Notable Facts

  • Rease's sex was originally intended to be more ambiguous. Her voice in the original Japanese version isn't quite as feminine as the dub and there's a deleted scene in Episode 41 where Fine tries to push her back, only to realize upon doing so that she's a woman (because she could feel that she had breasts.)

Ancient Zoidian Abilities

  • False Thoughts: Rease has the ability to project false thoughts and fears into people's mind, intended as a psychological game to disrupt their actions in battle. There are multiple instances in which Bang was trying to take aim to fire at a target near Fine to free her, where Rease made him see images of his attack missing and killing Fine instead. She also projected thoughts into his mind about hoping that Zoid Eve would never be discovered.

  • Mind Control: Rease works closely with Specula and ancient insect Zoids to take control of people's minds. When the insects land on them they fall into a trance-like state. This ability works on both people and Zoids, allowing Rease to use them in battle on her behalf, even if they'd never fight those battles on her own. This ability is depicted as a total control, where the pilot is unaware of anything going on outside, and a lesser control, where the person is easily influenced but still able to speak and communicate. During this state she continues to subject them to her mental torment. This ability technically seems to come mostly from Specular, and may not be Rease's own, but since it's something she constantly uses, it was worth including here. Dr. D theorized that while this could be an ability, it's also possible that it's Ancient Zoidian technology.

  • Projection: Rease is able to project herself, either images of herself or merely her voice over distance. For example, she projected an image of herself with her captive, Fine, to Bang Freiheit to shown him that she had a prisoner. These projections can also fade in and out of existence at will, creating the illusion of teleportation.

  • Psychic Connection: Like Fine, Rease seems vaguely aware of other individuals she's met. In one case, she detected that Hiltz and his Death Stinger had been hit by the Gravity Cannon.

Items

 Psycho Wave Amplification Device

When Specular's using her psycho waves to control people, Rease can speak through a radio attached to Specular's forehead via a cable to give orders to their victims. If this cord is damaged, however, it can cause Specular to suffer an electrical shock. This device also isn't used every time she's using the mind control.

 Mini Sworders

These are the ancient insects used by Rease, said to be ancient ancestors of the Double Sworder. Though still described as Zoids and indeed being fully mechanical, they're the size of normal bugs.

History

Awakening, Episode 51

Rease awoke as a little girl, discovered by a boy named Nichalo. He brought her back to the village of Nordens, but there was no indication that she had Specular with her. Eventually, a Republican archeological survey team attacked the village, demanding that they hand over Rease. Most of the villagers wanted to comply. The only one who objected was Nichalo. He was shot and killed for his defiance. It's unclear what happened in the interim between this and Rease growing up, but we know that the records of Nordens' dark history were later sealed by Prozen.

First Appearance, Episode 37

When Rease first appeared it was in a town where an entire Republic unit had gone missing. One of the Godos attacked Fine, and when Bang tried to fire on the Zoid to free her from its grasp he saw visions of missing and killing her. When he later entered the town, Rease attacked him in the church, but seemed to pass out. Bang went to help the villagers while Sieg got distracted. In their absence, Rease kidnapped Fine, planting illusions in her mind that she'd bring misfortune to everyone around her. She insisted that they were of a doomed race, that as long as Fine lived the wars would not end, and Bang would inevitably die trying to protect her. She even pressed the malice, insisting Bang didn't want her around.

After she'd gained influence over Fine's mind, she walked her to the top of the church and tied her near one of the bells, which were used to amplify Specular's psychic waves. She then boarded a Double Sworder, which Specular fused to, maximizing its size and potential. Using the mind control she still held over the Republic's Zoids, she mobilized the Godos forces against Bang Freiheit and his Blade Liger. She lost that control after he shot the bell in the tower, in spite of her planting more illusions of him accidentally killing Fine. Her Zoid was finally cut down, but she didn't seem particularly fussed to have lost, regarding the interaction as them simply 'getting to know each other.'

The Holciard Weapons Plant, Episode 41

Rease's next appearance was at the Holciard Weapons Plant, intending to overload its reactor. She took control of the employees, as well as Karl Schwarz's unit when they came to investigate. She then closed the cooling vents of the reactor. This attracted the attention of both armies, who knew the blast would be devastating. They dispatched the Guardian Force, with Bang and Thoma traveling two different routes to the reactor. Specular brought Fine to Rease, where Rease explained that her only motivation was because to hate people was an unfortunate part of human nature. She stroked Fine's face, expressing that she thought she, as an Ancient Zoidian would understand that. Fine responded by biting her, and after striking Fine in anger, Rease made her stay and watch as she tried to kill her friends.

Rease's intention was to evacuate the building with Fine, leaving everyone else to die. She used her control over Karl Schwarz to have him attack his younger brother, Thoma. She even went so far as to project an image of herself and Fine to Bang, as well as project her voice to Thoma with the intention of having them choose between saving Fine and stopping the reactor. Fine refused Rease's plan. She snatched the radio that Rease was using to give orders to her mind-control subjects and ripped the cord, causing an electrical shock to hit Specular. During this brief lapse in Specular's psycho waves, Karl woke up, but still couldn't control his Zoid. Rease had fully expected them to fail their mission. Yet, Thoma successfully disabled the Iron Kong and Sieg opened the reactor valve while Bang redirected to rescue Fine. Her interactions with Fine devolved into violence and Specular almost attacked their captive only for Bang to blast through the wall. With him there, Rease merely left, escaping on her Double Sworder with Specular.

Testing Raven, Episode 45

Rease dropped in to visit Raven as he awaited the evolution of the Geno Saurer. She mocked his threats and got closer to him, but when he lashed out, she quickly sprung away, retreating on her Organoid. During the altercation she'd sliced Raven's shirt with a knife, and claimed that his quick reflexes were the first time she'd felt fear.

Lemuria Island, Episode 46

Rease came to Lemuria Island with Hiltz, who was looking for something in the underwater ruins. She was surprised to see Fine there as well, and decided to stalk her, reminding her once again that as part of the cursed Ancient Zoidian race that she'd only bring misfortune to Bang. Her illusions forced Fine to see first hand how Bang could be shot and killed trying to protect her. When Fine had finally given up fighting the illusion, Rease mocked her, insisting her suffering was only just beginning. Yet, Fine insisted that Rease was truly the one suffering, not her.

Hearing Bang and Dr. D drawing near, Rease left. Her Double Sworder, controlled by Specular, sprung from the trees and drew Bang out onto a platform in the ocean. Though he shot down the Double Sworder, Rease, in the water, used a Hammer Head to bomb the pathway back to shore. The Blade Liger was dropped into the ocean, where Rease continued to attack and bully it, pushing it further and further towards the underwater whirlpools. She fully expected him to die here, and even tried to take out Fine and Dr. D's Sinker while she waited.

Bang decided to fight on. He used the force of the whirlpool to sling shot the Blade Liger at the Hammer Head, successfully cutting it down. As Rease was defeated, she saw the tragic images of her own past. With her Zoid now destroyed, she sank into the waves. Bang dove back in to save her, and tried to demand answers, only for Rease to be taken by Specular. They dove back into the water, seemingly escaping on Hiltz's Whale King.

Raven, Episode 49

In the process of spying on the Guardian Force Rease realized that they were developing a plan to defeat the Geno Breaker. She tried to warn Raven, showing him projections of the simulated battle with the help of her new Psycho Geno Saurer. His reaction wasn't what she'd expected; blasting away the illusions and then trying to destroy her and her Zoid. She easily dodged the attack, only to find that Raven had wasted all of Shadow's energy on the frivolous display. With the Organoid now on the ground and unconscious, Rease offered Raven some Zoid Magnite, only to have her help rejected yet again.

With Raven uncooperative, Rease decided to instead swarm him with her insects, forcing him to deal with her illusions. Images of his past, the death of his parents, his introduction to Dan Freiheit's unit, and his later life in the Empire. By the time Raven awoke, he was in a dark cavern with Hiltz and Rease, who introduced him to the Dark Kaiser: Prozen's body, seemingly still alive but absorbed into the core of the defeated Death Saurer from Guygalos.

Implications, Episode 50

While watching Raven fight against Bang's Blade Liger, Rease took notice that the Geno Breaker had evolved into a red color scheme. She implied that this shouldn't be the case, since Geno Saurers are typically purple. She even teased Ambient about it, implying that Ambient tampered with Raven's Geno Saurer.

An Old Friend, Episode 51

Raven expressed that he couldn't care less if Bang lived or died, so Rease took it upon herself to cause problems for the hero. She got into Bang's head, causing him to dream that Fine had awakened to bring an end to everything. Then she targeted Seepers, a particularly unpleasant soldier of the Empire. He'd almost written off searching for Bang, as he'd been ordered to do, until Rease convinced him that Bang would find out he'd been extorting the villagers. She insisted Bang was a spy, and that Seepers' only recourse was to kill him. So, he tried.

When this plan failed, Rease once again took matters into her own hands. She waited until Bang was reunited with his friends then attempted to wipe them all out with her Psycho Geno Saurer. At the last second, an apparition of Nichalo and his white Helcat, Tirol, appeared before her. They took the shot straight to the chest, where Nichalo had been shot, and vanished into a flash of light. Rease was stricken by this strange occurrence, and left the area, not bothering to follow up with another attack.

Betrayal, Episode 59

Bang was barely successful in defeating Hiltz's forces before Rease arrived in her Psycho Geno Saurer. Yet, throughout the battle she seemed strangely disenfranchised by Hiltz's actions and motivations. She had no eagerness to fight, her usual spiteful demeanor now silent. Just as she had the opportunity to kill Bang she instead turned around and sped towards New Helic City, where Hiltz was fighting a fierce battle against the two armies. She arrived just in time to see him threatening to kill Raven, and when she asked if Hiltz no longer needed her, either, he simply mocked her and fired the particle cannon anyway, fully intending to kill her and Raven both.

New Direction, Episode 62

Raven and Rease managed to survive the incident in New Helic City. Raven took them to an abandoned building to rest, and once Rease woke up he filled her in on what'd happened. The Psycho Geno Saurer had been lost, but Specular survived, along with the Geno Breaker. She felt an immediate flash of rage towards Hiltz for having betrayed her so easily. At sunset, she started to leave. She told Raven that she was going to Zoid Eve, and invited him to come along, as Shadow was probably there as well.

The Dark Kaiser, Episode 64

On the path to Zoid Eve, which happened to lead through the cavern where the Dark Kaiser stayed, Rease was surprised to find he wasn't there. He appeared out of nowhere, mocking the two for failing to see that they'd only ever been pawns, just like Hiltz. Nevertheless, Rease was correct. Shadow was there in the cavern with them, inside an incubation chamber, being revived. The Dark Kaiser invited Raven to take his Organoid back, but left out the part where he'd revived Shadow to be his own loyal servant. When the Organoid attacked Raven, Rease called for Specular's help. The two Organoids scrapped, Shadow seemingly unaware of who any of them were.

Escape, Episode 65

Rease and Specular were knocked unconscious until the cavern began to collapse. By then Shadow had been retamed by Raven, and he and Specular woke their unconscious masters and flew them out of the cavern, to Eveopolis.

Interference, Episode 66

In Eveopolis, Rease and Specular were the first to try to stand between the Dark Kaiser and the body of the Ultimate Death Saurer, which he fully intended to fuse with. Though he threatened to make them sorry, Rease balked, claiming she wasn't afraid of his threats. Even so, she was distracted by Raven suddenly being attacked by a Geno Saurer. She wasn't able to provide any real help against it, however. Rease agonized over the battle after the awakening of the Zoid Eve. She claimed that it couldn't be stopped until it had completed its task, whatever that may be. With the world seemingly coming to an end she couldn't understand why Raven continued to fight so meaninglessly. She was brought to tears, not wanting to see him die.

The Final Battle, Episode 67

Though Rease couldn't partake in the battle she overheard their need to find a weakness in the Death Saurer. She made contact with Bang and Raven (in spite of not being in a Zoid at the time-) and explained that they could defeat the Death Saurer by destroying the Zoid Eve. When Bang argued that this would kill all Zoids on the planet, Rease argued that it was better they die than all life on Planet Zi. When even Raven asked if she would consider that a victory, she was shocked. She recognized a change in Raven, seeing the absence of his past cruelty. When the Geno Breaker used all of its power, and seemingly what was left of Shadow's, given its inability to stand, Rease saw it topple off of the rooftops. She rushed to help Raven out of the cockpit. They looked up just in time to see the Blade Liger streaking across the sky, and both escaped Eveopolis with the Geno Breaker and the Organoids before it could disappear beneath the sands.
