Pilots: Introduction:
This unique variant of Lightning Saix features a full suit of armor overtop of the standard Lightning Saix armor, intended to slow the Zoid down to safe parameters for the pilot, as otherwise the pilot would lose consciousness. Even with these precautions it remains a risk.  [1]

Damaged Data Banks, Episode 48

When the Saix first appeared it was held back by the safety devices. With this combination of technology it showed incredible results in tests, but when Dr. D ordered for the pilot to conclude the test he realized that they'd actually lost consciousness. The Saix was charging full speed ahead without a pilot maintaining control. It burst through a wire fence and with seconds to spare, Dr. D ordered the techs to remotely trigger the pilot eject seat. The Saix ran straight into the side of a cliff, but the pilot was supposedly saved.

Unfortunately, the Saix itself wasn't without setbacks. The Zoid survived with remarkably little damage to the body, but the memory banks of the Saix were damaged. It'd taken three months to program them the first time, and now that they'd received word that Emperor Rudolph was under attack, there was no way that Dr. D could mobilize the Saix in time.

There was one final option. Irvine's Command Wolf had sustained fatal damage in his battle against the Geno Breaker, and its body was dying due to damage to the Zoid Core. If he transplanted the Command Wolf's combat data into the Lightning Saix the Command Wolf could continue living inside the Saix's body, saving them both.

At first Irvine was grievously offended by this notion, thinking his Zoid would be made into some mad science experiment. It wasn't until Moonbay asked him to consider whether the Command Wolf might want to live, to get a little revenge against the Geno Breaker that he agreed to the transplant.

The Saix was mobilized with the transplanted data to try and save Emperor Rudolph. At first, the Lightning Saix fought against the Command Wolf's combat data. The Zoid grew unstable, and it was feared that it'd be torn apart by the different components not working in conjunction as they should. When Irvine appealed to his Zoid, reminding them that they were a team, the data and core synchronized. Irvine ejected the safety gear, and as he did, the Saix's eyes turned to orange, the same color as his Command Wolf's canopy. They took off at incredible speed to try to reach the battlefield in time. In the end they succeeded in saving both the Emperor and the President, as well as the stolen Dibison.

- Notable Facts

  • With the release of the HMM and RMZ series, this Lightning Saix also became known as the Irvine Spec. With such radical armor changes, however, I felt it deserved its own entry.

高速機動用機能保全装置(珂中具)

The Lightning Saix was made from the research of an Ancient Zoidian Technology Template, and the final mechanical result was a Zoid so fast that it couldn't be safely piloted without the pilot losing consciousness. To bring the Zoid down to a level where it could actually be useful to the military. After the Saix's combat data was replaced with transplanted data from Irvine's Command Wolf, the Saix synchronized with the Command Wolf's data, and this armor was no longer necessary.
