| Republican Army's "Nixie Base"
The Republican Army chased the Imperial Army down with bombardments from the Destroyer Corps. The final battle of the Western Continent War, the battle to capture Nixie Base, has begun.
The ceasefire recommendation was in vain. We now have two paths. We can either give the Guylos Empire more time, and await the day that our homeland is in danger again. Or we can charge into the enemy's homeland and cut down the cause of this war, the Imperial Regent, Gunther Prozen.
(From a speech by President Louise Elena Camford of the Helic Republic.) |
A Whale King with a huge bay full of Zabats flew over Nixie Base.
|
Two months had passed since the attack on Nixie Base. During this time, the Republican Army had almost completed its sweep of every remaining Imperial Army base on Europa. The Western Continent War was coming to an end, both in name, and in reality. Alongside all of this, the Republic's President, Louise Camford, immediately recommended a ceasefire to the imperial army. However, Gunther Prozen, who had succeeded in withdrawing his main force remained silent, as if to mock this offer.
On the day of the deadline, Nixie base echoed not with the sound of music signaling the end of the war, but with the sound of one of the Republic's air raid sirens. The base's alert radar had discovered a large fleet of Whale Kings flying at an altitude of 30,000 meters.
Is this a continuation of the war, or the arrival of peace? On this fateful day, the Empire delivered a present of death.
|
The Republic's Air Defense Squadron launched immediately. However, it was impossible for the Raynos or Storm Sworders to reach that altitude with the interceptor missiles, used to combat against large ships.
One of the Whale Kings leisurely opened the hangar doors. From there, countless demons descended.
Zabats. The new dive bombers developed by the Imperial Army. These unmanned aircrafts, which could be radio controlled from the mothership, descended vertically at a speed that even the most robust pilots could not withstand. Without fear of anti-aircraft fire or crashing into the ground, they invaded from ultra-low altitudes and scattered large homing bombs like rain.
A modified Whale King that flies at an altitude of 30,000 meters. It's impossible for the Raynos to intercept it.
|
The damage dealt to the Republican forces was enormous. This first attack wave alone delayed the future landing operations on the Dark Continent by more than a month.
The flagship Ultra Saurus also suffered terrible damage. She was targeted during the process of being retrofitted from a land warfare machine to a naval warfare machine. She took three direct hits and was destroyed. Even this huge ship wouldn't be able to withstand a second attack.
The second wave had arrived. Just like before, it came from a Whale King invading over Nixie, at 30,000 meters up in the sky. The commander of Nixie Base had made their decision. They would deploy the Salamanders.
Salamander. It was a giant flying Zoid that had been secretly deployed by the Republican Army, with anticipation for the intercontinental war. It was the largest bomber in the history of the Republic, boasting extraordinary cruising range and climbing altitude.
The final trump card of the Republic's Air Defense Squadron, the Salamander, has been scrambled. Can the Republic's strongest flying Zoid protect Nixie Base?

- The Power of the Guylos Empire (2)
The giant pterosaur-type Zoid emerged from the hangar and soared into the sky, carrying anti-aircraft missiles used against large ships. The soldiers at the Nixie Base saw them off with praying eyes.
The Salamander force spread the wings of their Magnesser Systems and burst through the clouds at full power. The challenge to reach the ultra-high altitude of 30,000 meters had begun.
|
The same prayers were shared by those at Headquarters who had ordered the Salamander to sortie. They weren't convinced that they would be successful at their interception. It certainly seemed that the maximum altitude that the Salamander could reach exceeded 30,000 meters, but that was computational data. In the last year and a half they'd learned that often times, real battle betrayed those calculations. Would this state-of-the-art machine, which hadn't even been fully tested, reach a high enough altitude with missiles so large that they could barely be loaded?
"10,000 meters... 12,000 meters... 15,000."
No one spoke in the command center, except for the observer who read out the Salamander's ascending altitude during every moment.
The Salamander's pilots felt that the acceleration of their unit had started to slow down following 20,000 meters above sea level.
"25,000... 26,000..."
The wings, equipped with high-powered Magnesser Systems, just weren't enough at this altitude. They could barely grip and repel the magnetic force from the planet's surface. The jet engines used in unison were struggling to catch enough air at this ultra-high altitude, where the air was thin.
The Zabats next drop is rapidly approaching. Will the Salamander force make it before the time limit?
|
"27,000... 8,000... Good luck, Salamander."
The modified Whale King fleet seen in their monitors were already prepared to drop their Zabats. The Salamander pilots struggled to control their excitement and continued to encourage their beloved machines.
"28,500... 9,000..."
Finally, the leading Whale King started dropping its units.
"9,500... 30,000! All right, all missiles launched!"
Their anti-aircraft missiles launched all at once. 1 second, 2 seconds, 3 seconds, 4 seconds... A hit! The Whale King silently exploded at high altitude. Then the second ship, and then the third. A total of five whale kings sank, while the rest turned their noses towards the North. Nixie was saved at this critical moment. However, the cheers from the base were short-lived. Everyone felt terror at the unfathomable power of the Guylos Empire.
Nixie Base was thrilled about the successful interception. However, new operations carried out by the Imperial Army were already underway.
