The Megaleon is one of the Republic's super-small scale Zoids; units that are cheap to mass produce but have higher-than-average abilities. This particular machine specializes in stealthy ambush attacks and was developed specifically with homeland defense in mind, particularly anti-air combat.  [1]

- Military History

ZAC 2101, December, Defense of the Central Continent

After the capital of the Guylos Empire fell to Prozen, his son, Wolff Muroa invaded the Central Continent with the rest of the Eisen Dragoon unit. This kicked off the Neo Zenebas reign. By blitzing through enemy territory they rapidly approached the Republic's capital. Megaleons were one of the more successful units to fight back, making use of their stealth to shoot down opponents, in particular air units.

- Notable Details

  • Megaleon was said to be the most successful Republican Zoid during the invasion of Neo Zenebas. It was even theorized that if it had been mass manufactured just three months earlier that Neo Zenebas might not have succeeded in their blitz attack on Republican territory.
  • The Megaleon was the Republic's first super-small scale Zoid.
  • It's also said to have glaring weaknesses when it comes to mobility and maneuverability, but makes up for this with excessive power output, enemy search abilities, firing performance, and stealth abilities that far surpass a typical Zoid of its class.

- Equipment Information

- 3D Radar ×2

3D Radar ×2 3Dレーダー

The 3D radar is a parabolic antenna attached to the eye. In real life, the benefit of such devices is to project and detect extremely narrow beams of electromagnetic waves such as radio waves. This detects even faint signals at distance, which is excellent for enemy detection.

- Arm Catcher

Arm Catcher アームキャッチャー

The arm catcher's a rather morbid weapon; a tongue that shoots out of the mouth and snatches pilots in front of the Zoid. Considering its optical camouflage and stationary, defensive nature, this kind of attack could come out of nowhere. The eyes are attached to a winch, reeling the tongue back in towards the mouth as they spin. Whatever the fate of the captured soldier, it can't be good.

- Far-Vision Scope ×2

Far-Vision Scope ×2 遠視スコープ×2

One of the eye bars is a far-vision scope. Each of the eye gear items are x2 as there's one on each eye. Though the effects of this item aren't discussed, we can probably assume it's for better perception of far-away objects.

- High-Powered Optical Camouflage

High-Powered Optical Camouflage 高出力の光学迷彩

Possibly meant to just be plain 'Optical Camouflage' name wise, the Megaleon uses stealth to make up for its severe lack in mobility and maneuverability. It was developed for defense, so it can simply sit and wait, invisible to the enemy until they get too close.

- Infrared Scope ×2

Infrared Scope ×2 赤外線スコープ×2

The infrared scopes are another one of the eye gear items. The name implies that they allow the Megaleon to view enemies in infrared, detecting their heat signatures. This is especially ominous when combined with the Optical Stealth and Arm Catcher, used specifically to target people.

- Pulse Laser Gun ×2

Pulse Laser Gun ×2 パルスレーザーガン×2

The Pulse Laser Guns are a basic piece of equipment attached to the tail. As their name implies, they fire energy rounds. The connection point allows them to rotate up and down.

- Twin Energy Cannon

Twin Energy Cannon ツインエネルギー砲

This hidden weapon is typically stowed in the back. It works in conjunction with the three different types of detection devices in the eyes to detect enemies and respond to attacks from any angle. When it's time to attack, the back opens up and the gun deploys, with two gunners seated in the turret. The extendable arm allows the gun to be angled up or down.

- Media Appearances

- Zoids

The Megaleon also appeared briefly in the Zoids Galaxy Quest Planet Zi manga, where it was the first Zoid of one of the main characters, Guu. At the time he was acting as a village bully, intent on protecting the villagers from humans. When Kugo wouldn't leave, he threatened to crush him with the Megaleon only for Osanzo to fuse his Diloforce + Glaive Quama combo to it. Once under Osanzo's control, he just made the Zoid dance.
