History

Direct Hit, Episode 61

While Krueger was younger, serving as a lieutenant in the Republican Army, his Zoid took a direct hit. He dragged himself through the desert for ever a week having suffered severe internal injuries and more than 10 broken bones. He was eventually rescued by Dan Freiheit.

Simulation Test, Episode 35

When Krueger was young he was a soldier in the army alongside Bang's father, Dan Freiheit. They'd both competed for the honor of passing a combat simulation test which at the time hadn't been beaten by anyone. Both felt they were the better pilot, but on the night prior to the test they went out and got into a fight with other soldiers, landing them both in jail on the day of the test. In the end, neither had passed thanks to this poor decision.

First Appearance, Episode 14

When Krueger first appeared in the show he found weapons designed for the Gojulas being installed to an unfamiliar Command Wolf. At Dr. D's suggestion, Irvine had received the Spread Missile upgrade. Though he didn't understand why such a heavy upgrade was being installed to a light-weight, high-speed Zoid, he didn't question Dr. D's plan.

Near Mobilization, Episode 15

As Krueger evaluated the battle situation he decided he'd command from the front lines in the Gojulas. The individual at the base was still experimental and untested but he was certain it would be more than sufficient. When Irvine broke into the base looking for heavier weaponry they struck up a conversation. For a moment, it seemed like he might even offer Irvine the chance to pilot the Gojulas, but when the base was struck by gun fire and part of it collapsed, Krueger was injured and no longer able to pilot the Gojulas.

Mt. Ossa Base, Episode 17 ~ 18

While evaluating the combat situation, knowing that the Empire was invading by sea and about to land right on their coast, Krueger made the decision to abandon the Mt. Ossa Base. This decision didn't come lightly; it was an incredibly valuable defensive position. However, if the Empire landed in New Helic City and took the capital, there'd be no point to defending Mt. Ossa.

After evacuating the base he decided to stay behind, intending to be the last man who pushed the self destruct button. Though Moonbay and Fine tried to talk him out of it, his mind was made up. Fine, however, had more than words. She had a frying pan. After knocking out Krueger they put him in the Pteras and fled the base. When he awoke he tried to take control of the Zoid mid-flight and turn back, only to be knocked out again.

Finally coming to his senses after the second incident, Krueger changed plans. He urged them to use the Pteras to bomb the caldera of Mt. Ossa. If they could trigger an eruption it would override the combat systems of the enemy Zoids, forcing them to retreat. They followed through with the plan, and while at first it didn't succeed, more Zoids showed up to help. Though Krueger's Pteras had been shot down by Raven's Saber Tiger, Bang kept the Zoid's attention off of them, allowing everyone on board to survive. Ossa eventually did erupt.

Retirement, Episode 35

Krueger made the decision to retire after a long career. The war was over, and he'd been training Bang Freiheit for the past year, promising to turn him into a real Zoid pilot. When Bang confronted him about his choice to retire, he told Bang the story of him and Dan failing the simulation test. The challenge had now been passed by Bang, and Krueger felt that he'd taught the boy everything that he could, retiring the next day.

Shortly after, during a meeting with the heads of the Republic, it was decided to start a specialized task force that would hunt down rebels using Zoids for evil purposes. Krueger directly asked Bang Freiheit to be a part of this unit, to which he agreed.

The Ultra Saurus, Episode 60

As both militaries withdrew from New Helic City to escape the Death Stinger, Krueger was excited to announce where he'd been all this time. As it turned out, the Ultra Saurus, which had been discovered with development starting 10 years prior was a final weapon to be used by the two armies to fight a common enemy. They'd agreed to make it a joint project between the two nations a year earlier, the same time that the Guardian Force had been established, and right after Krueger's retirement he had moved on to lead the project. During the battle against Hiltz's forces, however, he fell and received a nasty head injury. In the chaos he passed the position of commander of the Ultra Saurus on to Hermann, feeling that he was the one who could truly make the miracles they needed a reality.
