- Character Introduction

L.G. Halford was the commander of one of the high-speed units of the Republican Army in Official Fan Book 2. He was tasked with one of the most important missions of the Western Continent War: To destroy the ruins near the summit of Mount Olympus.

It has often been contemplated if he is the same Halford as the one that appeared in Zoids Guardian Force, since the series share several other characters (Rob Hermann, Irvine, Karl Lichten Schwarz, etc.) At this time however, there has been no confirmation of this, and the personalities don't really fit. Halford is rather noble in the books, but the anime Halford throws away the lives of countless soldiers without remorse. So, we've chosen to assume that they are different characters and excluded any images of the anime Halford. [1]

- Personality

Halford was a brave pilot, who took his mission seriously. He acted carefully and didn't give in to the sense of urgency that would've otherwise prompted reckless decisions. His entire unit took extreme risks to reach the summit of Mount Olympus. In the end, he made the ultimate sacrifice to protect his people from the terrifying enemy that had awoken there, the Death Saurer.

- Military History

ZAC 2099, August, Piloting the Shield Liger

Just as the Helic Republic's Europa troops were facing total annihilation by the Guylos Empire, surrounded on all sides by the Empire's small-Zoid troops, a mysterious Zoid broke through the net. It was the High-Speed Combat Force of the Helic Republic. Equipped with Shield Ligers and Command Wolves, they delivered a devastating blow to the Empire's plan to cut off escape routes, and enabled the retreat of their fellow troops. It came to a point that the Empire had to order their troops to bring escords of Red Horn and Air Force units.

During the course of the fight, L.G. Halford of the 2nd Independent High-Speed Combat Battalion was given specific orders to breeze past the battle and climb to the summit of Mount Olympus. His unit was to either gain control of the summit or to destroy the ancient ruins there, no matter the cost. He was assisted by all other forces of the Republic.

ZAC 2099, August, Piloting the Shield Liger

Halford recognized the challenge of climbing the massive 8,000 meter mountain. Before they had reached the mountain, the Empire had already landed on the other side. He chose a careful approach, climbing during the night, and hiding among the rocks during the day. However, the full moon made it hard to hide, and in the end, they were discovered by Stefan Skorzeny's Saber Tiger.

The Tiger proved to be superior to the old-war version. It moved with great speed and agility, downing a Command Wolf immediately, then leaping into the center of the unit to cause friendly fire among Halford's troops. Fearing how this would go if it were allowed to continue, Halford ordered his troops back and confronted the Saber Tiger himself. His Shield Liger was the fated rival of the Empire's Saber Tiger, but it couldn't deploy its weapons at high speed without intrefering with the machine's balance.

Halford activated his Shield Liger's energy shield, and when the Saber left itself open, underestimating the shield's power, Halford was able to drive the Laser Sabers into its neck and defeat it.

Halford's unit received notice that the summit had fallen under control of the Empire, so he urged his battalion forward to carry out their secondary goal: To destroy the ancient ruins, even if it cost them their lives. He lost half of his unit by the time they had finished their climb.

ZAC 2099, October, Piloting the Shield Liger

The Republic's frontlines collapsed. There was no longer any way for them to retreat, even if they wanted to. Half of his unit had made it to the ruins, and all of them were injured. As they looked down upon them, they witnessed a huge Zoid in the ruins. The Death Saurer. They intended to use the ancient technology housed there to revive it.

Halford gave the command to stop this resurrection. From the moment they'd received their orders, his entire unit had been prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice. The half-built Death Saurer sprung to life, its defensive instincts going into overdrive, and they charged in without hesitation. The rampaging beast attacked both Halford's Command Wolves, tearing many of them apart, and its own allies. It did not differentiate between friend or foe, and when the Death Saurer opened its mouth to fire the Particle Cannon, Halford could only try to protect himself with the shield.

In an instant, more of the Command Wolves were obliterated. Halford's Energy Shield hadn't been enough to protect him, and with half of his Liger's body missing, his Zoid was dying. They both knew the consequences of this result, though. If the Death Saurer escaped, it could mean the end of Planet Zi. As they got to their feet, the Death Saurer began to writhe in agony from the backflow of energy, caused by firing the CPC without a proper control device.

Halford seized this opportunity, and lunged for the exposed Zoid Core. His Liger's fangs caught the core, and as the Death Saurer's electromagnetic claws dug into his Zoid again and again, he closed the fangs around the core and crushed it. The Death Saurer, in its dying state, began a molecular break down. Halford and his Liger both perished in the resulting explosion, along with the ruins near the summit of Mount Olympus. Their objective was complete.

A single soldier of Halford's unit survived: First Lieutenant Tommy Paris, who was extracted along with the head (and analytical data) of his Command Wolf. They brought back technology that would form the basis of the Helic Republic's Organoid System research, and contribute to the victory of vital battles in the future.

ZAC 2099, October
When I was a new recruit, I was taught that a soldier's job is to die for their country. I have never told you that - because I think that people should die for what they believe in. But now, let me say this. If your beloved Zoids can move even a single finger, move forwards, even if you have to crawl. And chew up that thing's core!

(From a recorded transmission from Lieutenant Colonel L. G. Halford, commander of the Republic 2nd Independent High-Speed Combat Battalion)

- Issued Commands

To Lieutenant Colonel L. G. Halford, commander of the 2nd Independent High-Speed Combat Battalion. You are to take your force and move to gain control of the summit of Mount Olympus immediately. Furthermore, if gaining control proves difficult, you must destroy the ancient ruins at the summit, no matter the cost.

(From a directive from the Republican Europa Expeditionary Force General Headquarters)

    - Shield Liger

Halford's Shield Liger activating its Energy Shield in the fight against the Saber Tiger.
L.G. Halford piloted a Shield Liger as part of the 2nd Independent High-Speed Combat Battalion of the Helic Republic's High-Speed Combat Force. It was one of the units to aid in the Republic's escape, saving countless comrades. His Zoid fought bravely through numerous fights as Halford led his unit to the summit of Mount Olympus.

The Liger did not shy away from the Death Saurer when they finally discovered it in the ancient ruins. Instead it fought alongside Halford, who realized that they had a very limited window to act. The Liger received fatal damage from the Death Saurer's Charged Particle Cannon and was missing half of its body, including its left shoulder, rear leg, and part of its left flank. Even still, the Liger got up from this wretched state, and ripped the core from the Death Saurer's body before crushing it in its jaws.

Halford's Shield Liger died along with him when the Death Saurer suffered a molecular breakdown. This catastrophic event destroyed everything in the immediate area.
