This variant of the Storm Sworder was featured in the Zoids Guardian Force anime, where it was piloted by Irvine and Thoma on a mission to destroy the transporter of the Death Stinger. It was intended for high-altitude flight.

The Final Hope, Episode 58
Almost as soon as the Death Stinger awakened it took to the skies in a massive transporter, the Hammer Kaiser. It rose to such an altitude that it was far outside the reach of any conventional weapons. To meet this challenge the Republican Army equipped two Storm Sworders with recently-developed high-powered boosters. They allowed the Storm Sworders to climb to 90,000 meters, then they jettisoned the boosters to continue their flight as normal Storm Sworders intent on bringing down the Hammer Kaiser.

This incredibly high-powered booster was first tested in an environment where it ripped right off the body of a terrestrial Zoid (the Gustav), but finally found use on this mission. It allowed the Storm Sworders to climb to an altitude they'd typically never be able to reach, then disengaged, allowing them to carry their momentum even higher thanks to their keen aerodynamics.
