- Character Introduction

Arthur Borgmann is an ace pilot of the Republican Army, and one of only a handful of individuals who have earned the title of Leomaster. He lead a brilliant military career, and was known by his brothers in arms as "Crazy Arthur", for his dedication to piloting Zoids. [1]

- Personality

Arthur is a little mischievous, in his own way, and was described as being a carefree individual who often caused trouble for himself simply because he enjoyed piloting Zoids. Ultimately, that was all he wanted out of his career. When his job brought him around to the Blade Liger, he began to want to learn more about the Organoid System, to truly gain an understanding of it.

- Military History

Arthur Borgmann also appeared in Zoids Tactics, with a bulkier design over all. This image was drawn over the official Tactics art to try to bring it back to modern image quality standards.
ZAC 2100, January, Piloting the Blade Liger

Arthur was ordered to test the Republic's new Zoid, the Blade Liger, during a mission to bring back data from the Galil Ruins. However, he found it a difficult Zoid to control, and ultimately, it won a battle of wills, and began to forge its own path to the ruins. He was ambushed by Rev Raptors, but he had little trouble with them thanks to his escort of Gun Snipers and Storm Sworders.

At the Galil ruins, Arthur was confronted by Ritz Runstedt and his Geno Saurer, but Ritz had lost far more of himself to the fighting instincts of his Zoid. Arthur fought for the cultivation capsule within the ruin, believed to contain the missing piece of the Organoid System. While his Blade Liger was pulling ahead in the battle, the Geno Saurer diverted its attention to more important tasks. It grabbed the core from the capsule and fired its particle cannon through the roof, making a quick escape before Arthur could catch it.

ZAC 2100, July, Piloting the Blade Liger

Just as a bad storm rolled over Rob Base, the Imperial Army decided to launch a massive attack. A single Iron Kong PK entered the base. Arthur was boxed in on all sides by his allies' parked Zoids, and was unable to fight. To his amazement, Gojulas the Ogre, which had only been able to be piloted via auto pilot (which was turned off at the time) sprung to life and slaughtered the Iron Kong PK. Presumeably a reaction to it attacking Irvine. Soon they cleared the immobile Zoids and Arthur was able to join the battle outside, though this battle was not described in detail.

ZAC 2100, August, Piloting the Blade Liger

It was determined that the only Zoid that could compete with the Empire's new units was the Ogre, which could only be controlled by one person, a mercenary named Irvine. So, the Republic began testing new equipment that could bring the Blade Liger up to par.

Arthur had witnessed the miracle of the Ogre during the defense of Rob Base, and the power of Ritz Runstedt's Geno Breaker. If these kinds of feats were possible when a pilot became truly synchronized with the Organoid System, he wanted to see those results. He tried to forget everything that he had learned during training, and began to stay in the pilot's seat for as long as he possibly could. Yet, the Blade Liger's mind was still too much for Arthur, who was so carefree.

Even so, he began to understand the Blade Liger bit by bit. He could feel which piece of equipment felt the best to the Blade Liger, and based on the Liger's preferences, he chose the Attack Booster as its new upgrade.

ZAC 2100, October, Piloting the Blade Liger AB

Arthur Borgmann confronted Ritz Runstedt's Geno Breaker, in defense of Ultrasaurus The Destroyer. Their vicious fight brought them away from the moving Destroyer Corps, and ultimately into the nest of the Death Stinger. When both pilots realized that their Zoids were afraid of this monster, they combined their strength in attempt to defeat it. Only, their strongest attacks didn't work, and when Ritz was stunned by one of the Death Stinger's attacks, Arthur tried confronting it from the opposite side. His Blade Liger AB received fatal damage, but not instant.

At this point, Arthur truly understood the feelings of his Blade Liger. His Zoid hated the Organoid System above all else, a system that twisted its mind and made it more ferocious. To lose to the Death Stinger was a fate that it could not bare. Arthur decided for the sake of his dying machine to confront the Death Stinger head on. He gestured to the Geno Breaker to follow, and charged, using the Blade Liger's dying body to tank the Death Stinger's attacks. During the charge, Ritz seized a broken blade that had been torn off earlier into their fight, and plunged it into the Death Stinger's head, killing it.

Arthur died during these valiant efforts, and an unmarked tombstone was left on the battlefield, engraved with the words "As far as I'm concerned, the greatest Zoid Rider sleeps here. His courage, decisive power, and soul should be the guideline for all Zoid riders, transcending the boundaries of the Empire and the Republic."

- Notable Facts

  • It's implied that Arthur was among the many pilots who wanted to pilot Gojulas the Ogre, but was unable to do so. When reflecting about how the Zoid could not be controlled, he mentioned having given up on that goal himself.

  • Arthur has always wanted to continue riding Zoids. So much so, that when talks of a promotion came up, he would always get into some sort of trouble to screw up that opportunity, so that he wouldn't have to leave his job as a pilot. Had he not carried out these actions, he likely would've gone on to become a General.

    - Blade Liger --> Blade Liger AB

Arthur Borgmann's Blade Liger AB, from its fight against the Geno Breaker in Official Fan Book 2.
At the time of his death, Arthur's Blade Liger AB was his favorite Zoid. He'd been chosen as its test pilot, saw it through the weapon trials, and over a long period of time he began to understand it through the mental link of the Organoid System. However, his Zoid was an unruly one. It fought against his commands, and at first it was a constant battle just to get the Blade Liger to go where he wanted it to. It was easier to follow the Liger's sense of direction than to fight against it.

However, it also had a great enthusiasm for combat. The Blade Liger rejoiced when it met the Geno Saurer, an enemy that could be a good challenge. The influence of the Organoid System made its fighting instincts run wild, however, and ultimately the Zoid grew to hate the ferociousness that the system had awoken in its mind. As Arthur observed, installing the OS, which forced Zoids to become more violent was fundamentally different from installing armor or weapons, which did not affect the Zoid's core temperament.

When his Blade Liger stood before their greatest enemy, the Death Stinger, he recognized the extent of this disdain. He chose to do whatever it took to defeat their target, the True Organoid. His Blade Liger received fatal damage from one of the Death Stinger's tail weapons during an attack. However, before its death, it managed to toss up an Energy Shield to save Ritz Runstedt's Geno Breaker, as well as acted as a shield so that the Breaker could ultimately kill the Death Stinger. In the end, the True Organoid lost the fight, even if neither Arthur nor his Blade Liger survived.
