The Pteras Radome Special is, you guessed it, a Pteras with a Radome on its back. Its role is typically to run reconnaissance ahead of other Zoid units, checking enemy locations and for anything unexpected.

ZAC 2100, September, Targeting Assist
When the Republic began its decisive march against Europa to put an end to the Guylos Empire's influence there, they mobilized Ultra the Destroyer. This powerful behemoth could hit Zoids from over 100 kilometers away, and to assist it in firing over such a long distance, Pteras Radomes were mobilized to accompany the Destroyer Corps. They flew ahead and relayed the coordinates of the Ultra's target back to it, bringing devastation to the Empire.

Radome レドーム
Also known as the 3D Radome in the Saga games, the Radome unit on the back comes from the CP-13 Wild Weasel Unit. It's connected to an arm that's articulated with a hinge allowing for forwards and backwards movement at two different points, the base and the attachment bar for the radome. Assuming it works the same on Pteras as on the Gun Sniper, the unit contains a High-Performance Multi-Radar that not only offers early enemy detection abilities but also jams enemy electronic warfare functions. The radar functionality part is said to exceed the abilities of the Gator.
