- Introduction

The Cannon Tortoise is a heavy bombardment Zoid, which although slow, has brought enormous power to the Helic Republic army. Their unusual design, though simple, is well armored for a small-scale Zoid, and during firing the head can retract into its shell to protect the pilot. [1]

- Details of Design

- High Safety Records

Its amusing appearance makes it well-loved among the frontline soldiers. Historically, it also has a high rate of safe returns from the battlefield. This is a combination of factors. The first being its unique characteristic to withdraw the pilot into its shell, shielding them from harm. Followed by the fact that it's a rear-support Zoid, so its slow speed will rarely compromise it in battle, and with anti-aircraft guns it's well defended against attacks from the skies.

- Military History

ZAC 2034

The Cannon Tortoise was deployed during the late stages of the Central Continent War, as the main strength behind the Heavy Gunner Force, which provided support fire for the Armoured Division. In its original state it possessed less bombardment power than the modern version.

ZAC 2099, August

With the fate of the Republic on Europa hinged entirely on taking Mount Olympus, the Republic decided to launch and all-out attack on Imperial units. The Cannon Tortoise accompanied the Gordos in launching long-range bombardments during the night, cutting Imperial numbers to ensure that the High-Speed Force could successfully achieve their mission.

- Notable Facts

  • The original idea that the Cannon Tortoise was based on was a pillbox, a concrete guard post used by the military.

- Equipment Information

- Composite Sensor Unit

Composite Sensor Unit:

The Composite Sensor Unit is installed to the top of the Cannon Tortoise' shell. Its mount allows it to rotate 360 degrees. Since the Cannon Tortoise doesn't see a ton of use in media, there's little information about the capabilities of this sensor unit.

- Liquid-Cooled Charged Particle Beam Cannon

Liquid-cooled Charged Particle Beam Cannon:

A massive cannon that takes up a significant part of the Cannon Tortoise' shell. This weapon fires over an extremely long range, and not entirely linear, given those attacks eventually come back down to the ground. It's articulated at the sides, allowing it to rise up and target enemies long range. A liquid-cooling feature ensures that the cannon doesn't overheat easily.

- Liquid-Cooled 2-Barrelled High-Speed Automatic Cannon x2

Liquid-Cooled 2-Barrelled High-Speed Automatic Cannon x2:

These guns are placed on the sides of the Cannon Tortoise, closer to the back. Like the Beam Cannon, they can rotate up and down, adjusting their range of fire. They share the liquid-cooling features with Cannon Tortoise' other gun. Since the Cannon Tortoise is mentioned to have anti-air capabilities, these are likely the guns used to target aerial attackers. [1]

- Recoil Control Spike

Recoil Control Spike:

The Cannon Tortoise' tail doubles as a recoil control spike. When the tortoise is ready to fire, it hunkers down, the head withdraws into the body, and the control spike is wedged into the ground, preventing the Tortoise from being knocked back by the heavy recoil of its massive cannon.
