The Berserk Führer is the flagship Zoid of the Eisen Dragoon, and a state-of-the-art machine at that. Its equipment, focused almost entirely on combat made it one of the strongest Zoids in the Neo Zenebas force during their campaign to reestablish the former Zenebas Empire.  [1]

- Concept Art

This sketch, shown off in Dengeki Hobby's September 2001 issue depicted a wild rex Zoid post human modifications, and is the earliest sketch of what would eventually become the Berserk Führer. Its influence remains clear even in the finalized design.

Two more prototype sketches from the same issue showed a prototype closer to the Panzer's design language, as well as a 'stealthier' armor that seems to have inspired the final base unit's design. At some point, there were even concepts for a Goulas armor (the Gojulas MK3) designed!

From the same issue, these two concepts for the Berserk Führer, which started out under the code-name "NEW T-REX" showed off the novel idea of having the Zoid be used by both armies. People could swap which army their rex was in by swapping its armor, with a Republic (left) featuring a Shield-Integrated Beam Cannon and Empire (right) designed.

Geno Maxi 2, a design recognizable to many fans from the early 2000s was part of the NEW T-REX design process. Some traits, like the folding extendable arms would stick around late into the design process.

Interestingly, the Berserk Führer's design was initially conceived during the OJR era, but was too much of a novelty at the time, so was shelved for years. In these concepts we can see that it originally sported a couple different color schemes, including black and red and Sturm Tyrann ish colors.

Three more concepts, from FigureKing and CoroCoro show off a later stage of development, which began near the start of Phase 2 (the NJR era.) At this point the design was almost complete and emphasized its CAS features, labeled T-Rex Neo BF Type on the art but it still had some minor changes to undergo. For example, the arms in the concepts are composed of folding arms that act as anchors when the Charged Particle Cannon is active. The High Maneuver Thrusters on the back also contain fins that fold out while they're active.

What appear to be finalized concepts for the Berserk Führer from Figure King 299.

- Military History

ZAC 2100, October, Wolff Muroa, Fall of Nixie Base

As Nixie Base fell to the Republic, Zoids flooded into the building. Running ahead of most was Ray Gregg and his Shield Liger DCS-J, along with a group of Gun Snipers. Upon reaching the basement they found two prototype Zoids, a tyrannosaur and a lion, along with a strange tiny Zoid embedded in stone. The tyrannosaur awoke, instantly killing Ray's Shield Liger, then the Gun Snipers. Now short a Zoid, he made a mad dash for the prototype lion. He was able to fight back, but the tyrannosaur soon snatched the tiny Zoid from the platform and escaped through the roof. The tiny Zoid was the interface, the final missing piece of the Organoid System that the Empire had sought for so long. The two prototypes would later go on to become the finalized Berserk Führer and Liger Zero.

ZAC 2101, June, Nyx Landing Operation

After the Helic Republic was guided through the Triangle Daras by a mysterious Zoid, they landed on Nyx only to see the Guylos Defense Forces being slaughtered by another unit of the Empire. The final transmission picked up from the Guylos Forces denoted them as the Eisen Dragoon.

ZAC 2101, July, Guylos Base Capture

As the Ray Force charged ahead of the landing operations they deployed Shadow Foxes in all directions. One of these stealth Zoids came across an ongoing battle at a volcanic base. A battle in which the Defense Forces of Guylos were being slaughtered by the Eisen Dragoon. Even the Geno Saurer, which had commanded so much prestige in the previous war was rendered incapable of fighting back, its particle cannon useless against the E-Shield of the finished Berserk Führer.

ZAC 2101, August, Wolff Muroa, Eisen Dragoon Vs. Ray Force

When the Ray Force reached the base they ran into the Eisen Dragoon, and almost every Zoid in their unit was immobilized by the Dragoon's Grounchars. The leader of this force, Wolff Muroa, made contact with Ray. His mere introduction instilled fear in the Ray Force. Not of the man himself, but of what he represented. The Muroa name was descended of Helic Muroa, the original ruler of the Republic. If such a name were to return to the Central Continent the people would be divided in civil war. Knowing that, the Ray Force couldn't let him escape.

Their immobilized Zoids had all been damaged aside from Rays. Recognizing Ray as the man who had faced Anna Tares and her Death Stinger KFD, a battle that resulted in her demise, Wolff was intent on taking out the Zero himself. Only, it fought back. It still would've died, if not for the intervention of the Helic Republic sending Gunblusters to the battlefield. During the moment of their bombardment, Ray was able to jettison the armor of his Zero. With this, he could rely on the Zero's instincts in battle, removing its equipment to have less interference.

In the end Ray won, and it was then that the Bloody Demon, an experimental unit piloted by Signer Feuer erupted from the base. He distracted them while Wolff fled. When the Republic ordered Ray to take chase, he refused, choosing instead to stay and defend his allies who were otherwise defenseless. In spite of the odds, Ray won this battle as well, only to have Wolff return to save Signer. They fought once more, Wolff throwing off his armor to match the Zero's speed. This time, he struck the Zero to the core with the Buster Claws, forcing Ray to forfeit, and escaped with his trusted subordinate.

ZAC 2101, December, Wolff Muroa, Invasion of the Central Continent

The fall of Valhalla served as a signal for the Eisen Dragoon, which had risen as part of the Neo Zenebas Empire. They were waiting for this moment to invade the Central Continent. As soon as flashes were reported in Valhalla they landed in Cook Bay. Berserk Führers rolled out alongside many other state-of-the-art Zoids, including its upgraded forms of Sturm Führers and Sturm Tyranns. In particular, the technology introduced by the new Empire created widespread panic and confusion. Newly-developed Dark Spiners could interfere with enemy Zoids and even turn them against one another. The Eisen Dragoon didn't even have to do all of their own fighting under these circumstances, and within 3 weeks of landing they had claimed the western half of the continent, including the capitol of the former Zenebas Empire territory.

Within 7 weeks of landing they had reached Helic City, the Republic's capitol. The Republic had already expended most of its strength. A huge portion of their military power had been sent west to Europa, and then north to Nyx. They also weren't yet equipped to handle the disruptive tech of the new Empire. Revolts across the continent further complicated their situation, as many former citizens of Zenebas supported the new Empire. Though there was no shortage of powerful designs in Helic's own arsenal, the perfect storm of circumstances left them with no choice but to surrender or die.

Helic City fell, and Tommy Paris, attempting to smuggle President Camford out of the city in a Saberlion nearly died to the Buster Claws of a Berserk Führer and several frightening run ins with other Imperial Zoids.

ZAC 2106, Autumn, Rise of the Gairyuki

Neo Zenebas, now several years into their reign over the Central Continent had almost entirely wiped out the Republic. However, some old mistakes would come back to bite them. After rejecting the initial idea of BLOX as a reconstruction Zoid meant to rebuild after the war, they threatened ZOITEC, wanting them to make BLOX designed for war instead. ZOITEC's reaction was to start working on rebuilding the Republic, clearly expressing their ire towards Neo Zenebas by fully funding this endeavor in exchange for their know-how on developing large-scale Zoids.

In the autumn months of ZAC 2106, this joint venture captured a Dragoon Nest. As soon as the nearby Zenebas force realized it was under attack they rushed to support the transporter, only to be destroyed by a brand new type of Zoid. A Berserk Führer faced this threat head on, but found it hard to fight with how maneuverable it was. So, the Zoid readied to fire its particle cannon. In a shocking turn of events the enemy unit absorbed the full blast, then fired a terrifying attack right back at the Führer, destroying it. This was the combat test of the Gairyuki, a Zoid that would go on to cause major problems for Neo Zenebas. One that was developed from the same wild form as the Berserk Führer.

- Notable Facts

  • The Berserk Führer is evaluated as being stronger than the Geno Breaker.

  • Some of the Berserk Führer's decals use the font Data 70. The font's exagerated styling has sometimes led to the Zoid being estimated at 390 km/h among fans because this is the font displayed on the front of the box, and the 4 and 9 look quite similar. The cleaner font on the back of the box reveals its true speed.

- Equipment Information

- Anchors

Anchor: アンカー

Like other particle cannon rexes the Berserk Führer uses anchors to stabilize its position and absorb the recoil during the firing sequence. It uses a total of four, two on the back of each leg, making it more effective than those on the Geno Saurer.  [2]

- AZ 185mm Beam Cannon ×2

AZ 185mm Beam Cannon: AZ185mmビームキャノン×2

These weapons are installed between the three Buster Claws. They fire solid beam attacks and can fire even when the claws are closed or the Zoid is already charging up for the particle cannon, providing additional cover. The highly-articulated arms allow them to address threats from any angle.

In the anime New Century /ZERO they're actually able to fire additional particle beams, giving the Berserk Führer 3 simultaneously-firing CPCs.

- Buster Claw x2

Buster Claw x2: バスタークロー

The Buster Claws are one of the most diverse weapons in modern Zoids. They house ranged weaponry, can fold out into straight blades or spin together as a drill, and open up during the use of the E-Shield. The rapid-rotating drill mode allows these blades to punch through enemy armor. The fast rate of spin makes use of the Magnezer system, a system that once devastated the Empire when it was used on the Mad Thunder.

Aside from their many uses, the blades are highly articulated. The weapon arm rotates forwards and backwards 360 degrees at 3 different points: The blade bundle attachment, the middle of the arm, and the base of the arm. The arms also move inwards and outwards at two different points, the base attachment and the weapon attachment. The blades fold together or extend outwards, and the entire drill unit spins.

- Charged Particle Generator x3

Charged Particle Generator x3: 荷電粒子ジェネレーター×3

Charged Particle Generators are installed to the three main segments of the tail, and seem to generate power for the CPC. When the particle cannon is in use, these panels open up.

- Charged Particle Cannon

Charged Particle Cannon: 荷電粒子砲×1

The Berserk Führer inherited design aspects of its predecessors and has a Particle Cannon installed to the mouth. Like the Geno platform the entire body supports this weapon, with particle generators in the tail and anchors on the backs of the legs both activating during use. It sports a more adaptive cannon that can diffuse the particle beam to something much larger, or narrow the scope of the attack to a denser, smaller beam.

- E Shield

E Shield: Eシールド×2

The Buster Claws also contain the E-Shield equipment. This defensive measure is strong enough to withstand even a direct hit from a Geno Saurer's Charged Particle Cannon. The right image shows how this weapon is depicted in the original battle story, generating waves of electrical blue energy. The gold light seen is the dispersing blast from a Geno Saurer's CPC. In the animated media it's depicted as a reddish dome in front of the Zoid, like what we saw with the Blade Liger in Chaotic Century.

- Electron Fangs

Electron Fang: エレクトロンファング

The Berserk Führer has Electron Fangs, allowing them to charge with energy. If it works like other Electron Fangs, theoretically they have the potential to immobilize enemy Zoids, but are never depicted in this fashion. Even so, these fangs are sharp enough that they're more than sufficient to tear through small-scale Zoids.  [2]

- High Maneuver Thruster x2

High Maneuver Thruster x2: ハイマニューバスラスター×2

The High Maneuver Thrusters installed to the back increase the unit's mobility. When in use this weapon opens up, and it's described as a more compact, more powerful version of the thrusters used on the Geno Breaker.  [2]

- Ion Booster Pack

Ion Booster Pack: イオンブースターパック

The Ion Booster Pack is the backpack between the High Maneuver Thrusters. It's a powerful booster that contributes to the Berserk Führer's high maximum speed.

- Strike Claws x2

Strike Claws x2: ストライククロー×2

The feet of the Berserk Führer. With the agility of this wild-form-focused Zoid it has no problem making use of them in combat. On top of that, they're the hardest material found on the wild form.  [2]

- Strike Laser Claws

Strike Laser Claws: ストライクレーザークロー×2

The Strike Laser Claws, much like the Liger Zero are weapons that coat with energy to increase their cutting potential. The small size doesn't hurt their damage much, however, as they're described to be nearly as powerful as the Liger Zero's.  [2]

- Strike Smash Tail

Strike Smash Tail: ストライクスマッシュテイル×1

The Strike Smash Tail is pretty self explanatory. Smack a Zoid with this much weight and it goes flying.

- Vernier Thruster x10

Vernier Booster x10: バーニアスラスター×10

These items are installed to the backs of the legs, but it's a little ambiguous, being listed on the sides of weapon diagrams instead of within. One seems to be on each side of the calves, being stationary. A third attached to the back of the legs, which can rotate straight down against the ground. The others are on the back of the legs, which have panels that can open up. These thrusters increase the unit's mobility and are actively used when hovering.

- Zoids New Century /ZERO

The Berserk Führer played the important role of final boss in the Zoids New Century /ZERO anime, where it was piloted by young backdraft pilot Vega Obscura. In this series the Zoid exercised a high degree of free will, taking the reigns on multiple occasions. It was touted as an "Ultimate X", like its rival Liger Zero, and was excavated from a sealed container buried in the sea, its true origins unknown.

- Zoids Official Fan Books

In the original battle story it also played an important antagonist role as the main machine of future Neo-Zenebas emperor Wolff Muroa. The Zoid was one of two prototypes being developed in the Empire's final stronghold on Europa, Nixie Base. After the base fell into enemy hands, the Berserk Führer would be the only prototype saved, while the other fell into enemy hands, later becoming the Republic's Liger Zero.
