- AZ-07 Death Saurer

- Introduction

 Takara Tomy's 100th anniversary product.

ADVANCED - It's a step towards further evolution, the development of common sense. This is the highest of brands, which embodies the ultimate forms of moving kits and incorporates 'reconstruction', 'refinement', and 'sophistication' based on the themes set for each Zoid.

These are 1/72 scale assembly kits. By turning on the motor, it not only walks like a dinosaur, but also recreates the rotating movements of the Charged Particle Forced Intake Fan, which is characteristic of the anime.

The eyes, neck, chest, Charged Particle Cannon, and Charged Particle Forced Intake Fan on the back light up with LEDs. It includes a 1/72 scale figure of the anime character Prozen and two original generic soldier figures that can be seated in the cockpit.

It also includes a figure of Prozen in a standing pose, which was characteristic of the anime. (All figures are unpainted.)

You can also have it stand in place and enjoy just the LED lighting gimmick by adjusting the switch.

- Notes

  • According to a Hobby Watch article, when they first started talking about the next kit to commercialize it was down between the Gojulas and the Death Saurer. Ultimately Death Saurer was chosen.

- Challenge and Exploration

Every part reconstructed down to the last detail.

Pursuit of realism in movement, dynamism, and a sense of vitality.

Re-examination of the old kit and the settings from the anime.

Not only has the design of the original kits released in 1987 and 1999 been re-examined based on the design settings of the anime, but the overall silhouette and design, down to the details of each individual part such as the face, arms, legs, torso, and tail have all been updated.

- Design Discussion

Overall Design Concept Sketch

The overall silhouette of the original Death Saurer wasn't changed too much, and the aim was to achieve high detail while still following its design as a realistic weapon. The proportions and styling were modified to lean forward, making it more like a dinosaur. Also, since the main premise was that the tail would be raised, the legs were modified to be longer. In addition, designs for the chest hatch and knee cylinders were newly added with the anime's design in mind.

Armor Side View - Final Design

The final sketch of the side view was created based on the final sketch of the overall design. 3D data was created based on this sketch, and adjustments were made to the overall design and each part.

Face

Some areas, such as behind the clear parts have been enhanced by adding details where it appeared rather bland due to a lack of protruding shapes in the silhouette.

Arms

In order to express the internal structure of the Death Saurer in its base form, the arms have a newly-created base design.

More Parts

In order to create more realistic armor around the neck, legs, and back fan, pipes have been added to each area and small parts such as fins have been made into separate pieces.

Back

By deepening the mold in various places it offers an even more profound expression. In addition, the power switch has been modified to be smaller.

Tail

The design for the tail with the armor removed. The heat dissipation and weapon covers, as well as the fin-shaped parts on the bottom are new interpretations of design details that take heat dissipation from firing the charged particle cannon into account.

- Motorized Actions

From the beginning of its development, the focus was on recreating the smooth bipedal walking action of a mech with a stable center of gravity, while still giving it a sense of weight. Furthermore, the goal was to express not only the external movements of the neck, arms, and legs, but also the movement of the internal structure. In other words, to give it an overflowing sense of life as a living organism.

Internal Structure: Early ~ Final Sketch

In the pursuit of realism as a Zoid, metallic lifeforms, the internal movements were verified from the early stages of development. The design incorporates many parts that make the Death Saurer look and feel realistic in action, such as the rotating mechanism of the circular parts at the base of the arms and legs and the sliding parts inside the torso.

Motorized Actions

Driven by a motor, it walks realistically, as if it has a life of its own. In tandem with this, the whole body moves from the head to the tail. The neck and head lean forward, mimicking the firing sequence of the charged particle cannon.

01: The Charged Particle Cannon in the mouth and the eyes light up, and the armor parts on the back of the neck expand and contract, and also emit light from within.

02: The Zoid Core inside the chest glows.

03: The left and right arms move up and down.

04: The Charged Particle Forced Intake Fan rotates and glows.

05: The tail moves left and right.

Cylinders

The cylinders in each part expand and contract in conjunction with the mech's walking motion, ensuring realistic movement as a metallic lifeform.

Display Mode

By switching the power switch to display mode, you can enjoy just the LED lights from the Zoid Core and Charged Particle Forced Intake Fan.

01: The Charged Particle Cannon in the mouth and the eyes light up, and the armor parts on the back of the neck also emit light from within.

02: The Zoid Core inside the chest glows.

03: The Charged Particle Forced Intake Fan emits light.

Movable Weapons / Armor

Each weapon, such as the AEZ 20 mm Beam Gun and the Small-Calibre Anti-Surface Laser Machine Gun, as well as each armor part are movable. By equipping it with so many moving parts it becomes a mechanical highlight.

01: The head cockpit hatch opens.

02: The Charged Particle Forced Intake Fan armor opens.

03: The 16-Shot Missile Launcher cover opens.

04: The chest Zoid Core hatch.

05: The tail heat exhaust cover opens.

- Recreation

We've also re-examined the unit's setting and design from the anime. Replacement parts for the armored Charged Particle Converter seen in the Guardian Force arc and a scale figure of Imperial Regent Gunther Prozen have also been included. The faithful recreation of scenes from the anime have added to the appeal of this product.

Charged Particle Forced Intake Fan

A device that rotates at high speed, sucking in charged particles from the air to supply energy to the synchrotron generator when firing the Charged Particle Cannon.

In the anime, the Death Saurer's Zoid core fused with the Death Stinger's Zoid core, strengthening its armor, and at the same time, the Charged Particle Forced Intake fan on its back evolved into a Charged Particle Converter.

Chest Zoid Core Hatch

We've recreated the chest hatch depicted in the anime scene where the Death Saurer's Zoid Core fuses with the separated Death Stinger core and returns to the main body of the Death Saurer.

Leg Cylinders

The cylinders depicted on the Death Saurer's legs in the anime have been recreated.

Gunther Prozen 1/72 Scale Figure

The set includes a Gunther Prozen figure that can be seated in the Death Saurer's head or abdominal cockpit. It also comes with a standing figure that can be displayed beside it.
