- Chaotic Century; Volume 1
In Volume 1 of the Chaotic Century graphic novels, you'll open the pages and find a very familiar scene. Our protagonist, Van Flyheight, fleeing the assault of a Guysack zoid. The only difference is, this time it's one of the increasingly aggressive wild zoids that are roaming the area, instead of a bandit picking on a child.
This is perhaps a little deceptive, however. There's to be no mistake that the Chaotic Century novels will blossom into an entirely unique story line of their own, and as the book progresses, and Van gets back to his village, you'll begin to notice the major differences in plot and characters!
By the end of the book you'll see some other familiar characters coming into play, including Raven and his Zaber Fang, and Fiona. The book will end on a nice cliffhanger, and gives the graphic novel series a strong start that immediately draws the interest of those who enjoyed the anime.

- Information
- Introduction
This information is the official text in the VIZ translation of the first volume.
In the farthest reaches of the galaxy, there is a planet, Planet Zi, sixty-thousand light years from our Earth. On Planet Zi, countless varieties of giant life forms with metal-based bodies--ZOIDS--inhabit the world. Mankind took those lifeforms and altered them into beastly fighting machines, and the wars spread throughout the world.
The tragic history of Planet Zi includes massive wars and natural disasters, but some 40 years previous to this story, the worst of natural disasters hit--a gigantic meteorite collided with Zi. It wiped out an entire portion of a populated continent and threw the rest of Zi's survivors, both human and ZOID, back to an earlier age. Sadly, the meteorite did not wipe out human aggression, and hints of a new war have even reached the remotest of villages, such as one on the southern tip of the Western Continent, a village on the outskirts of the Elemia Desert...
- Summary
Chapter 1; The Young Man of Planet Zi
Young protagonist Van Flyheight has narrowly escaped from the local wild zoid and finds himself in an old ruin. With a busted hover board and no where to go, he begins to rummage for parts only to unveil a doorway that's been knocked loose by the attacks. Inside he finds a capsule, and within a silver organoid that will change his life forever.
Unfortunately, before the two can become acquainted, they're attacked once more by the Wild Zoid that had been pursuing Van. They must settle their differences fast, or face annihilation by the zoid that plagues them.
Chapter 2; The Young Man and the Black ZOID
Immediately after returning home, Van makes several attempts to impress the locals with his new found wild zoid. Unimpressed, however, the villagers shrug it off as a useless pet, bringing agitation to Van. It takes a reminder from a young girl and her tame zoid to knock some sense into Van, and remind him not to push Zeke or exhaust him by trying to impress his neighbors.
As Van is roaming the village he spots a young man standing by his Father's Command Wolf, Zeke, a zoid that had long since died, and has since then protected his Father's grave. After an attempt at idle chatter, Van is shocked to hear that this kid has an utter disgust for Zoids, and to add shock to the situation, a massive Zaber Fang zoid from the Guylos Empire strikes the old Command Wolf and begins an assault on the village.
It's up to Van and Zeke to stop this monstrous beast before it can destroy the entire town, but they won't do so without resistance, for Raven and his Black Organoid are entering the frey to make things difficult.
