- Details of Design

Prototype

The first sighting of the Saber Tiger AT was this prototype, which sported jet black armor and a custom weapons arrangement.

The antenna was moved to the right side of the Energy Tanks and the Beam Gun to the left side, with the two remaining guns (from the standard Saber) moved to either side of the 8-Shot Missile Pod. The original Saber Tiger's back weaponry was also retained in this form, equipped between the wing stabilizers.

This was the prototype used as a test against the Geno Saurer.

- Military History

ZAC ~2100, January, Development

The first in large high-speed Zoids, Sabre Tigers once struggled to compete with the Republic's later Shield Liger, leading to them being upgraded to the Great Sabre. However, production costs made this Zoid hard to maintain, and after the Guylos Empire overhauled the base Sabre Tiger, launching a new model known as the Saber Tiger, the new standard Zoid rose to the same comparable strength as the upgraded form. Though it was reverted back to standard equipment to help with the cost issue, it still performed admirably on the battlefield. Nevertheless, fighting on the Western Continent continued to intensify, and it was soon necessary to introduce upgrades once more.

Discussions about how to fight the growing war grew among the higher ups, and it was decided to hold a competition. On one side, upgraded Zoids including the Saber Tiger AT (an early test type with jet black armor) piloted by Sergeant Spantz and the Dark Horn GC, and on the other side, a new state-of-the-art machine made from the ground up to make use of the Organoid System, the Geno Saurer. Unfortunately, this test ended in disaster for the Saber. Its head was torn from its body and the test ended quickly, resulting in the immediate order to mass-produce the Geno Saurer.

Nevertheless, the Saber Tiger AT proved to have good overall mobility and power. Following these tests, roughly 600 ATs joined the army, making up a third of the Saber Tigers in service within Guylos.

- Notable Facts

  • Though the Saber Tiger AT was featured in the Zoids Battle Card Game, it actually reused the box art from the Great Sabre for both cards with the background changed to a moon for one.

- Equipment Information

- 8-Shot Missile Pod

8-Shot Missile Pod:

The largest weapon on the back assortment is the 8-Shot Missile Pod. When inactive, this weapon rotates backwards, stowed between the rest of the equipment. When activated, it flips upright, and fires over the Zoid's head, with up to 8 shots at a time. The Saber Tiger is able to maintain accuracy with these missiles even when traveling at speeds of over 250 km/h.

- Beam Gun

Beam Gun:

The Beam Gun is a blockier beam weapon attached to the right side of the upper back. This rests between the AEZ 20mm Beam Gun and the Small-Caliber Anti-Zoid Laser Machine Gun, both of which are retained from the standard Saber Tiger. It can rotate up and down.

- Energy Tank x2

Energy Tank x2:

The Saber Tiger AT is also equipped with two energy tanks, one on each side. Theoretically these would allow the Zoid to operate for longer and fuel its numerous energy-based equipment items, but they don't seem to have gotten any official description.

- High-Mobility Stabilizer x2

High-Mobility Stabilizer x2:

These two wing stabilizers are built into the back of the Saber Tiger AT unit, and likely aid in its overall balance and stability while carrying all of its heavy equipment. These can stand upright or fold out to either side when in use, though they aren't given much description.

- Stabilizer

Stabilizer:

The tail is equipped with another stabilizer that has a wing extending from either side. These attach to an armor plate that sits over the top of the tail, with the two TEZ 20mm Linear Laser Guns (from the standard Saber) equipped above it. The Laser Guns are still able to rotate up and down, though their angle is limited by the stabilizer itself.

- Other Weapons

The Saber Tiger AT retains some of the default Saber Tiger's equipment. For info on these, please check its profile.
