Story Information
Pilots: Introduction:
  • Hiltz
Death Stinger, the True Organoid. This insane machine was cultivated from an ancient Zoid Core, but eventually went berserk and risked all of Planet Zi. It is one of the most famous examples of the Organoid System, truly a terror to behold.  [1]

- Details of Design

Aquatic Mode

While the Death Stinger walks around like a traditional scorpion on land, its species is actually a sea scorpion. True to form, when the amphibious Zoid returns to water, it takes on different posture. The tail lays flat, and the armor panels along the side open up to create more surface space, allowing the tail to contribute to propelling the Zoid forward.

- Concept Art

The idea for the Death Stinger came from a fan's submitted artwork during a Zoids Idea Contest held by CoroCoro Comic.

The concept sketch for the Death Stinger, seen in CoroCoro's July 2000 Issue. It had many differences including the Shock Gun, Armor, Blades, etc.

In the same issue, a prototype of the Death Stinger was shown, with its tail extended for the aquatic mode.

- Military History

ZAC 2100, March, Birth

During the beginning stages of Organoid System experimentation, the Geno Saurer and the Blade Liger clashed at the Garil Ruins, fighting out of instinct. The Geno Saurer, realizing it could not defeat the Blade Liger, stole a core from the ruin and fled. This core would later be cultivated as the Death Stinger.

ZAC 2100, July, Rollout

As the Imperial Army was retreating, they took two different routes, a northern and southern route. The south route had been secured, and the Imperial Army launched its special forces to defend the northern route. Against the advice of the chief of their Engineering Department, Dr. F, they launched the Death Stinger, sporting the most complete Organoid System to date. During the course of the battle, the Death Stinger was struck in the head by a bullet. Though it was relatively undamaged, the instincts of the Zoid took over. Its pilots screams were heard over the coms as it went berserk, killing everyone on the Battle Field. By the end of the battle, everyone was dead (presumeably including the pilot), with only a single Lightning Saix having escaped the carnage.

ZAC 2100, October, Defense of the Nest

As Arthur Borgmann and Ritz Runstedt fought to prove who the greater Zoid warrior was, they stumbled upon a Zoids graveyard. Little did they know, this had become the nest of the Death Stinger. Since escaping months earlier, it had begun forming a home out of ancient ruins buried beneath the sand. Inside of these ruins, it had produced many offspring, using the cores of the Zoids from its former battle as sustenance for its young.

With two ferocious Zoids now threatening that nest, the Death Stinger launched an immediate offensive. Its aim was to kill the other two Organoids. The battle raged on, until finally, the Death Stinger's E-Shield broke. When the berserker was hit, it transformed even further. In the following conflict, it delivered a fatal blow to the Blade Liger's Zoid Core.

However, before the Blade Liger died, it acted as a body shield, allowing Ritz and his Geno Breaker to move into close range, where they used the Liger's blade to impale the Death Stinger through the head. This was the end of the Death Stinger, the True Organoid. Though Arthur died in the fight, Ritz survived, and presumeably destroyed the remainder of the nest (though it does not clarify either way.)

- Notable Facts

  • The Death Stinger is also known as the Berserker or the "True Organoid". The name of True Organoid comes from the fact that, for a long time, the two armies considered their OS Zoids, such as Blade Liger and Geno Saurer, to be incomplete OS Zoids. It wasn't until the Empire cultivated the Death Stinger's Zoid Core that they realized that the Stinger was the true Organoid, and that their own Zoids were merely pieces of that larger system.

- Equipment Information

- AZ 35mm Vulcan Gun x4

AZ 35mm Vulcan Gun x4:

These small guns are installed to the head armor of the Death Stinger. They fire rapid shots, with all four able to fire at the same time.

- AZ 120mm Hyper Beam Gun x2

AZ 120mm Hyper Beam Gun x2:

The Death Stinger has two sets of guns installed to the interior of the tail armor. The Beam Guns are specifically the longer barrels, located closest to the particle barrel. When the Charged Particle Cannon is active, this assembly extends outwards. The guns, however, can be fired even from a closed position, and the tail's articulation gives them a huge range of motion.

- AZ 120mm Hyper Laser Gun x2

AZ 120mm Hyper Laser Gun x2:

The Hyper Laser Guns are the second smaller set of guns in the Death Stinger's tail. Like the Beam Guns, they benefit from the tail's mobility, and the additional left-right joints on the armor panel. Peripheral media mentions the tail gun being able to fire directly backwards when extended. If that weren't enough, the Death Stinger killed a Blade Liger by simply punching the tail through its Zoid Core.

- AZ 930mm 2-Barrelled Shock Gun

AZ 930mm 2-Barrelled Shock Gun:

One of the Death Stinger's main weapons. They're installed to the back, and though they don't have a far firing range, they're said to pack tremendous power in close ~ medium range.

- Charged Particle Cannon

Charged Particle Cannon:

The Charged Particle Cannon is the most devastating weapon in the Death Stinger's assortment, and its most well known. The power of this weapon is said to exceed even that of the Geno Breaker's particle cannon, able to pierce large-scale Zoids with ease. When inactive, this weapon is mostly covered by the two armor plates on the sides.

- E Shield Generator

E Shield Generator:

The Death Stinger has an E-Shield Generator installed to the head. However, this shield isn't visibly depicted in the Battle Story, unlike other E-Shields, which have energy waves encasing the Zoid. The anime depicts this as an invisible skin-tight shield that glows when struck. In the Battle Story, the shield can withstand a direct impact from a point-black Charged Particle beam from the Geno series. It took the Breaker's advanced CPC and the Blade Liger AB's High-Density Beam Cannon firing simultaneously to finally crack the shield.

- Laser Cutter x2

Laser Cutter x2:

The Laser Cutters are blades hidden inside of the front claw armor. When active, they extend to the sides of the claws, which can then deliver a hit with tremendous force. They're sometimes depicted with a pale blue energy charge.

- Laser Fang x2

Laser Fang x2:

The Laser Fangs are the mandibles on the Death Stinger's face. Like the other weaponry, they're depicted with a blue energy charge, but they don't see much use to gauge their actual strength. Just imagine them nibbling apart all of the army Zoids to make a nest.

- Retractable AZ 105mm Linear Cannon x2

Retractable AZ 105mm Linear Cannon x2:

If the claws and Laser Cutters weren't enough, the front claws also have Linear Cannons hidden inside of the armor. When needed, the claws fold inwards, revealing the guns. When inactive, these guns retract into the armor, and with the claws in place, are completely sheltered from harm. Their power is often depicted downing medium to large-scale Zoids.

- Rocket Booster x2

Rocket Booster x2:

Though the rear claws are able to be used aggressively, sporting the same energy charge as the other blades, they aren't noted in the equipment list. Between the claws are a set of rocket boosters, which would presumeably be used to propel the Zoid through the water.

- Strike Laser Bite Scissors

Strike Laser Bite Scissors:

The Death Stinger's key close-range weapon. The Bite Scissors are the massive forward-facing claws. These claws close around a target and exert enough force to slice through a large-scale Zoid.
