Outbreak of the Central Continent War
- The Two Princes
- Helic II Inaugurated as First President
History is a cycle of alliance and rupture. The opposing peoples on the Central Continent were gathered into one under Helic, and a peaceful period arrived.
After becoming king and governing the entire continent, King Helic took a daughter of the Jenas house as his princess, and bore the first prince Helic II. And later, King Helic took the younger sister of his former foe Guylos as his second princess, bearing a second prince and naming him Zenebas.
The first prince, Helic II, was descended from the Jenas house, who prized peace, harmony and unity and possessed excellent governing abilities. And the second prince, Zenebas, was descended from the brave warrior Guylos, who broke through difficult situations with courage and strength.
King Helic hoped that these two would form the two wheels of "intelligent unity" and "brave protection of peace", serving to maintain and manage the Republic. This was the honest wish of Helic, who had lived through a long-lasting age of war and truly sought peace and stability.
This wish of his was inherited by the two young princes, or so it seemed......
- The Zenebas Empire and the Beginning of National War
Having accomplished the great enterprise of living through an age of upheaval and bringing together the continent as one, King Helic passed on at the age of 78. Helic II, the first prince and natural successor to the throne, wished not to succeed the throne but to leave it vacant and become President. He appointed his younger brother Zenebas as Republic Army Supreme Commander, and the Supreme Congress approved.
Helic II inherited his father's dying wish and thought to govern the Republic by decentralising authority between the brothers. However, his will did not get through to his brother Zenebas. As long as peace continued within the Republic, it merely invited boredom and dissatisfaction in the military's Supreme Commander Zenebas. The young Zenebas could not understand that a powerful army staves off war and conflict simply by existing. Zenebas held countless large-scale military exercises, trained his soldiers and commanded them well, but his irritation gradually spread to the army's senior statesmen and soldiers. The blood of his warrior father Guylos clamoured within Zenebas.
And so came the worst and most unfortunate of times, for the brothers and for the Republic citizens.
Zenebas plotted an army invasion outside the continent of his own accord, without gaining permission from the president or parliament. Fortunately, this was leaked in advance, and was prevented by the presidential bodyguards. However, this incident made the opposition between the brothers conclusive.
Zenebas said to Helic II, "Telling a soldier not to fight is like telling a bird not to fly! And yet you call yourself a ruler?!" Nobody could stop the hot-blooded Zenebas. The elite soldiers and their subordinates, centred on his bodyguards, followed the young, bold commander Zenebas. They rose up in the middle of an anniversary parade for the uniting of the continent, and invaded the west of the continent.
Barricading themselves away in castle ruins from the old Inter-Tribal War, they gained control of the surrounding territories one after another. Due to this fact, the parliament voted to dismiss Zenebas as Republic Army Supreme Commander and exile him from the country.
Within the western territories were quite a few of Guylos' former vassals and people related to the Earth Tribe. Zenebas' reckless actions unexpectedly resulted in him being supported by these people. One of them, a tactician who had been chief vassal of his father Guylos and had always felt antipathy towards republicanism, advised Zenebas. "Child of Guylos! You should separate from republicanism and establish a nation of glory and honour, where warriors can once again live as warriors. We shall give our lives to follow you."
And so, Zenebas gained control of the continent's western half in a short period, named it the "Zenebas Empire", and declared independence from the Republic.
Here, the Helic Republic's ideals of peace and equality collapsed, and the arrival of an age of war could once again be seen.
