The Mysterious Super-Colossal Zoid

The Shieldliger Surprise Attack Operation (ZAC 2043)







 In ZAC 2043, an incident occurred that would dramatically change the Republic's fate.

 It all began with a single truck. The Republic commando unit, the Blue Pirates, attacked an Imperial Army truck loaded with parts for an unprecedentedly massive Zoid.







 "These aren't just any parts!"

 Realizing the gravity of the situation, the captain of the Blue Pirates reported the incident back to Republican Army HQ.

 An investigation team was immediately dispatched to the site, conducting a thorough, sleepless night-time investigation. The true identity of the parts had to be discovered before the Imperial Army became aware of their attack on the truck. A 30 kilometer radius around the truck was barred for all troops.

 Of course, the strongest troops were stationed there to prevent the enemy Imperial Army from approaching. Everything was being carried out with the utmost secrecy.

 A state-of-the-art, high-speed computer was brought into the middle of the desert where these giant parts had been discovered. Their shape, size, what type of metal they used, and other data about the mysterious parts were punched into the computer, which processed a blueprint of the mysterious completed Zoid.

 What the computer produced was the form of a gigantic dinosaur Zoid, far surpassing the Zoid Gojulas.

 The Republican Command HQ was filled with shock and fear. The Shieldliger and the Command Wolf's active forces had somehow managed to hold back the Imperial Army's fierce attack, but an attack from an even more powerful new Zoid would completely destroy the Republican Army.

 "No matter what, we mustn't allow this giant Zoid to be completed."

 The Republican Army thus launched a secret operation. The attacked truck was repaired to its original condition, and the remains of the attack were wiped clean. A small transmitter emitting special radio waves that only the Republican Army could receive was hidden somewhere inside the truck. All that remained was to wait for the Imperial Army to discover the missing vehicle.

 Two days later, the Republican Army's high-performance antenna picked up a special radio signal transmitted from across the border. The transmission originated 100 kilometers north of the Imperial city of Darius, where an Imperial Army research facility had been constructed. They believed the mysterious enemy Zoid was hiding there.




 "Dispatch a surprise attack force to the enemy research facility and destroy the giant Zoid."

 The High-Speed Mobile Squadron, commanded by Col. Ericsson, received the order to deploy. It was a dangerous and difficult mission, penetrating deep into enemy territory. A group of Shieldligers and Command Wolves crossed the Central Mountain Range under the cover of darkness.


 The Shieldligers and Command Wolves advanced through rugged mountainous terrain, inaccessible to other Zoids. After continuing their mission through the night, the republic forces arrived at an energy supply point before dawn. However, they'd encountered an Imperial Dimetrodon patrol at the location...

 "It'd be a royal pain if they leaked information about our plans. We'll have to wipe them out in a single go."

 A large amount of chaff (silver foil) used to block communication signals was scattered into the night sky. At the same time, the Shieldligers and Command Wolves all began to move at once. They closed in at breakneck speed, Col. Ericsson's skilled subordinates attacking silently. The Dimetrodon disappeared into the darkness before it could ever even fight back.

 While Col. Ericsson waited at the supply point for the Salamanders' arrival, at the research facility that he planned to attack, 2nd Lt. Toby Duncan had been summoned to the Commander's office.

 "2nd Lt. Duncan, we've lost communication with the Dimetrodon unit west of this facility. They may've come under enemy attack. If so, the enemy's target is likely this facility."

 "Let me take this mission. I'll pilot the new Zoid and show you how to destroy the enemies."

 The commander placed a hand on 2nd Lt. Duncan's shoulder, who held his breath.

 "Toby, you have a more important mission. Don't waste your time with enemy raiding parties. Listen carefully: You're the Empire's top pilot, our 'Top Hunter', and this new Zoid is our trump card for victory."

 The Commander relayed his orders in a stern voice.

 "2nd Lt. Toby Duncan. You are to board the new Zoid immediately and rendezvous with the special unit 'Skeleton.' Your final attack destination is here."

 The location that the commander indicated on the map lay beyond the border, the Republic's capital city. 2nd Lt. Duncan stared at the map. The Republic's capital! If he went there, he'd certainly find that Ultrasaurus marked with an E!! 2nd Lt. Duncan's eyes lit up as he returned a salute. Little did he know that the enemy he sought out in order to avenge his brother would attack that very research facility in a matter of hours.







 At dawn, the Salamander, converted into a transport type, finally flew in. Kicking up a fierce dust cloud, it hovered precisely above the surprise attack force and pumped reinforcing energy through thick pipes. This was the first aerial resupply operation for either side.

 Col. Ericsson's unit, having received their resupply, attacked the Imperial research facility with overwhelming force.

 "Ignore the enemy garrison. Break into the facility and find their new Zoid!"

 However, the Imperial Army, having anticipated the Republican unit's surprise attack had already set up a defensive line, blocking Ericsson's men from approaching the facility.

 "Leave the enemy Zoids to me. Quickly, quickly, get to the research facility!"

 As Col. Ericsson slammed into an Iron Kong, knocking it down, an explosion violently rocked the earth. The Command Wolves looked up in stunned silence. In the end, the Imperial garrison had blown up the research facility themselves, to protect the secrets of the giant Zoid.






 Nothing remained of the research facility but scorched ruins, save for the enormous footprint of an enemy Zoid.

 "We let it slip through our fingers again."

 Bitter memories of the Imperial Capital and of Valecia base came flooding back to Ericsson's mind.

 "Mission over. All personnel, withdraw."

 Ericsson gave the order, his voice hollow.
