During the Western Continent War, the Republic rolled out multiple versions of Shield Liger based on similar equipment to the MK-II type from the Old War. This version reissues the Double Beam Cannons, with updated capabilities. This allowed the Shield Liger, which formerly focused on primarily close-range combat to enter into long-range artillery battles. [2]

While this improved the Zoid's armaments, its mobility, and thereby its close-range fighting capabilities fell.  [1]

- Military History

ZAC 2100, July, Pursuit of Retreating Guylos Forces, Western Continent War

During the Western Continent War, the Guylos Empire attacked Rob Base, the Helic Republic's stronghold on Europa. They failed their attempt, and when they began to retreat, the Republic launched pursuit forces to run them down. The forces sent to pursue the northern retreat included standard white Shield Ligers as well as white Shield Liger DCS units. They were accompanied by the strongest corps of the Republic.

When they caught up to the Imperial forces, their targets had nowhere to flee, and their rear support troops were wiped out by the thousands of pursuing Helic units. In order to save their retreating allies, the Empire's Special Forces, consisting of roughly 30 combat Zoids including the Lightning Saix, Death Stinger, and various modified Geno Saurers, surrounded the pursuit force and attacked from all sides.

It was the actions of a single Shield Liger DCS that radically changed the tide of war. It fired a solitary bullet into the helmet of the Death Stinger, and though no significant damage was caused, the deadly sea scorpion went berserk. It killed every Zoid on the battlefield aside from its commander, a Lightning Saix, who managed to evade the shot in time. The Zoids were later harvested for the Death Stinger's nest. As grim as this outcome was for the Shield Liger DCS and presumeably its pilot, this triggered a series of events that lead to the demise of the Death Stinger, which created a distraction for the Republic's other greatest threat at the time, Ritz Runstedt and his Geno Breaker. Had these two units not been inconvenienced by their great battle on the sidelines, Ultra Saurus the Destroyer might not have reached Nyxie Base, and thus secured the Republic's victory in the Western Continent War. Of course, the end result also could have been much worse.

- Equipment Information

- Beam Cannon x2

Beam Cannon x2: ビームキャノン×2

The Beam Cannons replace the missile pods on the side arms. They fire large energy rounds. In addition to being able to fold out to the sides for an adjusted firing position, the cannons can also rotate up and down, providing even more firing control.

- Beam Cannon Booster x2

Beam Cannon Booster x2: ビームキャノンブースター×2

The intakes on the front of the Beam Cannons feed into a booster, which help the Shield Liger DCS achieve its speed in spite of its large weaponry. With this boost, it maintains the same speed as the standard Shield Liger.

- Energy Tank x2

Energy Tank x2: エネルギータンク×2

Two large boxes on the sides of the cannons serve as energy tanks. These presumeably supply the cannons, but they're not given much description in the official media.

- Missile Pod x2

Missile Pod x2: ミサイルポッドアタッチメント×1

This includes the Missile Pod Attachment, which is a slot on the additional equipment mount on the lower back. Since the DCS uses the side arms for the Beam Cannons, the missile pods are relocated to this position on the rear. They're locked in a static, upwards-angled firing position.
