Story Information
Pilots: Introduction:
  • Ril Meryl
The Gustav is a transport Zoid. Unlike many other Zoids it's often an independant unit, belonging to neither the Empire nor the Republic, and is regularly used as a civilian transport and work vehicle. It's a highly versatile machine with many custom configurations.  [1]

- Notable Details

  • The Gustav is said to have the hardest exoskeleton of any life form on Planet Zi.
  • In spite of its incredible defensive abilities, Gustavs rarely serve in battle because they're considered too docile to be suitable for active combat. That being said, combat spec. Gustavs have been considered, relying on large gun turrets to make up for its otherwise lacking combat abilities.
  • Because of its status as a transporter the Gustav rarely, if ever, gets the spotlight in the Zoids Battle Story. Even so, it's considered a widely used transport, not just for the military but for civilian use as well. It's kind of just assumed that you'll see them all over the place.

- Equipment Information

- Explosives Detection Sensor

Explosives Detection Sensor 爆発物感知センサー

The whiskers of the Gustav are sensors to detect explosives hidden in the ground. They move as the Zoid does, scanning the surface. This is an especially important task as many Gustavs transport through active war zones and need to be able to know if there are hidden landmines and such.

- Omni-Directional Radar

Omni-Directional Radar 全方位レーダー

The Omnidirectional Radar is the tall antenna sticking out of the front of the shell. As the Gustav moves along this radar spins, picking up information from all directions. What exactly it detects isn't given much info.

- Trailers

Trailers

Gustavs have the ability to haul optional trailers, each installed with caterpillar tracks. These trailers are highly versatile. They're often depicted in the shows as carrying large concealed trailers, can be loaded with cargo containers or Zoids themselves. They can be chained together to haul numerous trailers, and each trailer has numerous connection points that can be used to install any manner of additional equipment such as maintenance arms and refuel towers.

- Impact-Resistant Shell Armor

Impact-Resistant Shell Armor 耐衝撃シェルアーマー

The Gustav is an interesting case because the only model kit released for the NJR was the pilot-custom Moonbay Spec., which meant that the Gustav never got fully updated stats like many other OJR Zoids. The shell was specifically mentioned on the MS, and since they're visually the same it's being treated as standard equipment here. This shell is said to be incredibly powerful, and while the Gustav doesn't typically have any offensive abilities its overwhelming defense contributes to its viability as a transporter.
