- Berserker Vs. Ultimate Wild Body!! (1)
ZAC 2101, March
| Northern Europa
| Republican Army's "Nixie Base"
The strongest naval combat Zoid, the Wardick, is back. With its beam and missile attacks, it destroyed the Nixie Military Port.

It's a rule that I have to write this down, Wolff. I have no intention of dying. Not until I see you sitting on the throne as our new Emperor. But then, I won't be able to call you Wolff anymore.
(Excerpt from the Last Will and Testament of 2nd Lieutenant Anna Tares, of the 2nd Special Duty Force of the Imperial Army's 13th Special Manoeuvre Division.) |
The Helic Republic was a prosperous country. Ever since the Great Catastrophe of Planet Zi that occurred 40 years ago, they had been working tirelessly to recover.
The second counter-offensive operation of the Imperial Army was a surprise attack from the sea. Wardicks raided from the front. Meanwhile, a transport ship landed behind the base.
|
During that time, their national power was said to be five or six times that of the Guylos Empire, which had continued to devote its national budget to military spending. All of its enormous financial and industrial power was now about to be devoted to this war. Their total strength, which was less than one-third of the Imperial Army's at the beginning of the war, had already greatly exceeded it. For the Republican Army, now was their chance to launch a landing operation to the Dark Continent. The technological capabilities of the Empire were said to be five years ahead of the Republic's. They had no idea what new weapons they might develop if they were given more time.
On the contrary, the Empire wanted as much time as they could get. They prepared the mainland defenses and waited for the completion of their decisive combat Zoids. That was the grand strategy that HQ had derived. That is, a surprise attack by prototype Zoids. It was their strategy to carry out the actual combat tests and the sabotage of Nixie Base all at the same time. The second arrow of the Imperial Army, following the previous Zabat airstrike, was approaching from the sea.

The unit that's about to sortie from its transport ship, the Whale King. It's a forbidden Zoid, the Berserker, Death Stinger, who could destroy the planet itself.

During the early hours of March, ZAC 2101, the defensive line of Hammer Heads, naval combat Zoids that the Republican Army had believed to be invincible, was breached. The enemy was the Wardick. It was the strongest Zoid in the water during the Old War. How was it that such a grand fleet of Wardicks, which had previously been on the verge of extinction following the Grand Catastrophe, suddenly appeared off of Nixie's coast? It was the work of Imperial technology. They had used the OS to forcibly promote the division and growth of Zoid Cores. This implied that it may be possible for them to infinitely grow Wild Zoids.
What if this technology could be taken further? It may even be possible to revive the remains of extinct Zoid cores.
A rain of missiles and beam cannons poured from the Wardicks, into Nixie's military port. The Zoids, the facility, and the people trying to escape were all engulfed in flames. The harbor had been completely destroyed by the time the Republican Army finally turned to rebel against them. There was no doubt that the impending invasion of the Dark Continent would be even further delayed.
Raynos and Pteras, equipped with anti-ship missiles, raged an attack on the Wardicks. The Wardicks tried to escape with a rapid dive.
"Don't let them escape!"
The voice rang angrily from Headquarters. But the raid was only the first step of the Imperial counter-offensive operation. An even more terrifying Imperial Zoid had landed on the other side of the peninsula while the Wardicks were drawing the attention of the Republican Army.
The name of that Zoid was the Death Stinger. The
Berserker who had finally been defeated by two machines, the Beast King, Blade Liger, and the Demon Dragon, Geno Breaker. It was a relic of an ancient super-civilization, and it was known to be able to proliferate infinitely by using the nutrients of other Zoid's cores. It was a demon that had the potential to destroy the planet itself.
There were a total of 10. The turmoil from the Wardick's raid had yet to subside, and they rushed into Nixie Base.
— Why is the berserker, whose development should've been frozen by the Empire when they were unable to find a way to control it, here?
The Republican soldiers were terrified. The base was thrown into a panic.
The camouflage-painted Death Stinger unit (codename KFD) invades Nixie Base. The Republic's soldiers were thrown into a state of terror.

The Ray Force was ordered to sortie. It was a new division formed for the Dark Continent landing operation. A special unit far from the main force that specialized in high-speed warfare. Ray Gregg was assigned to this unit.
That's what he had been hoping for. A special forces unit that operated outside of the chain of command would be able to infiltrate deep into enemy territory on its own. So he'd look for him. The pilot of the experimental tyrannosaurus type, and the small Zoid. He was obsessed with that notion, and Ray himself knew that. But he couldn't move on as a Zoid rider unless he could lay to rest the emotions he felt regarding his dead subordinates, Arthur Borgmann, and his obsessive premonition of death.
Ray Force, move out! Will the combined power of Ray and the new wild beast king, Liger Zero, be enough to defeat the berserker, Death Stinger?
|
Ray slipped into the cockpit of the Liger Zero after being kicked in the ass by a loud emergency alarm. This was the completed version of the experimental lion-type machine that Ray had captured. The Zero's unique characteristics weren't limited just to just the maneuvering systems that harnessed the instincts of its wild self. It also had the CAS. A revolutionary system that allowed one to select the most suitable armaments for their mission by retrofitting the outter armor. There were four forms of armament. A basic form that had been discovered from the data left behind by the Imperial Army. Then there were three other types, the fighting form "Schneider", the artillery form "Panzer", and the high-speed combat form, "Jager", which were original units developed by the Republic's Technological Department. Unless otherwise specified, the forms chosen were left up to the discretion of the pilot.
Ray preferred the basic form. It was unpopular among other pilots due to its poor armaments, but it was easy to handle because of that lack of specialization. As long as you could get it to do what you wanted to do, the claws and fangs were more than strong enough as weapons.
"Ray Gregg, Sortie! What's your target?"
"The Berserker. The Empire brought that thing back to life!"
Ray was unexpectedly presented with the opportunity to fight the enemy who had killed Arthur Borgmann.

Death Stinger's only weakness was the gaps in its super-heavy armor and the exposed joints.
|
Outside the hangar was a mess. Countless corpses from Republican Zoids that had tried to intercept were scattered across the ground. The more they challenged the Death Stingers with their large army, the less room they had to maneuver, and the more they'd have to sacrifice.
"Get back!"
Ray shouted. He knew how to fight the Death Stinger. He'd done many simulations based on the records recovered from Arthur's machine. You had to aim at the gaps in the super-heavy armor, the exposed joints.
Ray's Zero jumped in. The Death Stinger's claws violently intercepted him. It was fast. With terrifying reaction speed. Any average high-speed Zoid wouldn't be able to avoid it. However, Ray and Zero's instinctive reflexes were even faster. They dodged the counterattack by a paper-thin margin and cut through the joints. Then, he thrust

his claws into the belly of the Death Stinger, which was now unable to move.
Zero sensed danger. A whirlpool of light came from behind them. It was the Charged Particle Cannon released by Death Stinger No. 2. Zero kicked off from the ground and escaped into the air. There, it was raining shells. A salvo fired from the Panzer force. They attacked the super heavy armor with great power. The moment the bombardment stopped, the Schneider and Jager units came charging in. The Jagers distracted them with their amazing speed and mobility. Schneider's Laser Blades pierced the super-heavy armor head-on. The Death Stingers went up in flames one after another. The Zero's power was overwhelming. However...
Ray had doubts. Could this really be the enemy that Arthur Borgmann had fought to the death against?
Schneider charged with the 5 Laser Blades and the E-Shield fully deployed. It broke through the super-heavy armor head-on.

On the seabed off the coast of Nixie, the Whale King who had been transporting the Death Stingers was quietly watching the battle.
|
"All KFD units have been incapacitated!"
Wolff Muroa was listening to the observer's reports at the main bridge of the Whale King, which was lurking at the ocean floor near Nixie.
"It's more fragile than I thought."
"We reduced its overall output to 70%, just in case. I'm guessing that's why."
Signer, who was accompanying Wolff as his second-in-command, responded to his question with his usual intonation.
"We just needed to know if they could be used with the interface, which does seem to be the case."
The interface. It was the small Zoid that Wolff had taken from Nixie Base. This small Zoid, unearthed in the wake of the fall of Nixie, was the last piece that the Berserker Death Stinger prototype had lacked. It was a unit that absorbed the stress that the OS typically gave the pilot. With the discovery of this interface, the OS-equipped Zoids would finally fall under human control. So, pilots were on board the experimental Death Stinger (KFD)s during the sortie.
"The KFD self-destruct device has been activated."
Again, the observer reported. As planned. This military secret could not be passed on to the enemy. No, rather, it couldn't even be passed on to his allies, no one other than his closest compatriots. The KFDs exploded one after another on the monitor. Wolff left the bridge, leaving his men in command. He couldn't maintain his expressionless behavior. At least, Signer couldn't be fooled by it.
As the successor to the Emperor's throne he should be pleased. The plan was proceeding according to his father Prozen's wishes. The ultimate weapon would be resurrected, and when it was, the Zenebas Empire would be resurrected alongside it. But Anna had died. She was on board the KFD as its pilot. She'd been his friend since a young age, before he had realized his destiny. She was the only friend who still called him Wolff.
The figure of the White Zero that had killed Anna would remain burned into Wolff's mind forever.
