- Details of Design

Modular Design

During the NJR a lot of Zoids started introducing various forms of modularity, from Geno Saurer's nose guns to Spinosapper's advanced equipment outline. This Zoid is designed to serve three different equipment loadouts, one for excavation, one for clearing trees, and one for protecting against aerial enemies. Like the CAS this equipment is outfitted for different mission goals, and typically, the Spinosapper serves the role of a combat engineer with separate customize parts for anti-air.

- Military History

ZAC 2101, January, Rollout

The first unmentioned appearance of the Spinosapper was in the bombing of Nixie Base. It helped to defend the Ultra Saurus while it was undergoing its conversion from Destroyer to Carrier. For this task it used the 4-Barrelled Impact Cannon Set, a customize part to retrofit the Zoid for active combat.

ZAC 2101, Unspecified, Numerous Battles

As the Nyx landing operation was well underway numerous battles broke out across the Dark Continent, and Spinosappers were depicted among these battles using their chainsaws to cut down enemy Zoids. Which specific battle they took place in is unclear.

ZAC 2101, December, Invasion of Neo Zenebas

As Neo Zenebas landed on the coast of the Central Continent, Spinosappers were among the Zoids they faced at Cook Bay and Mount Asa Fortress (though it doesn't clarify which.) They fell quickly in the face of Berserk Führers and Killer Spiners.

- Notable Facts

  • The Spinosapper's name comes from a combination of Spinosaurus (its type) and Sapper, a word used for combat engineers who perform a variety of technical engineering missions during war situations.

- Equipment Information

- 115mm Machine Gun ×1

115 mm Machine Gun x1: 115mmマシンガン×1

The 115mm Machine Gun is at the lowest point of the belly and we can assume from its name that it has a high rate of fire. However, given its only a few feet off the ground, it's uncertain how effective it is in anti-Zoid combat.

- 180mm Multiple Launcher ×1

180 mm Multiple Launcher x1: 180mmマルチプルランチャー×1

This weapon is attached to the mid-section of the tail and rotates left and right. Unfortunately we have no idea what types of ammunition the weapon uses.

- 88mm Pulse Laser Gun ×2

88mm Pulse Laser Gun x2: 88mmパルスレーザーガン×2

The Pulse Laser Guns are stationed side by side at the back of the mouth. They fire energy rounds, which we can assume from the name. That aside, as a head armament they benefit from the Zoid's full range of motion. A weapon that's free to target wherever the Spinosapper is looking and dispatch enemies with swiftness. Mouth armaments aren't that common outside of the Geno Saurer series so it's a nice detail.

- Laser Chainsaw ×2

Laser Chainsaw x2: レーザーチェーンソー×2

The Laser Chainsaws is the 'standard' Spinosapper equipment. They attach to the Multi-Operation Arms for articulation. While nobody in their right mind wants to go toe-to-toe with a chainsaw wielding maniac, these weapons also double as engineering equipment, clearing forests to make a new route for its allies.

- Laser Excavator

Laser Excavator:

The Laser Excavator, an often misunderstood piece of equipment serves as an option part that replaces the Laser Chainsaws. Like the chainsaws, they rely on the Multi-Operation Arm for their articulation. While stowed, the weapon folds in half and rests on the Zoid's back, forming the spinosaurus sail.

When needed, the two halves, each attached to one of the arms rotate forwards and lock together. The Spinosapper stabilizes this weapon by holding onto a bar railing that attaches to the back of the new-formed dome. The device spins at a rapid speed, lit by the two spotlights on top while it bites into walls and rock, boring a hole through which other Zoids can enter. This high-powered drill can also be used to break up rocks and other obstacles.

- Multi-Operation Arm ×2

Multi-Operation Arm x2: マルチオぺレーションアーム×2

This equipment deserves note on its own as it's a highly diverse item. It's used to attach the Spinosapper's armaments and connects at the collar. It can rotate forwards and backwards at the connection point, in the middle, and at the cap on the end. In addition, the section with the two caps side-by-side can rotate 360 degrees, giving its equipment a huge range of motion.

- Strike Claw ×2

Strike Claw x2: ストライククロー×2

In the event that the Spinosapper comes face-to-face with an enemy Zoid, the Strike Claws serve as melee equipment. Like its other weapons, however, they're dual purpose. Spinosappers are also used in construction, and may use their claws as manipulators in the process of building bridges and even frontline bases to help advance their army.

- Featured In Media

- Zoids

The Spinosapper featured in an episode of New Century /ZERO where a local gang took advantage of cocky Zoid pilots by challenging them to prove that they were the strongest. When they arrived at the specified remote location they'd strike the Zoids down with their Spinosappers and chop them up for parts.
