Weapons Testing, Episode 56

When the academy was first shown they were in the middle of testing a number of equipment items, including testing the Booster Cannons on a Redler, testing a Grind Cannon on a Hel Digunner, a Wild Weasel Unit on a Gun Sniper, etc. They had also developed three Saber Tiger ATs that were programmed to follow remote combat commands using pre-determined instructions. This way, selecting a single command could control the Zoid's entire combat behavior. This would be used extensively in the Trinity Ghost project.

- Trinity Ghost

Introduction

The Trinity Ghost was a project from the Zoids anime, created by Alexander, Heinz, and Kurt of the Vash Coeard Academy, the institute responsible for designing most of the Empire's weapons. It was an elaborate setup involving electrical imaging devices, illusions, and misdirection to trick pilots into believing that they were fighting supernatural beasts.

- Notable Facts

  • The Trinity Ghost program functioned by using a combination of windmills and tiny transparent electrical imaging devices scattered in the grass of the surrounding fields. When a pilot would enter the area they'd be confronted by Saber Tigers and the projected illusion of three cartoonish ghosts, who the scientists would speak through. When they were ready to pass judgement, they'd fuse together in a flash of light that would be replaced by the image of a massive three-headed Saber Tiger. The pilots would default to believing their eyes and fire on the beast only for their shots to, most often, fire right through it. This was because the body wasn't real. It was a single Saber Tiger with a weapon pylon standing on its back to create the illusion that it was firing from the jaws of the giant illusion. The pilots, believing their target should be much higher, would fall for the misdirection and never come close to hitting the actual Saber Tiger behind the illusion.

The scientists would then execute any number of combat protocols, sets of commands used to direct the Zoids to behave in specific ways during combat to execute the pilots. If the situation became unfavorable they could freely change commands from the safety of their remote viewing vehicle, simply by clicking through them on their laptop.

- History

First Appearance, Episode 56

One day out of the blue, soldiers in the Imperial Army started being attacked by a group calling itself the Trinity Ghost. They'd be targeted while out on patrol and read a (usually extremely biased) verdict of their guilt within the Empire, often mocked by three cartoonish ghost apparitions that were projected into the air. Among their targets was Lieutenant Gale and his Iron Kong, as well as Thoma Schwarz and his Dibison. Once they'd taunted their target to meet at a pre-determined site, three Saber Tiger ATs would appear to confront them. In an instant, those Sabers would fuse into a single, massive Zoid that towered over even the largest land-based Zoids that the Empire had to offer. Their targets would be shot down almost instantly.

Their interest in Thoma came down to him mocking how immature their tactics and behavior seemed. While Thoma survived, he ended up in the hospital, unable to help in the field. Bang went to the site of the battle in his stead, finding small electronic imaging devices scattered throughout the grass among the windmills. Thoma began evaluating these, while Bang went to the Vash Coeard Academy to research the strange technology. After all, the transmissions being sent out were being sent through the military's own communications network.

He took quite an interest in all the Zoids currently under testing and Heinz showed up personally to greet him, along with Alexander and Kurt. He explained that they were interested in creating a program where the pilot was no longer necessary, but Bang insisted that the pilot couldn't simply be replaced. Later on, though Kurt expressed concern over why they'd visited, Heinz insisted that they had proof of nothing. He did, however, agree that they needed to eliminate Bang Freiheit as quickly as possible if they wanted their plans to succeed.

When they summoned Bang to the fields to face his judgement, they began executing commands to their pre-programmed Saber Tiger ATs from a remote vehicle. Heinz and Kurt largely took the lead on issuing commands to the Saber Tigers, but found all of their strategies to be insufficient against Bang Freiheit's Blade Liger. Once the Sabers had all taken damage Bang Freiheit charged the remote vehicle, only to be brought to a halt by the resounding roars of the tigers behind him. They'd suddenly stopped responding to commands all together. Instead, they threw off their weapons and fought based purely on their wild instincts. Though they were still defeated, they weren't killed, and made no attempt to leave the battlefield.

When Thoma showed up to arrest the group Alexander expressed his grievances over how they'd only done what they did to protect their research, and how they'd now have to start over. Rather optimistic, considering the likelihood of prison.
