The official side story "Zoids Wild EX-ZERO", which depicts a time before the TV anime series "Zoids Wild ZERO", is currently being carried out. This HJ (Hobby Japan) original story, along with examples of Zoids, will depict the war from the viewpoint of the Republic and the Empire, and their respective military personnel. - Chapter 1: Prologue
Aasss expected, Empire, your firepower is absurd, just absolutely amaaaazing!
Desolate plains spread out at the base of a huge dormant volcano.
Today, gunshots could be heard from the Zoids Training Range connected to the Empire's top-secret military base, the Jifsan Ground Arsenal. They'd excavated a large number of buffalo Zoids, leading to the Empire's decision to go to war. Final adjustments were being made to the mass production armaments. As the three buffalo Zoids simultaneously fired the 9-barrelled cannons equipped to their backs, blazing columns rose up in the area surrounding the targets ahead of them. One after another they disappeared into the flames. Imperial Army technicians analyzed the situation from a temporary tent set up behind the test-firing Zoids. Their expressions were concealed by masks, so it couldn't be said for sure, but everyone seemed equally satisfied.
"Great, with this kind of firepower we can finally defeat the Republic."
"So long as they control this planet, there's no way that we can achieve true peace."
"I've heard that this unit was named the Cannon Bull."
The conversation was full of excitement. However, it was because of their excitement that they'd let down their guard, overlooking the presence of the Republican Zoid hiding behind them...
A blue lion Zoid was scouting out the testing grounds from the shadows of the hillside. The scars, both large and small which covered its entire body were unable to regenerate, telling the story of a warrior that'd fought many battles and had a strong bond with its rider. The rider was leaning half of his body out of the cockpit, located at the back of the head, and holding a mask in his right hand as he looked at the distant explosions through a monocle in his left hand. Immediately after, he threw the mask into the cockpit. His mouth, which was surrounded by stubble, suddenly relaxed and with a mischievous grin the man put the monocle back in his waist pocket.
"Aasss expected, Empire, your firepower is absurd, just absolutely amaaaazing! But I feel bad for those bull Zoids down there."
Two, three beats of applause. Then as he muttered, he returned to the cockpit and straddled the seat, turning on the communication device.
"Can you hear me, Reika? The info from our spider friend is a bingo."
"I can hear you, Captain Ryuu. Heh, yeah, that girl is turning out to be pretty important."
"She is, isn't she? I want her under my command."
"Hahaha what a joke— ... You are joking, right?"
"Of course~! But now's my chance. The plan—"
"I know, Captain, don't mess it up again!"
"Hey now~ That's no way to talk to your superiors~ I'll be going now."
The conversations held over the radio were nice and light hearted, with a certain degree of trust, and lacking the tension that typically preceeded a combat situation.
The blue lion Zoid, which had previously been laying down, quickly stood up and for just a moment its orange eyes glowed — The Rider, Technical Captain Shishio Ryuu, commander of the special task force of Republican units known as the "Blue Blood Squad" closed the canopy, furrowed his eyebrows, and making up his mind he firmly gripped the handle and twisted it, giving a shout.
"Let's go, partner! Armd Liger!"
The roar that the Armd Liger belted out in response sounded like a direct challenge to the Imperial Army.
On the other hand, the Imperial Army's three Cannon Bulls (final test types) who had now finished collecting the day's data, stored the still-heated 9-Barrelled Cannons in their backs, closed the bullet shields, and changed from their Machine Blast mode to a normal state. Immediately thereafter, the riders descended from their three Zoids. They were all quite happy with their abilities. Except for one person...
"Captain Heiner, with this overwhelming firepower, we can annihilate the Republican army once and for all!"
"Don't get ahead of yourself, Sergeant Knapp. ... Cutter, what about your machine?"
The rider was coming down a bit late, and mumbled calmly to the other two excited riders.
"... You're relying too much on firepower. It ruins the original abilities of this type of Zoid..."
Upon hearing this, Knapp, a junior officer charged up to Cutter.
"What was that? How dare you talk that way to Captain Heiner!"
"Now hang on a minute... Cutter, please let me hear a little more about your evaluation. All we've heard is that you're a test pilot sent to us by the top brass."
... Cutter didn't seem to listen, and continued talking in a cold voice.
"First off, the targeting; the hit accuracy is too low..."
"... And you, how is it that you can perform a Machine Blast without wearing a B-Resistant Suit?"
The conversation between Captain Heiner and Cutter wasn't going particularly well, and just when the captain had begun asking questions, an emergency alarm rang throughout the area.
"Enemy attack! Enemy attack! A blue lion Zoid of unknown affiliation has infiltrated our base... Ahh!"
The sprinting Armd Liger blasted away the temporary camp and charged! Its target was clearly the Cannon Bull!
"Hey, this is a top secret military base, what have the guards been doing!"
Knapp's scream was drowned out by the surrounding noise.
"Nevermind, we'll intercept it ourselves! Each of you, get to your Cannon Bulls!"
The Imperial Army riders boarded once again and started up their Cannon Bulls. Knapp shouted to them while checking over the instruments in the cockpit.
"Even though it's a lion type, this is three against one!"
The Z-O (Zoid Operation) Visor glowed red, and the Cannon Bull driven by Knapp reared up on its hind legs, and with a snort, it powerfully charged ahead.
"Wait! The Machine Blast tests have shown that the Cannon Bull is extremely exhausted. Be careful."
"Yes, sir!"
"All right, everybody fire at once!"
Two Cannon Bulls started firing the 3-Barrelled Missile Pods at their throats. However, for some reason, a single Cannon Bull seemed to refrain from firing... It was Cutter's machine.
Armd Liger quickly ducked side to side, evaded the gunfire.
"Cutter! Why didn't you shoot? Fire or we'll shoot you, too!"
Knapp's threat flew through the Cannon Bull's transmissions.
"... I wouldn't hit it anyway."
Cutter cut off communication with a blank expression on his face. The Armd Liger, on the other hand, was running at full speed and began its counterattack as soon as it got within range for it to use the small gun mounted under its throat, landing countless rounds against the armor of Knapp's leading machine. However, it didn't seem to do much damage.
"Heh, so that's all there is to the Republican Army's firepower! It's no match against the heavy armor of the Imperial Army!"
"Knapp, be on your guard!"
- Chapter 1: Prologue (Part 2)
You'd even involve the Zoids that are still alive!
For the first time on Earth... I'm really getting serious!
The next moment Captain Heiner braced himself, and the Armd Liger attacked the flank of Knapp's Cannon Bull with its sharp claws and fangs! ... Crr-rraash!!!
Knapp's Cannon Bull was hit at a high speed and fell sideways. The bull was thrashing around and trying to get up, but it couldn't stand up on its own, probably due to the excessive weight of its own armor. The Liger flipped upwards from the impact of the collision, whipped through the air, then turned the momentum of its landing downward to crush the head of the Cannon Bull with the claws on its front legs. The Z-O visor violently shattered. The Cannon Bull had lost its strength and stopped struggling.
"We won't take your life! Now, just sleep there!"
When Shishio shoutted this, the other Cannon Bull deployed its 9-Barrelled Cannons and set its sights on the Armd Liger from behind!
"Forgive me, Knapp! Control Trigger Release, Weapons Release, MACHINE BLAST!"
Captain Heiner, in his impatience, unleashed his immense firepower at a singular point from point-blank range, ready to destroy his own machine and even attack his subordinates if necessary.
Ba-ba-ba-ba-boooom! The sounds of the explosions and their shockwaves erupted in the surrounding area.
"Did we do it!?"
Heiner's Cannon Bull was half convinced of their victory, but in the next moment he felt a heavy impact land against his machine. It was the Armd Liger. The blue lion, sensing the Machine Blast, had in that next instant jumped on the back of the Cannon Bull as if in mockery of it.
"You'd even involve the Zoids that are still alive, let alone your own allies!"
Shishio's Armd Liger, seething with righteous indignation, violently crushed the 9-Barrelled Cannons from where it stood, causing them to explode. Amidst the explosions of flames, the heroic figure of the Armd Liger had instantly forced the two Cannon Bulls out of action.
"Damn, that was today's treasure, and I destroyed it myself..."
The last Cannon Bull, who'd been keeping its distance from Shishio, walked up behind him as he was still talking and scratching his head A strong laughter came from its cockpit.
"That was... interesting."
Saying this, Cutter quietly pressed the switch on a gadget that looked like a small radio. Then the explosives attached to the entire body of the Cannon Bull detonated, and seven or eight small explosions went off. The armor covering the legs and flanks was jettisoned. In fact, even the 9-Barrelled Cannons were ejected as a whole unit. At the same time, another small explosion flashed on the Cannon Bull's face, near the left eye of the Z-O Visor. Behind the scattered fragments of glass and the rising smoke, the Zoid's true eyes were exposed, and it glared sharply at the Liger, its intentions clear. It seems as if it had fully regained its wild nature.
The next moment, something mysterious happened. The entire frame turned red, and the armor was scorched to jet black. Part of the visor, which remained cracked, had also turned green.
"For the first time on Earth... I'm really getting serious!"
Cutter's left eye, hidden behind the long bangs covering half of his face, glowed red as if synchronized with his Zoid. The Cannon Bull, as if in response to his heightened fighting spirit, quickly changed color.
"Those colors..."
Shishio gulped when he saw it. It was obvious that this unit was different from the other two that he'd just defeated. However, his understanding just wasn't keeping up with what was happening in front of him. The two Zoids were within range of each other's heavy weaponry.
Yet, in spite of being within range — they didn't fire a single shot. It was as if the souls of both Zoids and their riders were resonating with their desire for combat. Just the rushing power of the now-lighter Cannon Bull was terrifying to imagine. Shishio's grip on the handlebars tightened involuntarily. On the other hand, Cutter, who'd been expressionless up until that point, smiled slyly, as if he'd found a worthy opponent. There was no fear of his own defeat, or even his death, just a ruthless smile filled with a madness as if he relished the fight.
The two Zoids who faced each other looked for an opening. The dust settled. At that moment, the two Zoids rushed each other! Cutter's black Cannon Bull kicked at the earth with its front legs and swung its ultra-hard horns, then charged! The blue Armd Liger on the other hand stood its ground, and didn't even try to avoid its charge! The two insane Zoids collided!
Crash!!!!
The Armd Liger was thrust into the air by the Cannon Bull's Ultra-Hard Horns!
The shoulder armor of the left front leg was destroyed and torn off, and the mane armor had sufferred a deep wound, but Shishio was unconcerned.
The Armd Liger flew through the air and twisted its torso. The Cannon Bull looked up at the sky to follow its trajectory. The Liger flipped around and landed at the tip of the Cannon Bull's tail! Cutter rushed to respond as he was caught from behind! The Shred Tail immediately lashed out, but cut the sky in vain. It was hopeless!
But then, in the next moment! The Armd Liger turned its back to the black Cannon Bull and ran in the opposite direction! Ahead of the Liger was the 9-Barrelled Cannon unit, the one that Cutter had jettisoned from his Cannon Bull. The Armd Liger snatched it up with its mouth.
"Okay, target secured! Let's get out of here! Reika!"
As he said this, Armd Liger threw the 9-Barrelled Cannon unit into the sky with a mighty swing. Then, breaking through the surface of the sand, the Catalga Cannon piloted by Reika, who'd been stealthily sitting in the depths of the earth, violently cracked through the ground with its drill jaws spinning. It was at just the right moment! With the sand violently kicked up into a thick cloud around them, she snatched the 9-Barrelled Cannon unit out of the air, and with a resounding thud, her Zoid dove back into the ground.
Cutter was stunned. By the time the cloud of dust had cleared, the Armd Liger had already jumped back ontop of the small hill ten meters away.
Shishio, leaning half way out of the cockpit, suddenly spoke through the speakers.
"You're a good rider, for the Empire! It's unusual for a rider to break his own Zoid's Z-O visor to arouse its natural instincts. I'd like you to be under my command!"
It wasn't a provocation, his intentions were genuine.
"... Are you making fun of me!? Don't run away!"
Cutter, regaining his composure, once again drove Cannon Bull forward in pursuit! However...!
Gasp!
The Cannon Bull fell head first into the ground. The ultra-hard horns pierced the earth, and it couldn't move anymore! He hadn't even realized that the arc knife had been shot as a wedge into his rear hoof, the Heavy Spike, rendering him unable to walk.
"Back there... he must have!"
Cutter went ballistic in the cockpit from his frustration.
"My name is Captain Shishio Ryuu of the Republican Army, and I'm in charge of the Blue Blood Squad! You're a brave Imperial soldier! I know you have your reasons, but you can come to me at any time! I'll be waiting!"
With that, the Armd Liger turned on its heel and fled the scene. Shortly after, a few Scorpear from the Imperial Army rushed over, but it was already too late.
"Why, why didn't he... kill me...?"
Cutter smashed the tank that he straddled in the cockpit. For the first time in his life, he felt a sense of defeat. His pride was hurt and he'd been humiliated.
After successfully escaping, Shishio opened communication with Reika again, confirming that they were both alive.
"I don't know if I could've won if I'd just kept fighting..."
"There was no pilot like that when I was in the Empire..."
"Come on, let's go back to the base! I'll meet up with you later, Reika!"
"Hey, you! You exposed your true identity to the Empire, and in such a loud way..."
Shishio laughed and turned off the radio as he ran into the sunset with the Armd Liger.
There was one other person who was watching this battle.
"That was an amazing fight. That blue lion Zoid, it defeated three of the Empire's latest Zoids..."
As she said that, she finished writing down a record of what she'd seen in the original copy of the "Zoids 3D Illustration Book" that she was in the process of compiling. As soon as she finished writing, she slammed the book shut and in a fit of anger she clutched the pen with all of her might. It almost seemed as if it would break, but it didn't.
"This lion rider. I'm sure of it, that's the man who stole my information! I won't forgive you... Shishio Ryuu!"
With that, the young rider boarded her pink Spideath, stowed away her Web Radar, then stood up and shouted.
"Let's go, my Pink Spidey! After that man and his liger...! AAAAHHH!"
Before she could even finish, the eight legs started running. The name of this girl, who was being thrown around by her favorite machine was Carol Chouchou. She seemed to be a self-proclaimed journalist... She had a Pink Spideath, which skittered past Cutter's Cannon Bull, which was still in a state of defeat, but Cutter didn't have time to worry about that.
"You just wait—! Blue lion! I'll definitely catch you—!"

Passenger: Shishio Ryuu
A mysterious lion Zoid that's like a missing link connecting the evolutionary process of the Wild Liger and Beast Liger. Its close combat skills are on par with other ligers. Because of the peculiar task of the unit it belongs to, which procures firearms and conducts experiments, flexible arms are connected to both sides of the unit so that it can carry out minor maintenance on its own. This is said to be the reason that it's called the Armd Liger.
Due to the pilot's maneuvering skills and nature, the unit is constantly wounded and its whole body is covered in scratches, while some of the armor is damaged.
Originally there were three Mane Claws, but the center claw was destroyed in a previous battle and has never regenerated, leaving just the two on the sides. The gold Mane Claws of the Beast Liger have also been replaced with a heavy weapon (a hidden gun). As the name of the Blue Blood Squad suggests, the armor that covers its whole body is blue. Its appearance changes from time to time, depending on the procurement of firearms and armor, as well as the Liger's own growth.

Let's take a look at the Armd Liger that appeared in the first episode. It has become the main character of this side story, with extensive renovations made using two different types of ligers. In this example, weathering has been applied in various locations and the armaments have been heavily remodeled, all incorporating military elements while keeping the silhouette of the Liger. Now, we'll introduce the Armd Liger, the main character of "EX / Zero." It was made from the Beast Liger and Wild Liger produced by TakaraTomy. The base is a Wild Liger, but we designed it as an evolutionary step towards Beast Liger.
The additional equipment uses the Assault Boost Unit, a weapons modification set by Takara Tomy. The gun under the jaw is from a Kotobukiya weapons set. The area around the mane was scratched up with a dremmel to make it look like it had gone through several battles.
⬛ Emblem
Since the unit that the Armd Liger belongs to is a special task force, I wanted an original emblem, one for the Armd Liger and one for the Blue Blood Corps. So, I bullied the people at Nekodama studio into make them (laughs).

◄ I printed unit-specific original decals. The top one is the Armd Liger, and the bottom one is the Blue Blood Corps.
◄ The holes on the insides of the legs are filled in. The joints were converted into ball joints, to allow free movement.
◄ The decal of the Liger reflects its characteristic mane. Designed by Nekodama Studio.
◄ The Mane Claws are based on the Beast Liger. They've been weathered with chrome silver, to express the overall abrasions in the metal.
▲ The head and mane parts also use parts from Wild Liger. The eyes are red, and the caps are painted gold, the same color as the fangs. You can see the wounds quite strongly.

Armd Liger (Chapter 1 Spec.)

If you see missing paragraphs, that's because they're the same as in the magazine.Let's start with the lion Zoid, the Armd Liger that Shishio Ryuu of the Republican Army's Blue Blood Squad pilots in the first episode. Since it's the partner of the unit leader, its been heavily damaged and weathered to show its combat experience. It has arms qeuipped, with firearms in the claw and ball joints in the legs to allow for a little posing. This main character machine has been painstakingly crafted and painted.
The base model is the Wild Liger. The All-Weather High-Powered Boosters on the legs, Flexible Arms next to the Mane Claw, and other official modification weapons are installed to it.

◄ I made my own original decals exclusively for this machine. The top one is for the Armd Liger, the bottom one is for the Blue Blood Squad.◄ The original decals were applied to the left shoulder and the mane piece. The Liger decals reflecting the features of the mane piece and the unit emblem inspired by the band's logo.
◄ The Wild Blast state. The Mane Claw on the back is based on the Beast Liger's with a 1/35 scale model machine gun inside. Chrome silver was used for the chipping everywhere to express metal scratches.
Armd Liger (Chapter 1 Spec.)
Made using Takara Tomy's 1/35 Scale Plastic Kit Wild Liger / Beast Liger⬛ Armd Liger
The model was created by mixing the Beast Liger and Wild Liger released by Takara Tomy. The main body is Wild Liger, but as if it's in the process of evolving into the Beast Liger, so various parts are used to include its design.
The holes in the legs and feet and other places were filled with Tamiya Epoxy Putty. Since filling in the holes couldn't create the shape of the feet all on its own, I also did some shaping. In order to widen its range of motion, I cut the ankle shaft, drilled a hole in it with a 4 mm pin vise, and attached a ball joint through the shaft. Although this is a somewhat aggressive modification, it makes the legs have a Figure 8 shape, lowering the center of gravity and making it look even cooler.
The additional equipment is the Assault Boost Unit from Takara Tomy's official customize parts. The gun under the chin is borrowed from one of Kotobukiya's M.S.G. weapon sets.
I added scratches around the mane using a dremel to give it the appearance of having been through many battles.
¦ Emblem
Since this is the first chapter, I wanted an original emblem for the special forces unit that Armd Liger belongs to, so I asked Nekodama Kobo to make emblems for the Armd Liger and the Blue Blood Squad.

It's basically the same as other Cannon Bulls, but the mysterious test pilot Cutter, who was sent by the top brass is reluctant to adopt the current military policies, and prefers to emphasize will power and instincts, which are the root of a Zoid's original fighting strength. The brainwashing Z-O Visor covering the eyes has been destroyed, exposing one eye. Additionally, immediately following the Lieutenant entering the cockpit, every Zoid he's piloted has changed the color of its bones to red while its armor naturally dyes black, so they become instantly recognizable as one of Lieutenant Cutter's dedicated machines.
During the attack by the Republican Blue Blood Squad, after recognizing that the Armd Liger that he was confronted with was a strong opponent, he discarded the 9-Barreled Cannon to reduce the weight of the unit. Against the the liger, which boasts a high-speed run, his bull's charge succeeded in destroying part of the liger's armor using the super-hard horns.

In EX-ZERO, this is the Cannon Bull that is piloted by the hero of the Imperial Army, Cutter. It's packed with remodeling highlights, including a color change, custom brushed details, and most notably, the cracked Z-O visor.⬛ Cannon Bull
The lense over the Cannon Bull's eyes has been broken. I made the holes using a pin vise, and did further cutting with a design knife, but had to be careful while working because the plastic is pretty hard.
The super-hard horns of the Cannon Bull were also filled with epoxy putty.
When it came to painting, I painted the bones using Votoms Color's Bloody Red. The rest of the body is painted with NAZCA's Frost Black.

The exclusive machine ridden by the other main character, Cutter of the Imperial Army, shares the common feature of having one eye exposed. For the first chapter, the Cannon Bull's visor from the head armor was hollowed out and shaped to look like broken glass.
There was also a blue Catalga with the Blue Blood Squad decals applied. Carol's Spideath is pink and unarmored, made to look like a heroine.

Cannon Bull's eyes have a broken lense. The hole was made with a pin vise and shaped with a design knife. On top of that, like the Liger, the horns and legs were filled with Epoxy Putty.
For painting, the bone parts were painted with Votom Color's Bloody Red. The rest of the body was made with NAZCA's Frost Black. Made using Takara Tomy's 1/35 Scale Plastic Kit Cannon Bull

Catalga Cannon's pilot Reika Rin was originally a soldier of the Imperial Army. This unit was a prize of war, whose life was saved by Shishio in an earlier battle. Afterwards they escaped with the Catalga that belonged to the Empire.
Its basic performance is equivalent to that of a normal Catalga, but with an extensive radome on the back for intelligence operations. At the time of the battle, the A-Z 2-Barreled Cannon, which was originally equipped to the unit, had to be removed since it planned to dive underground prior to the battle. The towing carrier was also left behind with their fellow allies.
Like the other Blue Blood Squad unit, this unit is painted blue.

Following the Armd Liger and Cannon Bull, Kyosuke Ozawa also worked on the Catalga Cannon of the Blue Blood Squad, which appeared in the first episode (in the previous section), as well as the Pink Spideath piloted by Carol. Although they only appeared in text format, we'll go ahead and introduce these special examples! ⬛ Pink Spideath
Affiliation: Civilian
Passenger: Carol Chouchou
A privately owned Spideath that's been painted pink with the intention of camouflage. Because it's a civilian machine its venom has been removed, and a limiter has been applied for safety to prevent it from Wild Blasting, but otherwise its performance is equivalent to that of a normal Spideath.
The pilot of the unit, who calls herself a journalist and a Zoids researcher, dreams of traveling the world for stories in this unit, but her maneuvering skills as well as the trust between her and her Zoid aren't well established yet, so her travels have thus far been pretty scattered and she stands out on the battlefield. She herself loves the Zoid and treats it with care, but so far that love is unrequited.

Perhaps because its been through several battles along with the Liger, its been given a little more weathering. The blue armor is accented with silver chipping.
Spideath:
The kit is straight with a lot of dirt and sand added using Weathering colors.

New products are appearing one after another with the TV anime Zoids Wild ZERO being aired. In November, two new products are lined up: The Genospino, a huge XL-sized Zoid, and the Gatling Fox, a medium-sized fox type Zoid! The must-see Genospino has a large carnivorous dinosaur motif. In addition, the long-awaited fox type Zoid anticipated by fans has a function reminiscent of units that were released in the past! In November, let's pay special attention to these new Zoids products.

Genospino is a spinosaurus type that appeared as the remains of a huge Zoid body in Zoids Wild ZERO. After appearing in the main anime, its vicious figure can finally be reproduced as a kit. The red structure with a black exterior is an inverse of the Death Rex's color pattern, and the light from the build-in LEDs is a gimmick that was also seen in the Death Rex. During the Machine Blast its height is about 21cm. The picture on the left is almost full size.
◄ It has an LED in the mouth. This emits light during its Machine Blast. The fangs are also finely crafted in the shape of a real spinosaurus.
► The skeleton is red and sinister looking. The body is made up of structures that resemble bone, like the parts along the sides and neck, creating a vivid biological look.
▲► During the Machine Blast, the giant chainsaw, the Geno Sauzer attached to the back jumps forward and rotates. I want you to be able to experience the gimmick of the Geno Sauzer jumping out the moment that you press the switch on the back.

Within the Republic, the Gatling Fox species is characterized by its dazzling silver color. If you're a fan from years prior, it's a cool design using the familiar combination of fox / gatling gun! The skeleton is also characterized by the translucent black molding color. During its Evo Blast, it also has a gimmick that spins the gatling on the back.
▲ The clear molding color for the skeleton is to give the image of its stealth function. The armor also has an optical camouflage function, so it seems like it has good stealth and intelligence.
► During the Evo Blast, the back gatling flips forward and rotates. This was originally a weapon from the Empire.
