Zoids Official Fan Book 5 "Destruction"

Numerous beams were fired at close range. Even the Zero units found it extremely difficult to dodge. Several Zeroes immediately burst into flames. Ray escaped into the air. As he dodged, he took another look at the Seismosaurus. Multiple system BLOX were visible on its body. The Seismosaurus had been designed on the premise of combining with BLOX. This meant that its armaments could be freely changed depending on the situation. The Imperial Army called this enhanced armament type the Ultimate Seismo.

The Ultimate Seismo launched another volley of fire. This time, the Arosaurers suffered damage. Dew's machine, at the forefront, was the first to be riddled with holes. Steve's Giga was unharmed. Its E-shield was neutralizing the beams. The Giga counterattacked. It closed the distance in pursuit mode and used its power to throw the Seismosaurus away. A large fan was now visible on the belly of the Seismosaurus that'd fallen to its side. It was a charged particle intake system. The weakness of particle cannon-equipped units. The Giga's fangs dug into it. The Seismo burst into flames. The Giga turned to look for its next target. Then, a particle cannon blast came from another Seismo. At close range. The Giga's E-shield and heavy armor were instantly breached. The Giga slowly collapsed. Now, the only remaining force capable of fighting the remaining nine Seismo units was the force of a dozen or so Zeroes. They were feeling more and more demoralized. At that moment, a fierce cry rang out.

"Elite soldiers of the Ray Force! This is it! This is where we make our last stand! Stake your lives on protecting our comrades at Cook Fortress! Don't let a single one of their leaders escape!"

It was Ceres. As he screamed his rallying cry, he also unleashed a barrage of fire on a Seismo. The shots bounced off its thick armor, but he charged forward regardless. Ray also leapt into action. If the armor was thick, he would aim for the gaps. With the many joints of a sauropod, there were plenty of places to target. His fellow Zeroes followed Ray's lead. Cicily took down one of them. With Schneider's blade, she cleanly severed its head. Ray also sank his fangs into a neck joint. He was thrown around and slammed into the ground, but the impact also severed the Seismo's head. That made three. Beside him, someone shot the head off a fourth Seismo. It was Ceres's Panzer. Yet, he was still pinned beneath the headless Seismo. The Panzer, unable to withstand the weight, was crushed.

The Seismosaurus's super-focused charged particle cannon possessed terrifying penetrating power. Even the Gojulas Giga's E-Shield couldn't withstand a direct hit at close range.

Ceres defeated one Seismo in a bout of mutually assured destruction. Cicily's Schneider, who'd jumped in to help was knocked to the ground by the tail of another Seismo

The Zero patrol unit fought until they were completely wiped out. However, six Seismo units, though damaged, were still capable of firing their Super-Focused Charged Particle Cannons.

Ray hadn't given up. He'd fight as long as he still had life in him. But no matter what he did, his Zoid wouldn't move. Reluctantly, he got out. He could see the wreckage of a Schneider nearby. He forced open the cockpit lock and pulled Cicily out. She'd been badly injured, but she was still breathing. He looked around for other survivors. Then, he saw a soldier crawling out of the riddled Arosaurer. He hid Cicily behind the wreckage and ran to help. The soldier introduced himself as Dew Eld. He was bleeding profusely. He probably wouldn't make it.

"Take me to the Giga, please."

Dew said to Ray through ragged breaths. There was no time to question him. Ray hoisted Dew onto his back and, hiding behind cover, headed towards the Giga. The enemy wasn't particularly alert. It seemed they were preparing to resume their particle cannon barrage.

With trembling hands, Dew forced open the Giga's cockpit lock. The pilot inside was unconscious. Steve Bone. The ace of Dew's unit, and apparently his current partner.

"Take him, and any other survivors you find, and hide them under the Giga's belly."

"What about you?"

"I'm going to fight... I feel like Giga... might acknowledge me now..."

— What good would it do a dying man to be acknowledged by a dying Zoid?

Leaving the thought unspoken, Ray followed Dew's orders. He found Steve, Cicily, and two other survivors and hid them in the shadow of the Giga.

Inside the Giga's cockpit, Dew opened a panel and gripped a lever inside.

"You don't want to die like this, either, do you? Let's show them... how a Gojulas dies."

The Giga still had one last resort. The 32-Shot Zoid Core Cannon. A single strike that would release all of the Zoid Core's energy in an attack that exchanged its own life for one final strike. The Giga's dorsal fins began to glow. The Seismo realized only when it was already too late. And then, the entire area was enveloped in light.

The chaos at Cook Bay had reached its peak. Imperial Army ground forces, waiting outside the patrol zone, had launched a massive assault. Their numbers were staggering, and leading the charge was the Eisen Dragoon. Counterattacking wasn't feasible, their only hope was to push as many undamaged units as possible onto the transport ships. However, the Republican Army's command structure was in complete disarray. Machines ordered to launch to intercept collided with those trying to escape into the ships, setting transports ablaze from within.

A portion of the Eisen Dragoon had infiltrated the bay. The Republican Army's panic intensified. The specter of annihilation loomed in the minds of the Republic's soldiers. At that moment, a single red Zoid leapt from a Whale King circling overhead. Firing its thrusters to control its descent, it decapitated two Geno Saurers upon landing.

"What's that?!"

A Republican Army soldier shouted upon seeing the Zoid. Any soldier who had served since the Western Continent War knew that red machine.

"The Demon Dragon, the Geno Breaker..."

The monster of the Guylos Empire Army, which had destroyed countless Republican Army Zoids. Now, it stood before the Eisen Dragoon, its cold aura palpable, seemingly protecting the Republic's forces. But it was only one Zoid. The enemy had at least twenty units that had infiltrated the bay.

The Demon Dragon moved. A nearby Geno Saurer became its next target. But the enemy was also an elite. Two Geno Saurers immediately moved to provide support. Charged particle cannons were fired one after another. Furthermore, two more Geno Saurers leapt into the air to engage in close-range combat. The Demon Dragon dodged them using only the subtle adjustments of its thrusters. As it dodged, it swung the blade integrated into its shield. With each swing, a Geno Saurer's head fell to the ground. The Republican Army soldiers couldn't believe their eyes. That Zoid, equipped with the Organoid System, was treating its enemies like children. This time, a Sturm Führer appeared. It was a high-mobility form of the Berserk Führer, the main Zoid of the Eisen Dragoon. With its thrusters at full power, it challenged the Demon Dragon to close-range combat, exceeding even the Demon Dragon's top speed.

But the attacks missed. Its fangs, its claws, the tail, and the blades—none of them connected. The Demon Dragon narrowly dodged the Sturm Führer's attacks over and over again. Perhaps out of anger, the Sturm Führer's attacks were becoming more reckless, more wild. In an instant, the Demon Dragon leapt forward and unleashed a single, swift strike. With that one blow, the Sturm Führer's head was severed with surprising ease.

— A laser blade!?

One of the Republic soldiers muttered. Indeed, that blade was the weapon of the Republic Zoid, the Blade Liger. Why was a Zoid of the Guylos Empire equipped with it? But his question was drowned out by his superior's angry roar.

"Now's our chance! Load the Zoids and supplies onto the transport ship! As much as you can! Hurry!"

The Whale King, loaded haphazardly with Zoids, made an emergency launch. The last one to board, just barely making it, was the Geno Breaker. Its pilot, Ritz Runstedt, let out a deep sigh and shut down the power on his beloved machine. But the chaos in the hangar, still resembling a battlefield, prevented him from immediately leaving the cockpit. Some were slumped in relief, others were still screaming in terror, and some were silently continuing their work, suppressing their emotions. Looking down at them, Ritz pondered the strangeness of fate.

— I never imagined that I'd be helping the Republican Army...

After the battle with the Death Stlinger, Ritz had left the military, returned to his home country, and begun hunting down dangerous Zoids equipped with the Organoid System. Whether they were allies or not didn't matter. Those things simply shouldn't exist in this world. He'd fought and fought with that conviction, until his beloved machine, which he could barely maintain, finally broke down. He was captured by the Guylos Empire. He thought he'd be executed for sure, but the Iron Kong pilot who captured him had said something totally unexpected.

"Emperor Rudolf has declared that use of the Organoid System shall be abandoned. It will no longer be manufactured in our country."

— Has my wish been granted?

 Ritz couldn't believe it.

"That's only in our country, of course. Neo-Zenebas is still manufacturing Organoids. Are you going to let them continue?"

"You want me to help the Republican Army and defeat Neo-Zenebas? Me, a war criminal?"

"We need your skill, the skill that has allowed you to destroy only the machines without killing a single pilot."

And so, Ritz became a special duty lieutenant and was dispatched to Delpoi.

"Is this, also, your guidance?"

Looking at the laser blade equipped on his machine, Ritz thought of the now-dead Blade Liger pilot.

Meanwhile, Ray woke up in the Whale King's infirmary. After that battle, he'd apparently been rescued by an air force unit that had come to scout out the battlefield.

— I survived again.

That thought weighed heavily on his heart. He had to defeat Emperor Wolff. He had lived solely for that purpose. But almost all of his comrades in the Ray Force, with whom he had sworn to achieve that goal, were dead. Now Ceres was gone, too. Cicily had survived, but she was seriously injured. It was unclear if she'd recover. Moreover, the Republican Army itself had been driven out of Delpoi. How could he possibly reach Wolff now?

"Are we going back to Nyx?"

 Ray asked a medic nearby.

"No, they say we're going to the Eastern Continent."

At that moment, a broadcast came over the ship's intercom. It was General Rob Hermann, the supreme commander of the army.

"We have lost. Again. We've lost more than half of the comrades we desperately gathered, and now we're fleeing with our tails between our legs. Even so! I will never give up. ZOITEC has promised to help us rebuild the army. We've also got reinforcements from Nyx. We are not alone. It's not over yet. Those of you who still possess the will to fight, let us go forth together!"
