Story Information
Pilots: Introduction:
  • Capri Conrad
Grounchar, a pride of the Eisen Dragoon is a small subterranean Zoid focused around electromagnetic warfare. It specializes in using jamming waves to disable enemy machines, leaving them to the mercy of its own allies.  [1]

- Concept Art

This concept was teased as an upcoming Zoid in the CoroCoro June 2001 issue. At this point its design was mostly complete, but it seemed to be lacking the magnezers.

A few Grounchar concepts were featured in the October 2001 issue of Dengeki Hobby Magazine. The second concept shows some interesting ideas. The Laser Swords were at one point designed around a spring mechanism to make the swords jump up. The pilot seat also would've doubled as an independent platypus-themed vehicle (seen just above the individual diamond spike designs.) The fourth concept image also shows extendable weapons (guns or arm manipulators) that could extend from the mouth, as well as hatch eyes that could rotate up on the head, allowing the pilot to climb in and out.

- Military History

ZAC 2101, August, Assault of the Ray Force

When the Ray Force stumbled upon the Eisen Dragoons in the process of slaughtering Guylos defense forces, they decided to stay in the area, against warnings from Wolff Muroa. Almost immediately they were beset by jamming waves that rendered their Zoids inoperable, and after that, they became cannon fodder to the Dragoon's countless small-scale Zoids. Grounchars were responsible for these Jamming Waves, and they almost sealed the fate of the Ray Force, had the Republic not air-dropped Gunblusters into the area. Their specialized E-Shields were able to cut the effectiveness of the jamming waves down, giving the Ray Force enough of a distraction to reorganize in spite of the dire circumstances.

ZAC 2101, December, Invasion of the Central Continent

When Valhalla went up in flames it served as a signal for the Eisen Dragoons to move in on the central continent of Delpoi. Their target was Helic City. Countless Zoids moved out from the Dragoon Nests, including Grounchars, and with most of the Republic's main forces overseas fighting a war, their homeland was almost defenseless. Between the jamming waves of Grounchars, the electrical hijacking of Dark Spiners, and numerous other state-of-the-art machines employed by the Dragoons, the western half of the continent, including the former Zenebas capital fell into the Empire's hands just three weeks after their landing at Cook Bay.

ZAC 2106, Spring, Battle of Cook Fortress

The Republican Army had succeeded in stalling the destruction of its most important base, protected by mountains and the harsh winter. In Spring, they needed to take action before the Empire, who'd fully surrounded them, could close in. So they targeted Cook Fortress, an impenetrable fortress that would serve as the perfect base. During this onslaught the Republic rolled out the Gojulas Giga and a variety of other Zoids. Knowing how dangerous it could be, Grounchars, one of the prides of Neo Zenebas, began targeting the Giga from underground. Its eager escorts had wandered too far ahead, and they succeeded in damaging its joints. Even so, the fierce fighting led to the Republic claiming Cook Fortress the next day.

- Notable Facts

  • In spite of being a smaller Zoid the Grounchar is said to stand its ground against medium-scale Zoids thanks to its melee equipment, even when it's above ground.

- Equipment Information

- Hyper Killer Claw

Hyper Killer Claw: ハイパーキラークロー×4

The claws on the feet. These aren't given much use for us to learn from, but we can probably presume that they're used in close-range combat as well as to aid its digging, like its real life counterpart.

- Laser Sword x3

Laser Sword x3: レーザーソード×3

The Laser Swords refer to the three rows of translucent blades on the Grounchar's back. These weapons shuffle forwards and backwards, and with enemies disabled by the jamming waves, it can attack at its leisure. The blades can also be detached and equipped to the arms of the Berserk Führer, and when in use, glow with an eerie orange energy.

- Pulse Laser Gun x1

Pulse Laser Gun x1: パルスレーザーガン×1

The Pulse Laser Gun sits under the jaw, between the two Magnezers. As its name implies it's an energy weapon, but it hasn't been depicted much, so there's not much more to know.

- Small Magnezer x2

Small Magnezer x2: 小型マグネーザー×2

When the Grounchar's intending to use its jamming waves, it burrows underground with the drills. These two Magnezers are then used to tunnel its way through the ground at speeds of roughly 20 ~ 30 km/h depending on the density of the bedrock.

- Super-hard Drill x4

Super-hard Drill x4: 超硬度ドリル×4

These powerful drills are attached to the legs of the Grounchar, which can fold up under its body during use, turning the drills towards the ground. By rapidly spinning the weapons it can quickly burrow underground, to a depth of about 20 meters. This is more than sufficient to protect it from enemy Zoids while still allowing it to use its jamming waves.

- Triple Laser Gun

Triple Laser Gun: トリプルレーザー砲×1

This weapon is set between the laser swords of the back, and face behind the Grounchar to provide some additional defense.

- Jamming Waves

Jamming Waves: ジャミングウェーブ

Perhaps the Grounchars most terrifying weapon. Its jamming waves causes enemy Zoids to lose electronic function, effectively rendering them defenseless and immobile. These electromagnetic waves are comparable to the powerful ones seen in the Triangle Daras, and with the Grounchar underground, beyond the reach of enemies, there's nothing they can do to counterattack.
