Onigiri	Gannontoise is a heavy-armor Zoid, and perhaps one of the most well armored in Zoids Wild. It is the only kit in the first series to fully protect the pilot during combat, although this use seems to be limited to the Wild Blast. [1] After Zoid excavation became more common, the later Bazootle was first mistaken for Gannontoise remains by scientists. ^[1]

Zoids Wild, Onigiri

In the anime, Gannontoise' was a wild specimen, who lived near a lake. Onigiri, a promising young scientist, regretfully contaminated the lake while testing a substance that he thought would attract Wild Zoids. Devastated by this mishap, Onigiri spent a significant amount of time working on filtering and purifying the lake. When it finally started to clear, he discovered that Gannontoise hade been trapped at the bottom the whole time. He immediately set to caring for the Zoid, even staying with it when he got sick from the rain. This showed the Gannontoise that Onigiri truly cared about its well being, and it began to follow him.

The scars of this encounter were long-lasting for both of them. Onigiri suffered from immense guilt over being responsible for hurting Gannontoise, and Gannontoise developed a fear of deep water. These insecurities were only augmented when Onigiri was captured by the Death Metal Empire and forced to aid in the development and testing of Death Keys. He was forced to experiment on Gannontoise, and it wasn't until Arashi showed up and helped him escape that this behavior stopped.

Gannontoise finally opened up to Onigiri when he decided that they must destroy the facility, and set free any Zoids who were still trapped within. The Gannontoise gave Onigiri its Zoid Key, so that they might succeed in destroying the base together.

Gannon Cannon: ガノンキャノン

Gannontoise' only real weapon is the Gannon Cannon, which is used as part of its Wild Blast. During this phase the back opens up and the cannon extends forward, firing high-powered rounds at the enemy. Because of its relation to the Wild Blast, however, the cannon can only be fired a few times before the pilot and Zoid both become completely exhausted.

Back Shell, Front Shell, Side Shell: 背甲羅, 前甲羅, 側甲羅

The different-facing shells of the Gannontoise. The Front Shell protects its upper back while the Back Shell hides the Gannon Cannon. The Back Shell can lift up to reveal the cannon, and contains a special hatch that can hide and secure the pilot during combat. The Side Shells are actually capable of expanding to either side, creating a wider front-facing barrier.

- Ventilation Valve

Ventilation Valve: 換気弁

This refers to the hatch on top of Gannontoise' back. Usually it's open, with a pilot visibly sitting up in the back shell of the Gannontoise. During the Wild Blast, the hatch comes down to protect the pilot. This implies that it's ventilation for the pilot, not the Zoid.
