Gentlemen, the time has come. Now is the time to fight in the name of Zenebas. We shall raise our flag and put an end to the 50 years of humiliation. Then we'll return to our homeland, the Central Continent!
(From the speech of Gunther P. Muroa, the First Emperor of the Neo-Zenebas Empire) |
However, Ray Gregg was still alive. The Führer withdrew as soon as he had recovered his comrade. Apparently he didn't have much energy left either.
The Ray Force, devastated, retreated to Republican territory. As the Hover Cargo staggered forward, Ray thought about Wolff Muroa. He was the heir to the throne of a country that no longer existed, who had risked his life just to save his men. Was that sad demeanor the result of a person who had been born into a harsh life with such an unrelenting destiny? With that final thought, he shook it off. On the battlefield sentimentality was pointless. They had both survived. So, they would fight again.
He knew he would meet that man again, he was sure of it. It wasn't just Wolff. Ray, too, was caught up in an unrelenting destiny. Maybe all of them were...
The Berserk Führer headed south. Its goal was the Nifl Marsh. Here, they would meet up with the main forces of the Eisen Dragoons, and set sail for the Central Continent. The main forces of the Helic Republic had gathered here in the land of Nyx, and were engaged in a drudging battle against the forces of the Guylos Empire. There would be no one on the Central Continent who could stop the Eisen Dragoons.
Since leaving the battlefield, Wolff hadn't spoken a single word. He just kept his mouth tight as a knot, almost like he was angry.
Signer remained silent as well. Even though he hadn't said anything, Wolff knew what he was thinking. That straight-laced look on his face was a habit he'd had since Wolff was a child, and he had it every time he had done something wrong.
He thought he was reckless as the heir to the throne. But, in the corner of his mind, Signer was also thinking.
I wonder what kind of country this soulful man will make?
At the same time, a mysterious Zoid was being built in the Republic's military sphere of influence. No one knew yet how the Dark Continent War would end.
