- Military History

ZAC 2099 ~ 2100, October, Rollout

The Elephander started out its life as a high-power unit with grand plans in mind, during the end of the Western Continent War at a point in which Guylos had a clear advantage. However, by the time it was able to be pushed to the battlefield the war situation had drastically changed. The Republic had called in their most powerful forces, the Destroyer Corps, and were already nearing Nixie Base. It was the most important Imperial base on Europa and there were still tens of thousands of Imperial Zoids stationed there, awaiting the Destroyer Corps that had already torn through their defensive line.

The Empire finally gave the order to withdraw all troops back to their homeland. However, they needed time to load them onto the fleets. Nixie wasn't just an above-ground base. Zoids had fled in all directions, including to the underground hangars. They needed to select pilots to stand against the Republic in a battle of impossible odds. For this they selected former pilots of the Zenebas Empire. Ever since Guylos had absorbed Zenebas' army 50 years ago, Zenebas soldiers had played the role of sacrificial pawns. However, on this occasion, the soldiers were honored. Honored to sacrifice for the sake of saving their future ruler, Wolff Muroa, son of Gunther Prozen, a descendant of the former Emperor Zenebas who would once more give rise to the Zenebas Empire from within the shadows of Guylos.

With the help of their thick armor and E-Shields, the Elephanders protected Nixie Base against a force 10 times their size, a battle that lasted hours before Nixie finally fell into the hands of the Helic Republic. The Elephanders finally fell when they came under heavy fire by reinforcements in the form of Dibisons, Cannon Tortoise, and others. By the time they'd fallen, they'd taken out three times as many Republican Zoids. This grand display of force allowed their allies to escape, and the aerial pursuit force that the Republic sent after their fleet was stopped by other former Zenebas soldiers, fighting another fatal battle in Redlers.

- Notable Facts

  • The Elephander along with the Assault Gatling unit were based on submissions to a fan art contest in School Grade Magazine.

- Equipment Information

- 2-Barrelled 45mm Beam Gun ×1

2-Barrelled 45mm Beam Gun x1 : 2運装45mmビームガン×1

This small gun is attached to the top of the trunk, under the visor. As the name implies it fires energy rounds. In New Century /ZERO this weapon is shown to fire as an automatic while alternating between which barrel is being fired.

- 45mm Beam Gun ×2

45mm Beam Gun x2: 45mmビームガン×2

The Beam Guns are located on each side of the back. They don't see much use in the media, but we can assume they fire energy rounds.

- 45mm Machine Gun ×1

45mm Machine Gun x1: 45mmマシンガン×1

This weapon is attached to the top of the tail and seems to move in conjunction with it. The name implies a high rate of fire.

- AZ 105 mm Linear Gun ×2

AZ 105 mm Linear Gun x2: AZ105mmリニアガン×2

The Linear Guns refer to the shorter guns on the belly. There's one on each side, but they don't seem to get much use, so their effectiveness is unknown.

- AZ 105mm Beam Gun ×1

AZ 105mm Beam Gun x1: AZ105mmビームガン×1

The AZ 105mm Beam Gun is attached to the back, and refers specifically to the longer barrel. The gun mount is articulated at the back connection, where it can rotate 360 degrees, and at the joint with the caps, where it can tilt forwards and backwards. In New Century /ZERO, both back guns are depicted alternating fire.

- AZ 115 mm Pulse Laser Gun ×1

AZ 115 mm Pulse Laser Gun x1: AZ115mmパルスレーザーガン×1

The second barrel of the back weapon is the Pulse Laser Gun. Likewise, it has the same rotation points, and alternates fire alongside the Beam Gun.

- AZ 144 mm Railgun ×1

AZ 144 mm Railgun x1: AZ144mmレールガン×1

The railgun is the longer barrel attached to the belly. The weapon doesn't see much use but we can presume it works like real life rail guns: relying on electromagnetic energy to accelerate high-velocity projectiles. These weapons are often considerably more effective than conventional guns of the same size.

- AZ 60mm Hyper Laser Gun ×2

AZ 60mm Hyper Laser Gun x2: AZ60mmハイパーレーザーガン×2

The Anti-Zoid 60mm Hyper Laser Gun is attached to the sides of the trunk, on the top. These weapons fire energy rounds and in New Century /ZERO are depicted alternating fire between the two barrels. Its location to the highly-articulated trunk gives it good directional control.

- E-Shield Generator ×2

E-Shield Generator x2: Eシールドジェネレーター×2

The Elephander has an interesting and unique E-Shield design based on the ear pieces. While they look rather normal at first, there are two moving plates on the back that move into position when the E-Shield is activated. The top panel flips upwards on a hinge and the outer part swivels into place on a peg. In some configurations the Elephander also uses option parts for the trunk to reinforce its E-Shield, as seen on the right. The standard Elephander typically uses the Iron Claws instead of these parts.

- Strike Iron Claw ×1

Strike Iron Claw x1: ストライクアイアンクロー×1

The Strike Iron Claw is attached to the end of the trunk. This weapon acts like a possessed claw machine, flipping four metal prongs outwards that ensnare enemy Zoids. The trunk can then be used to reel them directly into the tusks, or hold them in place while they're gunned down by the other weapons.

- Twin Crusher Tusk ×2

Twin Crusher Tusk x2: ツインクラッシャータスク×2

The tusks of the Elephander. These tusks are powerful enough to tear a medium-sized Zoid to pieces in a single strike. This is impressive given the Elephander's smaller-than-generally-thought size. In some media it's depicted using this weapon alongside the Strike Iron Claw, snaring enemies with the claws then reeling them in to gore them with the tusks.

- Featured In Media

- Zoids New Century /ZERO Anime

The Elephander appeared as a reoccurring antagonist in Zoids New Century /ZERO. In this series it was piloted first as part of the Backdraft Group and later passed on to Stoller. Throughout the series it has several conversion set ups, showing off much of the Elephander's unique equipment, including the Commander conversion.

- Zoids New Century /ZERO Manga

Zoids New Century /ZERO also had a manga that differed considerably from the show (while still touching on a lot of the same battles.) In this short book the Elephander once more faces off against the Schneider, this time featuring a more specialized E-shield that formed a small barrier in front of it, which it always angled directly in front of its opponent.
