Helcat is a small-scale Zoid that specializes in stealth and ambush tactics, as well as mountain warfare. Its been featured in a wide variety of media.  [1]

- Details of Design

Stealth Functions

The Helcat is a high-speed Zoid which is said to be able to move at high speeds even over the roughest terrain. It has shock absorbers and sound muffling functions equipped to its legs, allowing it to move more quietly. In addition, the body is equipped with various exhaust systems that suppress heat radiation, making it difficult to detect. Much of this technology was said to be later reused by the Sabretiger, and the Helcat has remained in active combat due to its great success. [2]

- Military History

ZAC 2034, Rollout

The Helcat was created in response to the success of the Republic's ambush Zoid, the Guysack, rolled out as the first high-speed combat Zoid ever developed. Its technology was referenced for the future Sabretiger, and once construction of the larger, more robust cat was complete, they were placed together in high-speed combat units. They opposed the Republic's high-speed units, which consisted of Shield Ligers and Command Wolves.

ZAC 2099, October, Ruins of Mount Olympus

The well-adapted Helcat, which excelled at warfare within mountainous terrain, was assigned by the Imperial Command to guard the ruins near the summit of Mount Olympus. At these ruins, a top secret project was being carried out to revive the most terrifying weapon from Zenebas' former days, the Death Saurer.

The Republic's 2nd Independent High-Speed Combat Battalion reached the summit, and the Helcats engaged in active combat to defend the ruins. They fought alongside Iguan allies, but were unable to suppress the invading unit. Much to everyone's horror, the incomplete Death Saurer came to life. It turned its Charged Particle Cannon against both their enemies, and its own guard. The Helcats were obliterated in the blast.

- Equipment Information

- 3D Radar Antenna

3D Radar Antenna:

During the Western Continent War, Helcats were retrofitted with a 3D Radar Antenna, which consisted of the tail. This technology would allow the Helcat to detect enemies both in a 360 degree range and in the air.

- Anti-Zoid 20mm 2-Barrel Beam Gun

Anti-Zoid 20mm 2-Barrel Beam Gun:

The Helcat's back gun. Like most Imperial Zoids, it leans on energy-based equipment. In this case, the gun is attached to a peg that allowed it to rotate 360 degrees.

- Composite Sensor Unit

Composite Sensor Unit:

The Composite Sensor is the small backpack like piece on the Helcat's upper back. It's another piece of equipment that was added in later model Helcats, though its effects aren't clearly described.

- Optical Camouflage

Optical Camouflage:

OFB4 references X's equipment when it says that Optical Camouflage functions by taking an image of the area behind and projecting it onto an energy screen in front of the Zoid, making it appear invisible. However, when moving at high speeds, the camouflage struggles to keep up, creating distortions in the camouflage.

What's odd is that in the battle story, Helcats were never featured using Optical Camouflage. Not on the boxes, the descriptions, or within the story itself. Its stealth functions were limited to heat suppression and silencer systems. It wasn't until Official Fan Book 4 that an offhand comment made reference to the technology being around since the Helcat. The anime gave them a distinct predator-like invisibility, calling it a Stealth Shield and making them famous for a technology they were never seemingly meant to have.

- Small-Calibre 2-Barrel Laser Machine Gun

Small-Calibre 2-Barrel Laser Machine Gun:

Helcat's second weapon is the Laser Machine Gun, attached to its chest. Although it's also on a swiveling joint, the front legs prevent it from turning very far.
