Death Saurer - Colored Version

Death Saurer is probably one of the coolest statues in the set. However, it's also by far the most flimsy. Not only does it not set into the stand very well, due to very short pegs (for a material that can gradually warp over time), but the pieces just don't attach very well to begin with. The head and tail, especially, fall off constantly.

It's also worth mentioning that the flame on the stand does not actually stick to the base. It just kind of sits over a slot on it. Warping is especially notice with the Deathies too, since it can result in the flame not lining up with the mouth. You can usually bend it back into place, though, and the transparent head pieces are subtle but really cool looking. In dim lighting, it's not very visible.

Note: Some of these photos (with the full orange fire) were taken years ago. At the time, I think I mixed the Death Saurer's flame up with the Bloody Death Saurer. The one that comes with Death Saurer is the one with white around the base (I think.)

Death Saurer - Grayscale Version

I love all the grayscale figures released for the art statues, but there's something especially haunting about the stone Death Saurer standing admit what looks like ash-covered brick. It has a serious fallen war machine vibe. What's especially cool is that the flame is still ever-so-slightly transparent, taking on the color of obsidian. This is the brown you see in the photos, translucency.

Bloody Death Saurer

The Bloody Death Saurer isn't technically part of Volume 1, but I couldn't separate it from its brothers. This figure was released as an early purchase benefit for the release of Zoids Saga II, and features a bloody red coloring with black weathering. The head is still translucent brown, and the flames have no white painted around the spiraling at the bottom, making them even more vibrant. The base is painted in a gray stone coloring with light dusting.

Death Stinger - Colored Version

The Death Stinger art statue is especially cool because, as some of you may know, the Death Stinger's actually a eurypterid (sea scorpion) rather than a traditional scorpion. The base for the statue is a gorgeous blue wave, fading from a deep blue in the center, to a beautiful shallow blue in the middle and white along the edges. The one down side about it is that the water's quite prone to yellowing over time if you don't take good care of it.

That aside, the statue contains a lot of nicely-sculpted detail, and while most art statues are completely devoid of 'features', the Death Stinger's mask is actually removable, so you can see the evil scorpion eyes beneath. Extra buddy details like the smol Maccurtis on the back of the sea-swept rock are just icing on the cake.

(CHASE FIGURE) Wild Liger - Colored Version

The first chase figure of the Art Statues is the Liger Zero's wild form. This is the only official product we've gotten for this design, and to quite a few NJR era fans, it holds a strong nostalgia. The statue features a wild Liger Zero leaping through the air, swinging its claws down aggressively. The metal pillar beside it, with a torn out (core?) laying on the ground in the exposed wires hooks into the Liger's hip area, preserving a natural-looking leap.

One of the things I like about this figure is the use of blue hues in the metal frame. It really helps separate the black paint of the liger. The face details are rather dull, but that's really the only complaint I've got.
