- Extra Details

  •  While working on the box art for this Command Wolf variant, Mercy Rabbit incorporated a suggestion from Sergeant Yamazaki (a modeler at Kotobukiya) to show the Liger Zero on each of the team's box arts. This was because the Zero was so representative of New Century /ZERO.

  • - History of the Command Wolf LC & AC Barad Ver.

    - Battle Wounds

The Backdraft Group were bosses of gambling-based Zoid Battles, in which they forcibly hijacked regular Zoid Battles and added two conditions: "if you win, you get a large sum of prize money", and "if you lose, you forfeit your Zoids". Team Blitz had been targeted by them and Rinon Toros's beloved Dibison had been damaged beyond repair, so the team had loaded their Zoids onto their Hover Cargo mothership and were now making their way across a vast desert region, heading for the Zoid shop in Romeo City to pick up Rinon's new Zoid, a Gun Sniper.

During their journey, Team Blitz's aerial combat Zoid Pteras and high-speed land combat Zoid Command Wolf were being tuned up after being injured by the Backdraft Group. The Pteras's pilot Jamie Hemeros had finished all his work, and was following a blue-and-silver wolf as it ran at high speed below him. This was the blue Command Wolf operated by Ballad Hunter, a Zoid Warrior registered with their team. The Zoid was equipped with the speed-increasing units Assistance Boosters, a new piece of equipment they had purchased from a junk dealer along the way, and had been performing repeated high-speed running-fire tests with the Long-Range Rifle mounted on its back. However...

"No good, Jamie, let's head back. Help me get the rifle down..."

Ballad's words were interrupted by a sudden explosion! It was an impact on the Pteras. Jamie's scream echoed across the Zoids' radios.

    - Unexpected Guests

At the source of the shot were two Molga Cannonries, caterpillar-type Zoids equipped with cannons, and four Guysacks, scorpion-type Zoids. It was a raid by the Zoid Bandidos, bandits who assaulted passers-by. The Hover Cargo's autocannons attacked the approaching Bandido Zoids.

"You walking jinx! Hurry up and head out!"

As Rinon operated them, she took out her irritation at not being able to fight in her own Zoid on Bit.

"It's not my fault! Bit and Liger, taking off!"

With the appearance of the white lion, the Bandidos' attacks grew even more intense.

    "Come in to land, Jamie!"

As Doctor Toros gave directions, the Hover Cargo's side panel opened, guiding the damaged Pteras in to land.

    "Aaah, my Pteras..."

The hatch opened and Jamie appeared, acting the same as usual. But in exchange for recovering the Pteras, the Hover Cargo's container room was filled with flames, making it impossible for the Liger Zero to swap equipment. In the meantime, Ballad's Command Wolf provided moving bombardment. However, there was no sign of its usual splendid and accurate shooting, and no enemies were within the explosions of its few shots.

"My aim's shaky. Is it the sights? No, maybe the barrel's unsteady too..."

The damage that the Long-Range Rifle had taken in the previous battle was more serious than he had imagined.

"Doc, I'm gonna swap the Rifle for Long-Range Cannons. I'm coming into the Cargo!"

"You can't, we haven't finished putting out the fires from the Pteras yet! The only option would be to swap them using the external work crane!"

"We'll just have to try it."

Without waiting for Ballad's reply, Doctor Toros slowed the Hover Cargo's travel speed and began preparing to swap the Command Wolf's equipment.

"But we're under attack... He's being reckless again..."

Jamie muttered as he desperately continued putting out the fires. The Bandidos' Zoids drew close, figuring this was their chance.

"Rinon, if we sell off the Bandidos' Zoids, you'll be able to put even more heavy equipment on your Zoid!"

"Yeah! I'll finish 'em off, then!"

Doctor Toros's words had plenty of effect at increasing the strength of the Hover Cargo's defensive bombardment. The Liger Zero also returned fire. But it had poor footing in the desert and couldn't bring the freely-moving Guysacks into melee combat, and the Molga Cannonry bombardment prevented it from getting close.

    "Bit, you draw them off!"

    "You owe me for this!"

"Don't be ridiculous! Have you forgotten our earlier battle?!"

In their previous battle against the Backdraft Group, the Elephander battle, Ballad had created time for the Liger Zero to swap to its Jager equipment.

"Oh, then I guess this makes us even..."

The Liger Zero ran off. The Bandidos' attacks concentrated on the rarely-seen white Liger-type.

    - Move Out! Command Wolf AC

Jamie gave up on putting out the Pteras's fires and operated the crane.

"Ballad, we haven't tuned the Long-Range Cannons yet!"

"I test-fired them when I bought them! I'll adjust the sights myself!"

The Long-Range Rifle disappeared from the Command Wolf weapon monitor display in front of Ballad's eyes, and the Long-Range Cannons appeared.

    "This is..."

In the age of the Western Continent War, the AZ 2-Barrelled 250mm Long-Range Cannons were the equipment of a special-duty force. Their equipment data shouldn't have been input on a general-specification Command Wolf. However, Ballad's Command Wolf recognised them as its normal equipment.

    "Swap complete! Requesting confirmation!"

"OK! Command Wolf AC and Ballad, here we go!"

As he fine-tuned the fire control system, he started walking and ignited the boosters. Kicking up the sand reliably, he entered a high-speed run. He caught two Guysacks side-by-side in his sights. The right barrel roared, then after a brief pause, the left barrel. Direct hits! He drew closer and finished them each off with his forepaws. He then faced off squarely against the two waiting Molga Cannonries. Dodging their gunfire as if dancing, he scored a hit on one, jumped to avoid the other's attack, then fired in midair and destroyed it. The two remaining Guysacks that had come closer to back up the Molga Cannonries saw what happened to their teammates and changed direction. They started to flee but were unable to pull away from the Command Wolf AC, and with a shot from each barrel at the same time, they exploded and were scattered to the winds.

    "This is your natural form."

As if in response to Ballad's words, the blue-and-silver wolf that had brought him satisfying results gave a roar across the sandy ground.

    "Amazing, Ballad!"

"Now I can arm my Zoid to the teeth!"

"If we sell the bandits' Zoids, it'll help pay off my debt!"

    "My Pteraaaas~"

The radio calls busily coming in from his teammates didn't give Ballad time to savour his victory.

"Doc, I'm taking the Bandidos' Zoids as my reward."

    "Whaaa~!?"

His name was Ballad Hunter. He was a first-rate Zoid Warrior, and at the same time, a first-rate bounty hunter.

    - Command Wolf Ballad Spec.

Command Wolf, a wolf-type Zoid developed by the Helic Republic during the Central Continent War. It excels at high-speed combat, and its various armaments can be changed by using its optional mounts. Because of its ability to adapt to various environments thanks to its wild nature, it has long been a key combat Zoid in the main force of the Helic Republic Army. The Zoid War Ballad Hunter who belongs to Team Blitz and participates in Zoid Battles, uses a Command Wolf as his favorite machine. This machine's shining blue metallic paint is the Majestics Anti-Beam Paint, which helps with heat dispersion, enemy sensor disturbance, and optical resistance to mitigate the impact of beam weaponry. From the many types of armaments available on this machine, the Long Range Rifle is mounted to take advantage of Ballad's own sniper abilities. In Zoid Battles, he has contributed to his team's success by choosing the right sniping point and firing his shots like threading through the hole of a needle.

After Team Blitz welcomed Bit Cloud and his machine, the lion-type Zoid "Liger Zero" as its members, it was equipped with the AC (Attack Cannon Custom) equipment, an AZ 2-Barrelled 250mm Long Range Cannon, which was used by the special operations force in the previous war, and the Assistance Boosters, matching the Command Wolf's bombardment abilities and mobility with the Zero. Ballad's piloting skills and the abilities of this individual Wolf demonstrates the top-class performance of the Command Wolf AC during wartime. As a companion machine to the Liger Zero, it functioned as a key player in bringing victory to Team Blitz.

    Review

    - Limited Command Wolf LC & AC Barad Version

Number of Pieces: 364 | Number of Frames: 29 | Custom Pilot: Brad Hunter

Barad's Command Wolf is your all-in-one blue sparklewuf. It comes with every weapon released in other Command Wolf designs prior and has a metallic blue sheen. When this Zoid was first shown online it looked like it was extremely sparkly. Unfortunately the actual wolf is no where near this level of sparkly. The sparkles are barely visible in bright lighting, and invisible in dark lighting. It is still a very vibrant blue, though!

Build wise it's nice and stury. Stands well, holds its own weight. There are few loose parts, I've only had issues with a single leg disc and the ever-infernal belly tubes that plague earlier designs. Command Wolves are generally some of the most reliable Kotobukiya Zoids.

There isn't much to say about this Zoid. It's a nice kit and there are few flaws! The main things that annoy me is the name "Barad" (especially when Brad is clearly printed on the decals) and the fact that its tail is blue. The box art, the pre-production photos, the instructions, every media promotion of this Zoid shows it with a black tail, and they still neglected to paint those parts.

    Pros:
     -Nice and sturdy
     -Uncommon vibrant metallic blues
     -Custom painted pilot
-Additional weapons and features from original design

    Cons:
-Color sorely misrepresented in online photos
     -Marbling on most plastic
-Blue armor can be severely damaged by super glue

    - Box Art

    Gimmicks

    - Cockpit

The orange canopy of the Command Wolf opens up and the control console that holds in the pilot can also flip upwards. The kit comes with a painted figure of Brad Hunter, the Command Wolf's pilot!

    - Jaws

Command Wolf has some nice sharp teeth that lets it eat other poor defenseless Zoids. Sadly the jaws barely open because of the "fluff" pieces under the neck.

    - Head

The head is on a hinge joint that allows it to rotate up and down at the section where it attachs to the neck. This closely mimics the motorized model kit.

    - Neck

The neck itself swings up and down but I wasn't able to get a good picture of this. It does, however, also move side to side! Which you can see here.

    - Chest

The whole front part of the chest is a door that flips open. When it's down you can pull the Zoid Core out by grabbing onto the little bar on the front.

    - Belly Tubes

The belly tubes are part of an older Zoid design that was later decomissioned in future designs. They are very frustrating, but the box between the two larger panels slides forwards and backwards so these tubes come out all the time.

    - Front Leg

The forearms are built to rotate at the 'elbow'. The range of movement is slightly limited by the blue shoulder armor. Seen in the last two images the top of the shoulder rotates a little seperately from the rest of the upper leg. You can see here (if you look carefully) that there's a gap in the back of the leg.

    - Back Leg

The back leg works much the same as the front leg. Unlike some of the other quadruped Zoids the knee is stationary and not a seperate rotating piece.

    - Paws

The black toes of the feet attach to a small rotating piece that allows the toes to bend seperately from the rest of the foto. This makes for some really nice poses that flow a bit more naturally than on other Zoids.

    - AC Gun

Brad's Command Wolf ends up with this weapon as its final version. It is the most anime accurate version for this kit but with all the weapon options you can build it however you want! Both barrels rotate seperately. Unlike the motorized kit the little antenna thing on the top does not move. The panels on the side are also on a bar that spins at both ends, so they can flip up or down.

    - Standard Gun

The standard gun uses a different attachment that is used for both it and the Irvine version gun. It rotates up and down just a little. The gun itself also swivels quite far and the barrels swing up and down, moving seperately. The orange canopy over the top of the gun opens up. The Zoid does come with an additional pilot but I don't have it pictured.

    - Irvine Gun

This weapon is pretty unique in the redesign. It swivels up and down since it uses the same attachment as the standard gun. It also rotates 360 degrees. The bars that hold the two side barrels actually swing back and forth but I'm not sure why this is because they're locked into place when assembled. A small canopy on the top is well armored, not meant to resemble the glass used for other Zoid's cockpits.

    - Boosters

These don't actually move very much but they have some nice detail, so here's a preview!

    - Tail

The tail is on a ball joint that lets it rotate a bit. It can also move up and down but not very much.

    - Shoulder Weapons

This kit comes with the two brand new guns that were used with the Command Wolf AC version. The two barrel cannons rotate up and down and so does the gatling gun. They are equipped in place of the small discs in the shoulder.
