Having secured a strong bridgehead at Entrance Bay, the Republican Army immediately launched an advance into the depths of the Dark Continent. After landing, they succeeded in capturing the central section of the continent, spanning from the Bifrost Plain to the Thrym Highlands in just one month.
The reason the Republican Army was so easily able to win the first phase of their landing battle was because the Imperial Army Command had assumed that the landing sites of the Republican Army would be somewhere between the Nifl Wetlands to the Mid Plain. In order to invade Entrance Bay without being noticed by the Imperial Navy, they would have instead have to pass through the Triangle Daras, a powerful electromagnetic sea. That should've been impossible. Therefore, the defenses east of the Bifrost Plain were extremely poor.
However, the time eventually came when the rapid advance of Republican forces came to a halt. The Imperial Guard units in the Nifl Wetlands, Mid Plain, and Valhalla turned around and attacked the Republic's forces from three sides. The total strength of the two armies in the clash was approximately 150 divisions for the Republican Army (about 3,000,000 soldiers and 150,000 combat Zoids). The Imperial Army had about 200 divisions (about 4,500,000 soldiers and 180,000 combat Zoids), an unprecedented scale. The "War of Attrition" that Prozen had planned was about to begin. However, at the same time, Prozen also had an unforeseen accident. An encounter between the Eisen Dragoons and the Republican Army's Ray Force was about to reveal his ambitions.
