liger pushed its way through the attack, its blade punctured the particle cannon, causing it to backfire into the Geno Saurer's body. The Zoid was destroyed in seconds.

Guardian Force

Return, Episode 42

After his earlier defeat Raven wandered the deserts, nearly catatonic. In the previous battle he'd suffered a bad wound to his right hand which left a large scar. How he survived isn't fully known. Eventually he was picked up by a Gustav pilot who at least offered him some water. He had no idea who Raven was, or that he'd been destroying military bases by stealing their own Zoids and attacking. They parted ways when Shadow commandeered a passing Redler, and used it to attack another base. There, Raven stole a Dark Horn. He once more ran into Bang, and though he was defeated again he seemed to recognize the Liger. He fired all of the Dark Horn's ammunition, proving that it was out of attack options, then opened the cockpit. Bang reflected this action. Upon seeing the face of his fated rival, he snapped out of this fugue state and escaped with Shadow.

New Geno Saurer, Episode 43

After coming into contact with Hiltz and Rease (off-screen), Raven acquired a new Geno Saurer, this time with a red frame instead of purple. His first contact was Thoma. Raven asked him where Bang was, and when Thoma refused to cooperate, Raven fired the particle cannon. It was met with the Dibison's Megalo Max, and though the attacks seemed equal, the coils on the Dibison overheated and it took a hit from the particle cannon. Raven left Thoma unconscious and bleeding in the desert, unconcerned about his survival.

Rematch, Episode 44

Hungry for revenge, Raven took on the Liger and Command Wolf at the same time, and though he struggled to keep up with the two Zoids at once, he eventually snared the Command Wolf. After reeling it in and stomping it into a system freeze, he was free to handle the Blade Liger. At first, it met his particle cannon head on and cut off the Geno Saurer's arm. Realizing that the shield was stronger now, he added the Pulse Lasers to the assault. This time, the shield didn't hold. With Bang's Liger immobilized, Raven intended to kill him with a point-blank particle beam. His attack was intercepted by Moonbay's Gustav. Though the particle beam melted almost all the way through its shell, it stopped there.

Yet, something unexpected happened. Shadow took over the controls, forcing Raven's Geno Saurer to flee the battle. They didn't stop until they found a remote canyon. Shadow dropped Raven off outside of his Zoid then fused to the core, encasing it in an evolutionary cocoon. Raven immediately recognized the potential and sat by, waiting for the awakening of his new Zoid.

The Geno Breaker, Episode 47

While waiting for his Zoid to evolve Raven was arrested and questioned about where he got his Zoid. He refused to cooperate and was imprisoned. They decided to move him to a different facility via Redler, but when the Geno Saurer's evolution was about to complete, Raven kicked the console in, causing the Redler to crash. He rejoined with the now-awakened Geno Breaker and immediately confronted the Guardian Force. Irvine, who'd run ahead underestimated the Geno Breaker's speed, taking fatal damage from the blades. The Blade Liger was knocked down, but before it could be hit with a particle beam, Karl Schwarz's unit tried to engage, causing Raven to redirect his fire. Satisfied, he left the field.

The Dark Kaiser, Episode 49

When Rease showed up in front of Raven with a Geno Saurer of her own, she tried to warn him that the Guardian Force was developing a special technique to defeat the Geno Breaker. He scoffed at her help and even tried to destroy her new Zoid, but wasn't quick enough. The exertion of this attempt forced Shadow to defuse from the Geno Breaker. Rease offered to help once again by offering Shadow some Zoid Magnite, but Raven declared he'd rather see his Organoid fade away. Rease changed gears, forcing Raven to face her illusions, illusions of his dark childhood. When he awoke, he was in an underground cavern. Hiltz announced that he was in the presence of the Dark Kaiser. Raven recognized him immediately as Prozen, or at least what was left of him. The Dark Kaiser insisted that Raven could never escape from him, and though Raven refused at first, he ended up back under Prozen's control.

The Delta Formation, Episode 50

Raven destroyed the Lightning Saix research base, ensuring their development plans would be slowed down. He then proceeded to hunt down Bang. This time, the Republic tried to use the Delta Formation to encircle his Geno Breaker. Though they intended to destroy the foot locks and disable the particle cannon, Raven showed that the Breaker could fire from the air. He wiped out the entire Gojulas unit. When the Dibison and Lightning Saix were disabled, his attention was drawn to Bang, who took up his battle position at the edge of the cliff. He attempted to charge the Geno Breaker with the energy shield, but this time he couldn't reach his target. Raven increased the particle cannon's power and overwhelmed the shield, throwing Bang over the cliff.

The Loss of Shadow, Episode 57

Raven, inferred to be working under the orders of the Dark Kaiser, tracked down Bang and challenged him to another battle. This time Bang was accompanied by Gun Snipers, which pierced the Breaker's shield. This allowed Bang and Irvine to get in close. He was able to keep up with their high-speed Zoids, for the most part, until Bang sliced off one of the X-Breakers. By then Shadow's energy was already beginning to run out. Raven pushed to finish the fight as fast as possible but it was interrupted by a massive particle beam carving its way across the battlefield. Shadow expended all of his energy to pull Raven and the Geno Breaker out of the way. The already-exhausted Organoid defused right after, and as Raven ran up to check on him, Shadow turned to stone. He'd died as a result of the exhaustion. Raven clung to the statue of his Organoid and cried out for him, realizing just how much Shadow had meant.

Avenging Shadow, Episode 58 ~ 59

After Shadow's death Raven began traveling, carrying the Organoid's stone body with him. He returned to his childhood home, yet as he sat there contemplating his past with Shadow the Organoid suddenly disappeared in a ball of light. He turned his attention to Hiltz, who he blamed for Shadow's death. He found him in New Helic City in the middle of his battle, but the Geno Breaker failed to do any damage. Hiltz doubted that he could so much as use the CPG or set up a shield without Shadow, and soon the Breaker was downed. Hiltz responded to Raven's betrayal by activating the particle cannon. Rease tried to intervene, only to realize how little she meant to her fellow Zoidian when he fired the cannon anyway.

New Direction, Episode 62

After the incident in New Helic City, Raven and Rease managed to survive. Raven took them to an abandoned building to rest, and once Rease woke up he filled her in on what'd happened. The Psycho Geno Saurer had been lost, but Specular survived, along with the Geno Breaker. At sunset, Rease started to leave. She told Raven that she was going to Zoid Eve, and invited him to come along, as Shadow was probably there as well.

The Dark Kaiser, Episode 64

Raven followed Rease to the cavern of the Dark Kaiser, allegedly the path to Zoid Eve. They believed Shadow would be there, and they were right, but when the Dark Kaiser appeared he mocked them both. He invited Raven to try to take Shadow, only for the Organoid to attack Raven as soon as it'd awakened. The Dark Kaiser explained that Shadow had been revived as his loyal servant, and no longer had any memories of Raven. He wasn't discouraged, though, and continued to try to appeal to Shadow, hoping his friend would hear him. Unfortunately, this devolved into a battle between Shadow and Specular, who stood to defend the two pilots. Enraged, Raven tried to attack the Dark Kaiser only to be zapped by some sort of energy field and flung backwards.

Retaming Shadow, Episode 65

With Shadow simply not backing down from the aggression, Raven lamented that maybe they were just intended to meet their end that way. He forgave Shadow for the fact that he would eventually kill him, expressing that he was just happy that Shadow was still alive. This seemed to reach the Organoid, who turned around to face the Dark Kaiser. He was instantly flung back and knocked unconscious by the pulse shield. When Zoid Eve awoke and the cavern started to collapse the Organoids woke their masters, flying them to safety.

Fight In Eveopolis, Episode 66

Raven backed up Rease when she tried to keep the Dark Kaiser away from the body of the ultimate Death Saurer, which he intended to fuse with. Raven tried to attack him outright, only to be shot down by a Geno Saurer. It was joined by two others, putting his Breaker in a precarious situation. He called for Shadow for immediate backup and was able to hold his own for a time, but when he deflected a shot with the Free-Round Shields it struck the Zoid Eve console area, awakening the Zoid Eve. He finally found his footing in the battle, jetting forward to take off one Geno's head with the X-Breakers. He even expressed his intent to come after Prozen as soon as he was finished with the other two.

As the battle continued, he lost the left Free Round Shield to a particle beam. He used the opportunity to close the distance, impaling the second Geno Saurer's particle cannon with the forehead blade. His Geno Breaker literally ripped off the head of the third Geno Saurer with its teeth, right before collapsing. Shadow was forced to defuse. As Bang pulled up he urged him to try to stop the Dark Kaiser.

Battle Against The Death Saurer, Episode 67

When Bang was nearly impaled by the Death Saurer's spread missiles, Raven obliterated them. He insisted that he would be the only one to kill Bang, and joined the fight against Hiltz. He tried using an airborne particle blast and was snatched out of the air, thrown into a building. After a rough crash landing Raven observed that the Death Saurer's armor had become significantly stronger. He continued fighting until the Death Saurer tried to absorb both him and Bang into the Zoid Core. A pulse from the awakening Zoid Eve flung them back just in time.

In a strange turn of events Bang came up with a plan to fire the Blade Liger out of the Gravity Cannon. Raven took up the fight while he moved into position. At first, his particle cannon simply grazed off of an energy shield. However, when Shadow fused back to the Geno Breaker's core, restoring its power he was finally able to break through. This action was likely what allowed Bang's Blade Liger to puncture the armor of the Death Saurer. Even so, his Geno Breaker was spent. It fell from the rooftops, and Rease rushed to help Raven out of the cockpit. They looked up just in time to see the Blade Liger streaking across the sky, and both escaped Eveopolis with their Zoids and Organoids before it could disappear beneath the sands.
