Story Information
Pilots: Introduction:
The Storm Sworder Ala Barone Spec. made up the first two Storm Sworders launched in the Zoids anime. They're distinguished by their unique wing patterns, while later model Storm Sworders had backwards-sweeping panel lines on the wings instead. The red of them and other Storm Sworders in the show is a beautiful flip coat that fades between red and black depending on the angle and lighting.  [1]

History

First Appearance, Episode 29

The Ala Barone was the first Storm Sworder to appear in the series. It was taken on a flight test by Rosso and Viola, disguised as Ala Barone (Wing Baron) and "The Sword of Storms". Though trusting them with the Storm Sworders was a peculiar choice, both Dr. D and Hermann vouched for their noble character. Dr. D even noted that it was they who had saved Rosso and Viola after their vicious battle against the Geno Saurer.

During the test flight the two picked up a transmission about Rudolph being sighted in Imperial territory. They'd already crossed the border and, much to Hermann's dismay they faked a communication drop and absconded with the two Storm Sworders. At Ebenei Air Base they clashed with the Black Redlers being used to hunt down the Blade Liger (which Rudolph was currently in) and destroyed several, giving Bang the opportunity to fuse Sieg to the Blade Liger and escape.

McMahon's Mansion, Episode 30

When Bang's group were threatened by Seepers, an Imperial soldier seeking to destroy the 'imposter' Rudolph, Rosso and Viola once more interfered. They took out the Black Redlers assisting Seepers in the battle.

Transporting The Prince, Episode 33 ~ 34

When Rudolph and Homalev were cornered by the Imperial Army, Rosso and Viola shot down many of the Rev Raptors forming the blockade. Viola then had Rudolph get in her Storm Sworder and flew him to Guygalos, where Prozen's coronation was under way. Rosso helped to keep the Black Redlers off their back, leading to his first true one on one with Ralph, thus beginning Ralph's long grudge against him.

Though Rudolph protested against Prozen's malicious plan, his former Regent proceeded to roll out the Death Saurer. The Storm Sworders were put into battle with new ammunition; spears intended to fire into the particle intake fan and hopefully disable the Death Saurer's particle cannon. Viola's Storm Sworder was shot down, but Rosso succeeded. Unfortunately, the Death Saurer soon spun the fan with enough force to dislodge the spears anyway.

Sworder Dog Fight, Episode 45

When the Storm Sworder Stealth types were stolen from the Republic they developed a plan to strike back. Knowing the thieves would return to the base seeking the missing combat data, they arranged for Silver Pteras to be mobilized, but they couldn't compete with the Sworder's speed. They were quickly overwhelmed, and just before Moonbay's Pteras could be struck down, Rosso and Viola arrived. Viola's Sworder had its wing sliced off by Ralph's Triple S. Ralph was certain he could take down Rosso's machine as well, but even with the faster, more advanced Storm Sworder Rosso bested him in battle. He ducked the head blade just in time to flip his own Storm Sworder upside down, dragging its own head blade through the engine pack on the back of the remaining Triple S.

Rescue Mission, Episode 61

While the Ultra Saurus escaped the Death Stinger, Bang and Irvine were left on the battlefield fighting an army of Helcats. Not long after, the Death Stinger fired its particle cannon hoping to destroy them. Rosso and Viola swooped down and snatched them up with their Storm Sworders. As soon as they dropped them off they continued on to the Gravity Cannon development site, where the base was under attack by Black Redlers and Stealth Vipers. There they dispatching the enemies to save Rudolph.

The Mt. Iselina , Episode 63

When the Death Stinger was said to be heading for Mt. Iselina, Viola's home colony, she raced back in her Storm Sworder to try to save it. In the end, all she could do was take her little sister Rosa and two of the village children in her Storm Sworder, as the cockpit was just too cramped to save anyone else. The elder of the village stayed behind to give them that chance. Thankfully, most of the village was evacuated before the Death Stinger's attack.

- Notable Details

  • Though most Republic Storm Sworders switched to the standard design, the Storm Sworders seen in the hangar bays during Episodes 59 and 67 were actually Ala Barones.
  • Typically the Ala Barone has a custom wing design, but in Episode 61 they used the default design with straight lines on top of the wings and no details on the bottom.
