The above concepts show off Collins' core character design. |
At one point, Collins' thought back fondly on his younger days. He said that the sunset reminded him of the sunsets on Planet Zi. He mentioned having flown around in his unnamed black Zoid, and it was noted that he'd been known for disobeying orders so that he could prolong his promotions and continue to fly.
When the fossil of the Genospino was discovered, Collins took charge of the project. He introduced Christopher Giller, the most promising young pilot of the Empire to Dr. Frank Land, who was carrying out the restoration. He tasked Giller with protecting Land and his operations at all cost, and in exchange, Giller would be given the honor of piloting the Genospino once it was completed. He and Dr. Land felt that if the Zoid could be restored, they could put an end to the conflict with the Republic. Effectively, the Genospino would end any conflict they tried to start.
Collins relapsed from a chronic illness. He was able to speak to Giller one last time, taken to the rooftops to look over the city, in spite of struggling with the air quality. This would be their last meeting, as afterwards, Collins passed away. His task as head of the Genospino project passed on to Jonathan Siegal, who would view the project through a much more sinister lens than Collins had intended.
