- Notes

  • Liger Zero Schneider was the first CAS unit released for the HMM Liger Zero. Up until this point, it hadn't actually been decided if the potential CAS units would receive a armor-only release or not.

    - History of the Liger Zero Schneider

    - The CAS of the Imperial Army

At the end of the Western Continent War, the Guylos Empire began developing two new Zoids based on the a new concept, hoping to put an end to the endless arms race of combat Zoid development. The lion-type and the tyrannosaurus-type were selected for this project. For these machines, "perfect wild bodies", purebred species inhabiting the Western Continent whose Zoid Cores hadn't been artificially manipulated were used to create a "bare frame" that could reliably retain the original combat power of the machine beast. This body was equipped with an expansion system that allowed it to be modified with the latest equipment for every fight, so that it could adapt to the war situation several generations down the road. This function to improve performance through the exterior design was the CAS (Changing Armor System.) Of the two models, the tyrannosaurus prototype was introduced as the Berserk Führer for the Eisen Dragoon, a group that planned to restore the former Zenebas Empire. The birth of its successor, the Sturm Tyrann, proved that this plan was a meaningful one.

    - The CAS of the Republican Army

The lion prototype was captured by the Helic Republic Army during a battle, and based on this prototype, they succeeded in completing a machine of almost identical specifications, which became known as the Liger Zero. This prototype was also equipped with the same CAS functions as the original prototype, but unlike the original concept of the Imperial Army, it was used as an interchangeable armor unit that could be swapped to a specialized unit depending on the characteristics of the pilot or the situation at the time.

Three types of exchangeable armaments were prepared: The Schneider for melee combat, the Jager for high-speed combat, and the Panzer for artillery combat. Liger Zero was sent to the battlefield alongside a dedicated mothership, the Hover Cargo, which made it possible to instantly swap out these units on the battlefield. The Liger Zero was introduced as a dedicated machine for Liger riders, including the Leomasters of the advanced special forces, the Ray Force, organized for the invasion of the Continent of Nyx, where the headquarters of the Guylos Empire was located.

    - CAS Vs. CAS

On the other hand, even though the lion prototype had been captured, the Imperial Army completed a machine based on the remaining data and six months later they put it into combat under the name of "Zero." Later, based on this machine, they succeeded in creating the "Liger Zero X," a single, versatile Zoid with high combat power which was deployed in special units such as the "Phantom Unit" of the Eisen Dragoon. Like the Berserk Fürher, the Imperial Zero succeeded in exhibiting evolution by adding new equipment to its exterior, which was the original purpose of CAS. The combat Zoids called "Zero" had the same "bare frame" and although they had the same "CAS" function, they'd been given different operational concepts, and would meet on the battlefield under different flags.

    - Liger Zero Schneider

The Liger Zero Schneider is a high-speed melee form of the Liger Zero, equipped with five Rushing Laser Blades and two large Laser Blades as offensive equipment, as well as five E-Shield generators for defense. Furthermore, by adding four boosters / four thrusters / four sub-thrusters, it has attack, defense, power, and speed. As a result, Liger Zero has acquired a degree of combat power that could be called the ideal form of a high-speed combat Zoid.

However, on the other hand, the fact that both its offensive and defensive equipment relies entirely on energy has its disadvantages. Its Zoid Core supplies higher energy than the average Zoid, and even though it has a sub-generator equipped on top of that it can't keep up with the consumpion. On top of that, it generates so much heat that even the best cooling functions have problems, so it has the drawback of an extremely limited active combat time. Due to this limitation, it's the form that requires the most backup among the Liger Zero's CAS units from the dedicated mother ship, the Hover Cargo.

The CAS units are swapped out in the container block of the Hover Cargo within a few minutes after the "Installation System Call", a request from the pilot to retrofit the unit.

    - The Fighting Techniques of Liger Zero Schneider

In its Schneider form, the Liger Zero has succeeded in creating even more powerful tactics by combining a variety of armaments and equipment features not found in the other units. The following is a basic overview of the melee format attack patterns of this unit.

    - Buster Slash

This is a high-speed assault technique in which energy is concentrated into the five "Rushing Laser Blades" equipped on the head and makes use of the unit's performance to charge through the target. With the fragile armor of the Zero Schneider, it's a high-risk strategy against enemy fire, but it's the most frequently used of these strategies because of its destructive power, which is focused into a singular point, and because it can be used continuously.

    - Fire Blade Storm

This is where the Five Rushing Blades and an Energy Shield, the "E-Shield" is used. It dares to charge while providing solid defense in all directions. It's an effective attack against large scale Zoids or multiple enemies approaching in a tight formation.

    - Twin Blade Attack

Used by combining the E-Shield with the two large swords, the "Laser Blades" equipped on either side of the body, this move is effective against highly mobile enemies. It could be said that this is a basic strategy in high-speed combat, a strategy that has been proven by the Blade Liger and transferred to the Schneider.

    - Seven Blade Attack

The Schneider deploys all seven of its blades, concentrating all of its energy on the blades and the E-Shield, utilizing the "E-Field Film Forming Armor" with the specialized paint, which diffuses the E-Shield's field in minute amounts. This turns the entire machine into an optical spear weapon, at which point it charges at maximum acceleration. This is the Schneider's most destructive attack, but it consumes all of its energy at once, reaching the limit of the unit's cooling function, resulting in the machine coming to a complete stop after this attack. Therefore, this is a secret guaranteed one-shot strategy.

    - The Schneider in Combat

In the Western Continent War, the Schneider was operated by pilots who preferred high-speed combat, including Second Lieutenant Cicily Volta, the only woman among the Ray Force's Leomasters during the invasion of the Continent of Nyx. It was used in formation with other Liger Zeros to intercept powerful Zoids such as the Imperial Army's Death Saurer and Death Stinger, and it took advantage of its melee capabilities to put an end to them.

In Zoids Battles, fighting competitions held after the great war, Bit Cloud, a Liger Zero pilot belonging to Team Blitz, used it alongside the other CAS units depending on the situation. It could be said that he was the only pilot who operated the Schneider with the CAS System fully functional, even if it wasn't under the extreme conditions of the battlefield.
