- Military History

Zoids Wild, Drake

((SPOILERS)) In the Zoids Wild anime, a red Gilraptor is piloted by Drake. This Zoid formerly belonged to his parents, and when they were killed by Gallagher's crew, he was given the option to choose which of the two Zoids got to live. The Red Gilraptor or the White Gilraptor. He almost chose the red, having grown more attached to the white, but the White Gilraptor took matters out of his hands and attacked the Gilraptor Commander before a choice could be made. It was subsequently killed, and fed to the Death Rex.

Drake then became the pilot of the red Gilraptor, and used it as his main Zoid in the Death Metal Empire. This extended to using Death Keys on the Gilraptor, in spite of the damage that it did to his Zoid. His treatment of the Gilraptor worsened when Gallagher began to threaten to feed them to the Death Rex. Drake committed to pushing the Gilraptor well past its limits to accomplish their missions, even after he'd seen the Commander destroyed when it was sent with him on one of these do-or-die missions.

This all culminated until a final fight between him and Arashi. During the battle, the Gilraptor rose time and time again, in spite of the mounting damage. Eventually, the strain of the fight caused the Death Key to shatter. Yet, still, the Gilraptor supported its pilot, and by the end of the battle, Drake had come to realize their bond. The Gilraptor shattered the Death Key lock on its neck and instead ejected a true Zoid Key, entrusting Drake as its true companion.

Zoids Wild EX-ZERO, Lieutenant Cutter Berg

In this story, a Commander's Gilraptor was known for its difficult behavior, too fierce for anyone to pilot. It was eventually usede by Lieutenant Cutter, who piloted the Zoid with such precision that they alone, without the aid of other units, dealt a serious blow to the Republican Army. Under his control, this raptor became the Gilraptor Cutter Spec. Their performance got them recognized by the Empire, and Cutter was promoted to First Lieutenant.

- Equipment Information

- Head Radar

Head Radar: ヘッドレーダー

The unusual protrusions on Gilraptor's head are the Zoid's radar, usually seen with silver piping on the sides. Unfortunately, none of the media seems to take advantage of this benefit. So, for now, the exact radius and effectiveness of this weapon is unknown.

- Jet Boosters

Jet Boosters: ジェットブースター

Gilraptor's Jet Boosters are the center of its high-speed abilities. While the Zoid is fast and agile on its own, the boosters are often depicted providing enough force that the Raptor hovers above the ground instead of runs. They're used as a part of its Wild Blast.

- Tail

Tail: 尻尾

Although this is only ostensibly a weapon, the Gilraptor often uses its tail to whack enemy Zoids.

- Talons

Talons: 鉤爪

Talons refers to the sickle-shaped claws on the Gilraptor. These fierce bladed weapons are useful in the way you'd expect from a raptor: Leaping onto an enemy and gouging them with the claws. Most often, Gilraptor is seen simply kicking or stomping targets.

- Wing Shotels

Wing Shotels: ウイングショーテル

Gilraptor's Wing Shotels, based on curved swords seen in Ethiopia are a part of its Wild Blast and its strongest weapon. They're usually used in conjunction with the boosters, for high speed slashes that'll tear down its opponent. Gilraptor has been observed using these weapons outside of a Wild or Death Blast before.
