The Shield Liger DCS-J (Double Cannon Special - Jet) was created at the height of the Western Continent War, when the number of available combat units had thinned. The Helic Republic grew determined to create a Shield Liger that could combine the strengths of both the base model, with its supreme melee abilities, and the DCS, with its less mobility but improved artillery. The result was the DCS-J.  [1]

- Details of Design

The Challenge of Balance

A common misconception about the Shield Liger DCS-J is that it's too wild for normal pilots to handle. The much larger issue with the DCS-J is that in order to meet its goal of a faster DCS, the Republic improved its power engines, allowing it to travel 35 km/h faster than the standard Shield Liger. While this seems like a good idea on the surface, it doesn't appear that the overall balance of the machine was addressed. In the end, it was so hard to control that it was discontinued after a mere 7 units were created. Though they are noted to be 'picky machines' the implication is that the upgrades destroyed the machines natural, physical balance.

- Military History

ZAC 2100, June, Transport Fleet

In order to end the war quickly, the president of the Helic Republic ordered a transport mission that would move 20 of the Republic's mainland defense units (roughly 400,000 troops and 20,000 combat Zoids) to the Western Continent. During this mission, the fleet was attacked by the Empire's Sinkers. However, this attack was anticipated. Countless heavy artillery Zoids including Gojulas the Ogre and the Shield Liger DCS-J were lying in wait within the transporters. They had no problem eliminating the Sinkers from the deck.

ZAC 2100, October, Ray Gregg's Shield Liger DCS-J

As the Destroyer Corps invaded Nixie Base, Ray Gregg led a platoon of only ten units into the deepest part of the base. He was seeking the underground factory, where he was searching for answers about what exactly the Empire was trying to achieve with its unusual Zoid experiments. Upon entering the hangar, he found two prototype Zoids, as well as a third, much smaller Zoid. This small Zoid was the interface for the Organoid System, and the final piece required to make it fully functional under human control. However, before Ray could act, his Shield Liger DCS-J and the Gun Snipers who were accompanying him were destroyed by the experimental tyrannosaurus Zoid.

Ray survived the attack, stole the experimental lion type, and fought back. In the end, his opponent fled with the interface, and Nixie Base was seized by the Helic Republic. The experimental lion-type Zoid that he had captured became the basis for the Helic Republic's Liger Zero.

- Notable Facts

  • The Shield Liger DCS-J is heavily tied to the Leomasters. Because it was nearly impossible to pilot, it was given to seven high-speed specialists who became known as the Leomasters.

- Equipment Information

- Beam Cannon x2

Beam Cannon x2: ビームキャノン×2

DCS-J carries over the standard equipment from the Shield Liger DCS. However, with the improvement to the power engines, the Double Beam Cannons are even more powerful than those found on the standard Shield Liger DCS.

- Beam Cannon Booster x2

Beam Cannon Booster x2: ビームキャノンブースター×2

The boxes on the Beam Cannons include a set of boosters. With the increased power engine output, the DCS-J achieves even higher speed than the standard Shield Liger, but at a severe cost in overall balance.

- Energy Tank x2

Energy Tank x2: エネルギータンク×2

Like the DCS, the DCS-J sports Energy Tanks underneath of the Beam Cannons, likely to supply these massive weapons with power. Not much information is ever given about them.

- Missile Pod x2

Missile Pod x2: ミサイルポッドアタッチメント×1

Because the Beam Cannons attach to the Shield Liger's side arms, the missile pods are relocated to the lower equipment mount on its back. Their new position locks them in place at an upwards-firing angle. Like the normal Shield Liger, the boxes contain 8 missile slots each, for a total firing round of 16 missiles.
