An attack on a defenseless town has awakened the motivation of the Three Guards; three Zaber Fang pilots said to be the best three former pilots the Empire had ever offered. They have not only set out to destroy the unit that caused the damage, but to stop the Empire entirely from allowing the evil of heart to take from the citizens.

Although these guards had been retired for some time, Ralph appeared at their home and asked that they come out of service to destroy the imposter prince. At first they're skeptical, but Ralph insists that they're being called out of retirement because Prozen knew of their reputation and felt that no one was better for the job.

Yet, it wasn't as if they would simply go and murder the child in his sleep. The Guards confronted Van and his team and challenged him to one on one battles against their three Zaber Fangs. Although Irvine goes in first, intent to find out their capability, he is quickly defeated and manages to bring Grosscao's Zaber Fang down with him. Van succeeds to follow up Irvine's "success" by defeating the other silver Zaber, but when faced against Wagner he finds the pilot to be much more formidable.

Wagner not only takes down the Black Redlers of Ralph's unit when they try to interfere, but he faces the Blade Liger head on. At a final moment, at the climax of the battle, Rudolph calls out in concern for Van. Wagner recognizes their prince and stops his attack, leaving him open to be defeated by the Blade Liger. Van declines to destroy Wagner with a final attack but rejoices in the challenge of a real battle.
