- Zoids Original 01 - Mirage Fox

Mirage Fox is the very first kit released in the Zoids Original design. This series focuses on rereleasing the old motorized kits -- the ones that we knew from the start. Each "Original" kit is cast in brand new colors with equipment not seen before, as well as all of the original parts to make the default Zoid.

In the case of Mirage Fox the Zoid comes with brand new upper leg armor, a new head design (which uses the original ears), and a new weapon that can be installed to any standard size peg. The armor is cast in an off-white that has a bluish tone and pale gold. Eyes are bright pink/purple and the pilot is a very pale lavender color.

Story-wise, Mirage Fox has two primary variations: Foxy, which uses the wing blades, and Lukexy, which uses the original Laser Vulcan but still has the new shoulder armor and head. Snow Fox is a third variation used later by the military, which has different (the old) armor and the Laser Vulcan.

Because most of this Zoid is cast in white the light armor scars aren't visible. The grey plastics and the painted parts scar horribly, unfortunately. The original Fox head still has an issue with the canopy not closing all the way. Removing the pilot or shaving down the cockpit interior can help fix this, but neither are a desirable option.

Mirage Fox [Fuselage Explanation]
The equipment and such mentioned in the above figure is what specialists know by analyzing combat recorders which were left behind in Imperial military units they fought. The machine was of an unknown affiliation, but according to authorized personnel they've already armed for them since their discovery; they presumed it introduced new technology that wasn't in the Zoids up until then, so they thought that the fuselage was built by an organization that had the development power and funds, like the army or something similar. There's an A-type that uses the super high frequency vibration blades, "Wing Blades", and a B-type that uses a small-caliber high penetration "Penetrating Laser Vulcan". The theory is that the Shadow Fox released in the subsequent Dark Great War was built referencing the acquisition data of this fuselage and such; there's a theory it was based off the Mirage Fox that was developed and mass produced because of a rumor that 2 pilots who rode them were part of a special mission for the Republic army.

Shadow Fox (Cold Area Specifications) Fuselage Explanation
A modified Shadow Fox released in the Dark Great War. Although it's not the official name for this fuselage, soldiers have nicknamed it "Snow Fox". The fuselage of the Shadow Fox itself used as a base is highly adapted to be efficient in cold environments; furthermore, it's remodeled to be suited for use in extremely cold regions.

Zoids Story
In the remaining official records of the Mirage Fox there's only an incident in the closing years of the Central Continent War where siblings called Kai and Tys (it's unknown if they are truly older brother and younger sister) controlled them and defeated a company of Imperial troops in battle, protecting a small village. The existence of the two previously mentioned pilots is also wrapped in a mystery, but Kai had extremely high intelligence, Tys had superhuman hearing, and it's said that both were more physically able than the average person. There's also a theory that they're "syntonically raised type pilots", raised with the pair of Zoids from the start, but it's just conjecture. Moreover, there's rumors that they were part of a special mission for the Republic army after that, but this information isn't certain, either. In the official information that the 2 named pilots said about the fuselage called the "Mirage Fox", their affiliation, fuselage, and both pilots are unknown.

- Motorized Features

Motor Type: Wind Up (No batteries required)
Mirage Fox is a simple wind up toy. Motorized features only include moving the legs but the Zoid itself is really fast for a wind up and definitely out races the Geno Ritter. There are no additional moving parts.

Unlike most wind ups the Shadow Fox > Mirage Fox line does not have a bar sticking out of the side. Instead it has a socket just behind the right front leg. The net gun missile in the tail can be removed and used as a crank to wind the toy up, and can be replaced back in the tail afterwards.

- Gimmicks

Cockpit:
Mirage Fox has a remodeled head with silver painted sensors in the cheeks. Overall the head is rounder in shop and the cockpit has a differently shaped engraving. The canopy flips open at the back and the control console swings upwards like the original Zoid.

Ears:
Both ears are attached to pegs that go into the side of the head. This allows a small range of motion for them to swing backwards.

Jaws:
The lower jaw flips open. It is worth noting that the upper teeth are actually thinner and sharper than the standard Shadow Fox.

Head and Neck:
Shadow Fox's head is on a hinge joint, allowing it to rotate up and down at the head and also at the base of the neck. The chest armor limits the range of motion but it still looks very nice.

Tail:
Shadow Fox's tail is on a hinge joint for rotation, but 'locks' into place in 3 different positions. The bottom of the tail opens up to show a silver missile (the electro-magnetic net gun). The missile inside of the tail is removable and is also the key used for winding up the kit. This means Mirage Fox has no clunky wind up sticking out of the side.

Wing Blades:
Mirage Fox's brand new weapon is the Wing Blade. This is a 3-piece weapon consisting of the top white panel and the two individual blades. It has the same range of motion as the Laser Vulcan, but can be equipped in more places. It can be lifted up and down in two different sections and the two part can rotate in a circle. The pegs on the side of the tail mean that it can be stationed there, above the tail. This lets you equip two of the weapon. You can also remove the gold blades from the unit and place them on the shoulder panels by removing the grey circle parts.

Laser Vulcan Gun:
Like the Wing Blades it attaches to the back, and has two points of up-down movement and a 360 rotational peg. This weapon is used for the Lukexy and Snow Fox variants.
