The Medarot twitter posted quite a bit of content for their Zoids collaboration. This included concept art for the Command Wolf Irvine, the Geno Saurer, the Shield Liger, and the Blade Liger. (Though not official, former webcomic artist Tanimeso posted their idea for a Konig Wolf version~). They also showed off the character costumes, additional Zoids, and some cut scenes from the game.
After the previous Zoids Wild Zero crossover, Medarot is holding another collaboration with Zoids! The game will feature new characters based on the Blade Liger, Command Wolf Irvine, Shield Liger, Geno Saurer, and Death Saurer. There are also character costumes featuring Van and Raven costumes.
Throughout the NJR era, artist Tanimeso was in charge of a wide variety of Zoids art visuals. With the announcement of the Chogokin CAS they posted a Twitter thread showing off some of their art in beautiful digital quality, including the Liger Zero CAS girls, box art, character art, and game art for the old Zoids Dash game (cute and obnoxious platformer fun, highly recommend if you're into platformers), sketches, and more.
The second testing phase for the Zoids Wild Arena app recently concluded, though the team has expressed interest in holding more tests, with Polygon Gaming evidently planning to hold multiple gaming sessions.
So, what changed in this play test?
A slew of new cards were added to the game, which introduced additional gameplay styles. For example, the ability for cards to replicate themselves under certain conditions, and the introduction of Corrupted machines, which have different gameplay effects and can be summoned to the battlefield under certain conditions. This could be used to clog your enemies' field, preventing them from summoning more powerful Zoids while ensuring that the Zoids on their field either damaged the Commander, the other Zoids, or at the very least, weren't some insane rex running around. The game also provided roughly 20 cards per day, compared to the previous 25.
The game balance felt better overall; it wasn't quite as hard to catch up from a short bad luck streak as it was in the first play test. However, some of the new options also felt quite overpowered (such as replicating Zoids being able to use status effects from tactics cards.) It's still lovely to see the BCH variants getting some new life, and the Official Website has been updated with a card viewer that lets you view, so far as I've noticed, every card currently released in-game!
Medabots S, a mobile game for the Medabots series, is collaborating with Takara Tomy to bring two Zoids Wild Zero inspired medabot skins to the game, Beast Liger, Genospino, Rising Liger, Fangtiger (themed after the Aldridge version), Fire Genospino, and Sniptera. The collab also includes character artwork of Medabots characters wearing Zoids Wild ZERO inspired outfits.
In a rather unexpected turn of events, korean gaming company ACT Games will be launching an NFT-based Zoids Wild project. Western fans are quite adverse to anything block chain adjascent, and with the game relying heavily on cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, obviously, reviews have been less than positive. For now, we'll just cover what we know about the game itself.
Twitter account ZoidsWild (Wait, this name was never claimed before now?) serves as the game's official account, and they have a gorgeous promo video as their top post. This is the same style of video used for the Zoids Wild Infinity Blast opening, and it's well worth a watch, even if you're not into the game concept.
Fans were apprehensive about the game's website in its earlier iteration, which featured mostly reused assets, such as loading screens from Infinity Blast falsely rebranded as "Concept Art" (it is not concept art for this game at all) as well as reused models and assets from the switch games. This shady opening didn't do the developers any favors, but it seems things are now moving along in full swing. The site also featured profiles for some of the associated cards, with animated Zoid images and basic stats. The nice part about this is that, while it's still reused data (mostly the existing profiles), it's nice to see them in English.
The game was shown off at Licensing Japan, a large game licensing event, where various promotions were exhibited. The Teaser Clip confirmed that further asset reuse extended to the variations from Battle Card Hunter, such as the Spideath Dusk. While this is also somewhat controversial, it'll be interesting to see some of those BCH variants without lighting effects obscuring their true colors.
We received an incredibly generous contribution from fellow Zoids Fan Kuzann, who provided us with a huge number of cards for our Zoids Coliseum section! As such, we've rolled out a massive update to the card scans. Almost every volume has had new cards added, including the ever-elusive second series.
Zoids Battle Card Hunter has announced that it'll be running an "All Star Battle" campaign. This campaign begins on April 1st, and will rerelease over 50 Wild Rare cards from the earlier sets! Unfortunately, this will be the final update for Zoids Wild Battle Card Hunter. The game is set to be discontinued starting in May. This is a shame, as the game had many cool variations, attack styles, and has even been running its own story. Its been an amazing ride, and the game ran for quite a long time. A huge shoutout to the creative individuals who worked on it!
Zoids Wild Infinity Coliseum continues to pit people's unique Zoids creations against one another in battles to win unique prizes! Episode 13 discusses Senki Episode 3 and the ongoing MoFA art exhibit. Episode 14 discusses the My Zoids Contest 2021. Episode 15 gets into the holiday spirit while discussing the upcoming Burning Liger Vs. Xenorex competition mentioned above.
The BCH site has updated with their 5th bulletin of the second expansion! There are so many beautiful cards in here, including a few brand new color schemes, so check it out! Clean digital images have also been posted for the Liger The Arthur and Zero Grizis.
Zoids Wild Infinity Blast is just about to release (on November 26th) and some places are even charging for the item already! As we hit release week it may be worth keeping an eye out for stores stocking small stocks of the Rising Liger set. Although all are sold out currently, within the last week BicCamera JP, Toys R Us JP, and HLJ all got a small lot of sets. They sell out quick, so check around often!
- Zoids Wild Infinity Coloseum!
There've been several Infinity Coliseum, an event where viewers share ZiNA codes of customs they've designed in the game, and the hosts use them in tournament-style combat! Episode 6 was particularly interesting. After the battles, Perfect Human Katayama was invited to feature some of the Zoids model kits along with Dr. T, a popular figure from CoroCoro in the early 2000s. The panel also had a special guest, Mitsutoshi Tokuyama, who has played an active designing role in the Zoids Wild series and been a prominent figure of the franchise for decades. In this panel he shows off special, never-before-seen concept art (in the style of the concept art books). You can see this around the 29 minute mark. Chances are, some of these will be seen at the exhibit as well!
Episode 7 showed off the old Tomy motorized Death Stinger. Episode 8 was also Death Stinger focused.
Episode 9 took a brief look at the Quest menu, which includes Quest, Continuous Battle, and Training. The Quest menu shows a continuous progression, starting at Chapter 1, and features numerous pieces of concept art in the style of the Concept Art Books. It also reveals a currency system (Zeny). There are various quest menus including weapons and junk. The battlefields are designed to look like you're actually out in the field, which is a nice visual design. Like the former game, you can retry the battle if you aren't satisfied with the results.
Episode 10 shows off the multi-Zoid battles. This is comparable to King of Blast, where you fight 10 Raptors that constantly respawn. In Infinity Blast, it seems you can take on multiple Zoids at once! This mission type shows up to 4 on the field at once, with a total count of 20 in each round.
