Introduction

Halford is a combat analyst with a massive superiority complex and a touch of sexism. He constantly talks down to and belittles the choices and capabilities of others, and has no qualms sacrificing even the best Zoid pilots for the success of his own combat strategies, so long as he gets results.

The Black Organoid, Episode 49

Back in the day Halford worked alongside Dan Freiheit and Leon. The group was surveying some ancient ruins, hoping to find an Organoid and actually succeeded. At this point Halford had already been discouraged, feeling that even if they found an Organoid they'd have a lot of catching up to do. After all, he'd heard that an Imperial group had already begun studying one. When Prozen showed up with a sizable Imperial platoon, threatening to destroy the entire Wind Colony if they didn't hand over their prize, Dan Freiheit complied. So long as they would allow his team and his village to live, they'd had over the Organoid. Disgusted by this, Halford ran to the capsule and opened it, setting the Organoid (Shadow) free. It flew away immediately and was pursued by the Empire, while Dan Freiheit sacrificed his life to destroy the rest of the Imperial Forces who otherwise would've wiped out the entire unit, Halford included.

The Geno Breaker, Episode 49

Halford, working in the field of combat analysis arrived to formulate a proper plan on how to address the Geno Breaker, a Zoid he claimed to specialize in studying. He came up with the Delta Formation, a maneuver to surround the Geno Breaker and destroy its footlocks, theoretically disabling its particle cannon. This plan came with many challenges. People expressed concern over how to get close enough, and Halford argued that they'd rely on the Liger's shield. That because the Geno Breaker lacked Pulse Lasers that they wouldn't need to worry about it breaking. He shut down any and all disagreement, placing full faith in his assessment instead. He even used his history of working with Dan Freiheit to manipulate Bang into being more compliant, of course leaving out the role he played in his father's death.

Battle Against The Geno Breaker, Episode 50

Fine and Moonbay worked to upgrade the Blade Liger's boosters, while Thoma and Irvine equipped electrical pulse shields to their Zoids, giving them the opportunity to survive a hit from a particle beam. At this point, Halford asked to speak to Fine. He ordered her to reverse the upgrades to the Blade Liger, claiming that the extra boost in speed would decrease the chance of achieving the Delta Formation by 40%.

He also ordered that both shields be removed from the other Guardian Force Zoids, citing that Zoids using the pulse shields increased their energy expenditure by 300%. This caused two problems. One, it increased the chance of a system freeze by 60%. Two, Zoids were known to become overly cautious when they were expending massive amounts of energy. When Fine challenged how his plan accounted for either of the two taking a hit, he simply said that if either of them did, it would give the Blade Liger and the other surviving Zoids an opportunity to target the Geno Breaker's foot locks. He had no qualms about sacrificing her friends for this goal, and when she seemed reluctant, he shifted towards giving someone else the job. Fine interrupted, ensuring that she would handle it.

With that matter handled, Halford expressed that after the mission he wanted to pull Fine from the Guardian Force unit and reassign her to the Ancient Ruins Research Section. He claimed to specialize in the study of Ancient Zoidians as well as Organoid recovery, and felt that as an Ancient Zoidian, she'd be a good fit there. An offer she didn't quite care for, especially given how he'd treated her before. When she asked if it was an order, he said to consider it a personal request. Fine left, claiming she needed to tend to his other orders.

While she did express his concerns to the team, they all refused to comply with them. Fine didn't bother to inform him, ensuring that Thoma and Irvine could enter battle with their shields, a choice that saved both their lives. Halford was furious at her disobedience once the battle commenced. Nevertheless, they were able to achieve the Delta Formation. In spite of that, all of Halford's careful planning went out the window when the Geno Breaker survived the Republic's assault with an E-Shield, then proved that it could fire from the air without the foot locks. The first wave of Republic reinforcements was obliterated. Fine implored Halford to call for a withdraw, but he insisted that the battle must be settled there. He was so determined to see his strategy proven true that he forced all soldiers to remain on the field. The entire Gojulas unit was killed as a result. Halford was correct about the energy expenditure, and the Saix froze on the battlefield. With Thoma also out of ammo, Bang drew the attention of Raven and his Geno Breaker. The battle ended in the Liger's defeat, with the Breaker surviving in fine condition.
