- Unit Description

We've faithfully recreated the Beast Liger, a medium-scale lion-type Zoid that appeared as the main character Leo Conrad's companion Zoid in the TV anime Zoids Wild ZERO.

The coloring of the unit is a warm white for the armor and brownish gold for the claws and back unit. The cylinders on the legs are painted gold, which is the coloring of the Beast Liger that appeared in the first episode of the anime. The shape of the armor on the head, mane, and front legs, and the prototype Jet Boosters on the back are recreated with newly molded parts. When the Activation Bone (switch) is turned on, the motor starts up and it moves forward, the head lifts up and down, and the mouth opens and closes. Parts to make the standard Beast Liger are also included, and can be replaced to make a Beast Liger in the original colors of this product, allowing you to enjoy the Evolution Release (Evo Blast gimmick).

- Episode 1: The Flying Lion

——New Earth Year 0025, somewhere near Aegis Valley.

A single Zoid and a hoverbike cut through the dry air. A few moments later, seven or eight Jaminga swarmmed towards them, their eyes glowing an eerie red.

"Are you okay, Liger?"

Leo Conrad, the red-haired boy on the hoverbike, called out to the wounded white lion Zoid.

"Grrrr..."

The Liger running next to him didn't look back at Leo, but responded with a light grumble. There was no need to worry about these kinds of scratches - Leo could feel that, as if Liger were saying it himself. Even so, if he hadn't tried to run through the ruins, this wouldn't have happened in the first place... Just as Leo was feeling bad about his actions, a Jaminga jumped out from behind a rock ahead of him.

"Oh no, they're here too!"

Leo panicked and swerved, but lost his balance and fell down. In the mean time, the Jaminga caught up with him, and Leo found himself completely surrounded.

"ROOAAAAARRR!!!"

Liger intervened, pouncing on the swarm of Jaminga. He knocked back one after another... However, he was outnumbered. He was gradually tiring, and his limbs were shaking as the Jaminga's sharp claws pierced through the thin armor. Liger endured the pain, and exploded into a spring to shake off his enemies. The shock of being thrown back disabled several of the Jaminga, and the rest fled. Leo ran up to the Liger, who although he had won his fight, was severely injured.

"Liger! ... I'm sorry, this is all my fault..."

He wanted to repair it right then, but there was nothing he could do with the parts he had on hand. Leo gave the Liger minimal first aid and decided to move on.

As they approached the edge of Aegis Valley, Liger saw something, and came to an abrupt stop. Leo stopped the hoverbike and walked up to Liger. He looked at the ground, where Liger seemed to be focusing his worries, and saw that there were tire tracks leading up to the cliff.

"Maybe a car went over the edge... But if someone was inside, they'll be in real trouble...!"

It was at that moment that Leo and Liger looked down into the valley, fearing for the safety of the driver.

——Crack... Crumble! At that sound, the ground, which couldn't bare the weight of Liger's paw collapsed. Liger instantly jumped away, but due to the damage he'd received in the previous battle, his reaction hadn't been fast enough.

"Liger!!"

Leo jumped towards Liger to help him. However, there was nothing he could do, and the two of them fell to the bottom of the valley together...

"——Oooowwwww..."

Although they'd fallen from a considerable height, Liger had managed to land on the valley floor, despite his injuries. Leo, who'd been desperately clinging to him so as not to be thrown off, gently stroked the Liger's chest. They were now at the bottom of the valley, which wasn't exposed to direct sunlight, so even in broad daylight it was dim. Just as he was thinking about how lonely it was, they heard the faint voice of a person.

"... Hey! Is anyone there... Help me!"

Heading toward the voice, they saw a four-wheel drive vehicle buried under fallen rocks. Leo recalled the tire marks and called out to them.

"Are you okay!?"

"The car's chassis is twisted and I can't get out! Boy! Are you with a Zoid? Please, help me!"

"——Heh, I thought I'd die. I didn't eat or drink anything for three full days!"

The man thanked Leo as he handed back the water bottle. He'd been running around as a freelance courier, and during his work, he'd overloaded his luggage, causing the load to become unbalanced and fall into the valley. He'd been quite injured, and was feeling severe pain in his broken left arm when he tried to move it, but it wasn't anything life-threatening, and they'd used the man's wrench as a splint.

"Oh right, I still haven't introduced myself... I'm Buzz Cunningham. What about you?"

"I'm Leo Conrad."

"Leo? Thanks, Leo! ... By the way, why are you in a place like this?"

Leo explained how they'd ended up there, and told him about Liger, who'd been injured and was now in trouble.

"——I see... I'd love to help... but it can be quite difficult to find the parts needed to repair a lion-type."

Leo seemed bummed at those words, but suddenly something flashed across Buzz's face.

"No, wait... Yeah, maybe I can help."

"Really!?"

"Oh, but I just have one request... Can you help me with my work?"

"Uhh, you're a courier, right?"

"... Actually, I was planning to deliver this package to an Imperial Army Zoid Base."

Buzz explained that even if the parts were difficult to obtain in the private sector, they'd be stored at the Imperial base, and if they were able to safely deliver the package, he could ask the army for the parts for him.

"The Empire could've become a major customer of mine because of this big mountain here. It's a huge job for me... but now the car is useless, and that's not even talking about the chassis. Either way, there've recently been stories about bandits around here. I'm all by myself right now... but if I could get some help, that'd be a huge deal, so could you please help me?"

"If you can really get me the parts for Liger...! Mr. Buzz... Thank you!"

"Just Buzz is okay... Nice to meet you, Leo!"

With that said, Buzz extended his unbroken right arm and the two shook hands.

"Man, this is so convenient."

Buzz shouted in admiration. Leo and the others had managed to get out of the bottom of the valley, and they were now in the process of pulling up the luggage. Leo tied the luggage to a wire stretched from his hand-held multi-tool, secured it to his hoverbike, and pulled it up. Liger was resting, exhausted from the repeated accidents.

"Now that's a tool I've never seen... Did you make it, Leo?"

"Yeah, I designed it, but... it was my father who taught me how to make it."

Leo explained that he'd learned mechanical engineering from the books and notebooks left behind by his missing father.

"Thanks to my father's notebook, I knew how to rebuild and repair Liger."

"He sounds like a great dad..."

After collecting the rest of the luggage from the bottom of the valley, Leo asked.

"Well, where do we go from here, Buzz?"

"Right... The car is at the bottom of Aegis Valley. How are we going to carry all this luggage..."

Buzz decided that they couldn't carry it all at once. Fortunately, there was a small cave just a short distance away. They hid their luggage there, and carried it little by little.

"——Thanks, Leo! Let's take a break!

Halfway through the work, while they took their break in a cool cave, Buzz asked Leo a sudden question.

"Hey Leo... If you were on the Liger, wouldn't you have been able to escape from the Jaminga?"

Leo responded with a somewhat troubled look on his face.

"... Liger wouldn't gave it. We're working together, but he doesn't recognize me as a rider. "

"But when you rescued me earlier, it looked like you were getting off of Liger?"

"Yeah, I just happened to fall on top of Liger."

Leo was living in a Republican town when his father disappeared, and eventually discovered the fossilized Liger. He excavated it and restored it with his own hands. Leo intuitively sensed Liger's potential, but felt that he'd never be able to draw out its true power if things continued as they were now, so he set off on a journey with the Liger, having no destination in mind.

"——But, I still can't get him to open up to me. I want to become a rider worthy of Liger, and be able to bring out more of his power, but... I don't know if that's something I'll be able to do. The reason Liger got hurt in the first place... is because I messed up his leg."

"... Don't think so much! It's okay, you and Liger are still young."

"Thank you, Buzz... Right, we should get back to work!"

It was time to get back to work and finish up with their cargo. Buzz noticed a group of people approaching from some distance away, and hurriedly took out his binoculars.

"Leo, this isn't good... There are five Raptors... They're definitely the bandits we've heard so much about!"

"What do we do, Buzz?"

"The luggage is... On your bike. All right, let's just get it out of here!"

Leo waited for Buzz to get on the hoverbike then started it up. He put his foot on the gas pedal as hard as he could, but he couldn't outpace the Raptor's speed. They were gradually closing the distance between them, and if things continued like this...

At that moment, Liger, who'd been resting a little further away, sensed the situation. The next moment, he was running like a sailing arrow. One of the bandits chasing Leo and Buzz sent a message to the leader of their gang.

"Boss, there's a Zoid following behind us!"

"What...? Hey, I've never seen a Zoid like that before. It's a lion! That guy's Zoid is..."

The man flashed with anger in front of the unsuspecting reinforcements, but soon noticed that Liger looked a little off.

"Wait... This guy's wounded? Get him!"

The bandits quickly deployed in a vertical formation.

"Gyyyaaaooouu!"

Two of the Raptors attacked Liger with their sharp claws. He quickly tried to dodge the attack, but was still hit by the Raptors.

"What's going on? There's a lot of noise back there..."

"It's Liger! He came to help! Buzz, Stop! We have to help Liger!"

"No way, we have luggage...!"

The Liger, helpless against the two Raptors, finally dropped to his knees.

"Hehe, it's exactly like the boss said! This is a pretty easy victory, isn't it?"

"All right, this stalemate has lasted long enough. Help me out here!"

The two Raptors that were handling Liger were joined by the other three in front of them. At that moment, the wire tied to the bike came loose, and the luggage fell off.

"Hey, our cargo!"

"I'll go back for it! Buzz, take the bike!"

"W-What!? Hey!!"

Leo jumped off the bike as Buzz desperately grabbed the steering wheel with his right hand. He hurriedly gathered up their luggage, but the Raptors caught up and surrounded him.

"Oh, crap! He'll never make it!"

Buzz hurriedly turned the steering wheel and headed for Leo, but the hoverbike suddenly pitched onto its side from a Raptor's strong kick.

"Aaaaahhh!!"

Buzz fell off the bike. Horrible pain shot through his broken left arm. The bandit leader laughed as he stomped the bike with his Raptor.

"Now you won't be able to get away... Huh? Hey, kid! Give me your luggage."

——Clang!

Leo ejected the tip of his multi-tool and hit the Raptor in the nose. A dull metallic sound echoed.

"... Absolutely not! I'm not handing over our cargo!"

"This kid... He just won't get it until he suffers!"

The Raptor swirled as the bandit shouted. The tail crashed into Leo's hand, knocking the multi-tool away. As soon as he'd lost his weapon, Leo was kicked by the Raptor and sent flying several meters away.

"Leave the cargo and get the hell out of here!"

"... I refuse!!"

They kicked him again without hesitation. No matter how small of a Zoid the Raptors were, a human being couldn't hope to win against them. Even so, Leo got back up and stood his ground. Each time, the Raptor hit Leo again and again. In no time Leo's body was starting to show the grievous injuries. He was bleeding heavily, especially from his left arm and side, and he was barely able to stand. Even then, he still wouldn't hand over their luggage.

"... Leo! Enough already! Just give him the luggage!"

Buzz's sorrowful cries echoed. The Raptor slowly walked towards him, ready to finish him off. But, Leo's eyes were only staring straight ahead.

"I'm not handing this over, even if I have to die for it... Because without this, I can't repair Liger...!"

Leo screamed with every ounce of strength left in his voice.

"Liger... Liger is my family!! I'll protect him no matter what!"

That's when it happened. The light that had almost been lost returned to Liger's eyes and flashed brightly.

"RROOOOOAAARRRR!"

Liger raised his injured body and started running to Leo. After passing through the bandits and busting in between the leading Raptors and Leo, he roared powerfully at Leo.

"Liger...! You're gonna let me on...?"

Both Liger and Leo were already wounded, yet they both felt a strange surge of strength in their bodies. Leo climbed into the Liger's cockpit and grasped the control sticks. Liger accepted, and the cockpit hatch deployed. This was the moment that Leo and Liger became one.

"Tch, they got in. You guys! Let's do this!"

The bandit's Raptors surrounded Liger and launched their attack. He swiftly jumped through the siege and ran towards Aegis Valley.

"Liger... I see! All right... Let's go!"

There was only one way to escape — and Liger was conveying his will to Leo. The Liger got closer and closer to the valley, but rather than slowing down, actually started to speed up.

"Leo, Liger... No way... They're going to jump over the valley!?"

"Graaaaaahhh!"

With Leo's cry, Liger powerfully kicked the ground and jumped out over Aegis Valley. He wondered where all that power was hiding in their tattered bodies, and now the Liger, who couldn't even stand up before was jumping, no, flying. Everyone present thought they'd jump over Aegis Valley with that amazing power. In reality, however, the Liger gradually stalled, and finally fell to the bottom of the valley.

"Leeeeoooo—!!"

Buzz's scream echoed through the valley. The bandits gave up on their hopes of catching him, knowing they couldn't follow him to the bottom of the valley, and left, swearing. Buzz fearfully peeked down at the bottom of the valley. There, he saw Liger standing... and looking up at the cliff.

"What... the hell! Man, they're tough as nails...!"

Buzz shouted down towards the valley floor.

"I'll call for help right away!"

 ——A few hours later.

Buzz called for help from the Imperial Guards who were passing by, and Leo and the Liger were able to be rescued safely. Once they were rescued, the cargo that they were supposed to deliver was handed over to the officers. It seemed that the Imperial Guards had also had a hard time with the bandits, and perhaps because they felt guilty, they were able to come to an agreement for the parts for Liger, and the conflict ended. On the way to the base in the Imperial military vehicle, Leo spoke up.

"In that moment... I really felt like I could fly."

"I don't know why, but... I kinda felt like that for a second too. You can't, though."

"No... But I want to go over Aegis Valley with Liger."

"No way, that's not..."

"But, if we can cross that valley, our jobs as couriers would be a lot easier, right?

"Yeah, but...? Wait, our jobs as couriers? Why would you care about that?"

"I want to be a courier! And someday... I'll jump over Aegis Valley! With Liger!"

Buzz was taken aback by the sudden offer, but Leo's eyes were resolute.

"I'm sure we'll be friends for a long time. Again, it's nice to meet you, Leo."

"Yeah, it's nice to meet you too, Buzz!"

The two men shook hands, more firmly than before now that they weren't as injured.

Leo continued working as a courier, and set up a workshop in the courier's base.

As a token of his friendship with Liger, who had finally accepted him, he began to create a booster to jump over Aegis Valley. After some hard work, Leo finally completed the booster.

"Okay, it's installed! ... It looks good on you, Liger!"

"Rooaaar!"

"Haha, I'm glad you're happy with it... We'll definitely be able to jump over it with this, Liger!"

"Grrrrr!"

Liger nodded, giving Leo a trusting look. However, when it came time to challenge the Aegis Valley crossing, the booster's problems became apparent. The amount of propellant, the weight balance of the frame, and other problems piled up one after another. They made improvements and tried again, and again, but for days the failure continued. Even so, Leo and Liger never gave up.

The year was New Earth Year 0030.

"This is the 23rd time, right?"

It was actually Leo and Liger's 24th time attempting to cross Aegis Valley, including the day when they jumped the valley without boosters, to escape from the bandits. Liger ran through the ruined city, gradually increasing his speed.

"... This is reckless."

Buzz was standing on the hood of their four-wheel drive vehicle, happily watching through binoculars.

We can do it this time. Leo had this unfounded conviction in his heart. At the edge of Aegis Valley, Liger jumped from the ledge with one powerful step.

"Let's goooooooo—!"

The booster lit up, and Liger flew through the air over Aegis Valley. They seemed to soar through the sky forever.
