Story Information
Pilots: Introduction:
The Blade Liger BS is the variant piloted by Bang Freiheit. Its status as a variant is a bit interesting because in this Liger's respective media it's the sole individual of the Blade Liger species, unique entirely unto itself. For all intents and purposes it's the default of that universe, but since the games and models make the distinction of this being an individual variant, and the rules of its universes are radically different from Battle Story lore, it gets its own entry here!  [1]

Custom Details

It's not uncommon for the CG models used in anime to make design changes from the model kits, sometimes mild, sometimes radical in nature. In the case of the Blade Liger BS, its main notable differences are the cheesy color-rich gold blades and claws, five E-Shield generator blades on the top of the head instead of four, and two pipes on the front of the legs instead of one. There are other minor changes such as a solid tail without gaps, but they're likely just mild design choices. Whether or not these are intended to be specifically custom to the Blade Liger BS is up in the air, but some products have chosen to respect these minor changes in the name of "anime accuracy" so they're being noted here.

History

Evolution, Episode 22 ~ 25

After Bang's Shield Liger was killed, the Shield Liger turned to stone. Sieg himself was rendered unconscious until, one night, the Organoid awoke and fused to Fine, taking them both to the Shield Liger's Zoid Core. This triggered a vortex of light to engulf it. Stinger recognized that the light was caused by an Organoid and tried to hold members of the group hostage. When Bang tried to interfere, he was struck by a blast from Stinger's Saber Tiger, and flung into the vortex. There, he was able to communicate with Fine, and awaken the Blade Liger. It took no damage from the Saber's weapons and quickly dispatched the Zoid with the laser blades.

* This history is a shortened version focused on major battles only. For a full in-depth version, please see the dedicated anime profile.

Fight Against The Geno Saurer, Episode 33

Bang once again faced off against Raven's Geno Saurer when it stood in the way of him getting back to help Rudolph, who was under attack. One of the Laser Blades was snapped off and the Liger beaten down until Sieg defused. Fine herself was even thrown from the cockpit. When Bang heard the voices of his friends urging him on, he brought the Liger to stand again. Sieg refused, healing the Liger's injuries. The Laser Blades, used in conjunction with the Shield broke through the particle beam and impaled the Geno Saurer through the mouth. The beam seemed to backfire, and the Geno Saurer went up in flames, with Raven bailing out just in time.

Defeat of the Death Saurer, Episode 34

After defeating Raven's Geno Saurer, Bang rushed to the capital where the Death Saurer had already been mobilized under Prozen's control. It was a joint effort between both armies to weaken the Zoid until the Blade Liger was able to charge forward and punch through the Zoid Core with the Blade Attack, once again making use of the particle-neutralizing shield to reach the enemy.

The Brainwashed City, Episode 37

When an entire archeological group went missing Bang went to investigate. There they discovered a mysterious Ancient Zoidian girl, Rease, who had taken control of the minds of the pilots and Zoids alike. The Blade Liger had to defeat her Double Sworder and drive her out of the city to restore the people back to their normal state.

The Revived Geno Saurer, Episode 44

After Dr. D realized that he could upgrade the Blade Liger's energy shield, bolstering its particle-neutralizing effects, Bang decided to fight Raven and his newly revived Geno Saurer. For a while, the battle went well. Unfortunately, the new shield failed when the particle cannon was combined with the rifles. Now out of energy, the Blade Liger was unable to move. Had it not been for the thick armor of Moonbay's Gustav, the Zoid would've died then and there. Fortunately for them both, Shadow forced the Geno Saurer to leave the field, beginning its evolution process soon after.

Attack of the Geno Breaker, Episode 50

With the Geno Saurer that defeated them even stronger following its evolution, the group decided to employ a tactical formation to pin it down. While this plan focused on destroying the foot locks and disabling the particle cannon, they failed to realize that the newly evolved Geno Breaker could fire its cannon from the air. Newly applied upgrades to the Saix rendered it immobile from a lack of energy, and Thoma's Dibison ran out of ammo. Having just watched an entire army of Zoids be wiped out before their eyes, Bang made the choice to draw Raven away from the fight. He attempted to use the same attack he'd used to kill the Geno Saurer, but its particle cannon was stronger than expected. The Blade Liger's shield couldn't hold, and the grievously damaged Zoid was flung down a canyon. Thankfully, it was later able to be recovered.

Battling The Psycho Geno Saurer, Episode 58 ~ 59

When Hiltz's army showed up, targeting Bang specifically, he chose to stay and fight them rather than accept the Storm Sworder mission. Near the end of this battle, with most of his allies defeated, he took on Rease and her Psycho Geno Saurer. This prolonged fight kept him from reaching the Republic capital during the Death Stinger's attack.

Battling The Death Stinger, Episode 63 ~ 66

The group rehashed the former Delta Formation to use as a large E-Shield generator, hoping to trap the Death Stinger and, ideally, pin it in place while the cannon was fired. Though they were successful in their efforts, the Death Stinger was revived by Ambient. It took the ground out from under the Ultra Saurus, jamming its ability to unload Zoids. Only the Blade Liger and Lightning Saix were available to pursue it after that. They eventually caught up to it, and with its E-Shield not yet functional, they dealt considerable damage. Their efforts were once again thwarted when the Zoid mysteriously dissolved into particles of light and disappeared, to appear later near the Zoid Eve.

They met again when Bang was heading towards the Zoid Eve. This time around, Hiltz felt much more comfortable fighting in his Death Stinger. The light of the Zoid Eve would heal its wounds and restore its strength. Yet, somehow, the Blade Liger continued to pull ahead. Bang stated this to be the true value of a bond between a Zoid and their pilot, insisting that they weren't just tools of war. He then sent Sieg ahead to Eveopolis to find Fine while he stayed behind to fight. Towards the end of their battle, the Death Stinger shined gold. The Zoid was undergoing some sort of transformation, and fled the fight to head towards Zoid Eve.

The Final Battle, Episode 66 ~ 67

At Eveopolis, the Death Stinger fused to the remains of an ancient Death Saurer, awakening a monster unlike anything they'd ever fought before. No Zoids attacks seemed able to penetrate the thick armor, and with the Death Saurer now free, Fine decided that the only way to stop it was to destroy the Zoid Eve. If Zoid Eve were gone, all Zoids on the face of the planet would die. Bang had one final plan, however. To fire the Blade Liger out of the gravity cannon. With its particle neutralizing shield, it could potentially get through the Death Saurer's particle beam, and with the force of the cannon, might be able to punch through the thick armor afterwards. Using this method, the Death Saurer was finally defeated once and for all. Sieg once more fused to the Liger and together they escaped Eveopolis before it sunk back beneath the ground.

- Notable Facts

  • In the anime the Blade Liger was evolved from the Shield Liger by the Organoid, Sieg, and was named by Dr. D. The name hadn't existed before then and the individual was entirely unique at the time.
  • With the help of anime physics, the Blade Liger manages to outrun even flying Zoids such as the Redler.

- Equipment Information

- Completion Refrigerator x4

Completion Refrigerator x4 コンプリッションリフリジェレイター×4

The leg armor at the top of each leg serves as a completion refrigerator. These large units absorb heat from the body to cool down the Blade Liger. Aside from their benefit to the Blade Liger's performance, in the anime, it vents these refrigeration units to create false heat signatures, deceiving a Stealth Viper hiding in the smoke by making it see multiple instances of the Blade Liger.

- E-Shield Generator

E-Shield Generator Eシールドジェネレーター

Like the Shield Liger, the Blade Liger possesses a powerful Energy shield. This is generated from the panels on the top and bottom of the mane. Although they're the primary generators mentioned in the stats, it's often portrayed with the white pieces of the mane lighting up as well, usually accompanied by crackles of electricity. The shield itself is a diverse weapon, able to charge and topple large-scale Zoids as well as taking multiple direct hits.

In addition, in the anime the Blade Liger's Laser Blades are able to extend through the sides of the shield without disrupting it. This allows it to land a devastating hit against enemy Zoids where the shield is used to protect it as it charges.

The shield also has limited use cases of eroding or burning away targets that've gotten inside the barrier. Basically, anything above the surface of the armor and below the barrier surface will be destroyed.

* As an aside, not all equipment items are listed in these profiles since they don't have anime-specific uses and effects.

- Laser Blade x2

Laser Blade x2 レーザーブレード×2

During activation a gold light surrounds the blades, extending a bit further than the blade itself. Laser energy used in melee combat allows weaponry to slice through the target with much greater efficiency than it otherwise could. They're also sometimes depicted with the energy extending far past the blade. In addition, the blades emit small electron impulse vibrations, which help to neutralize charged particles. When used in conjunction with the E-Shield, this allows the Blade Liger to tank particle hits to a limited extent.

- Pulse Laser Gun x2

Pulse Laser Gun x2 パルスレーザーガン×2

The Pulse Laser Guns are installed to the back of the Laser Blades. This gives them an excellent range of motion that isn't seen in other Liger types, and a much needed long ranged addition to the Blade Liger. Their rapid-firing laser shots are enough to take out small to medium scale Zoids, with the potential for anti-air fire. Thanks to their small size, there seems to be no impact on the cutting ability of the blades. Bang's Liger has a storage chamber in the body that contains containers, each holding a different gun that can be attached to the blades. These include the standard single-barrel rifle, a more robust laser rifle with a scope, and a 3-barrelled gatling gun.

- Rocket Booster

Rocket Booster ロケットブースター

Two large booster engines replace the Shield Liger's hidden gun. When needed for use the armor on the upper back flips upwards, and the boosters extend. Thanks to the rotational arm this means they can even turn sideways, helping the heavy Zoid with difficult maneuvers on the battlefield. Bang even used these to hover for several seconds or to instantly change direction.
