History

Simulation Test, Episode 35

In the old days, Dan was quite good friends with Krueger. They trained in the Republican Army together and made a bet about who'd pass the simulation test first, him or Krueger. Back then, nobody had ever passed the entirety of the test, and both felt that they would win, feeling they were the better pilot. The night before the test, however, the two men went out and got into a fight with some other soldiers. Both were in jail on the day of the test, so neither passed. The simulation would later be completed by Dan's own son, Bang Freiheit.

Death, Episode 49

Dan Freiheit was part of a Republican Army unit that was surveying surrounding ruins. Their hope was to find an Organoid, as rumors had begun spreading that the Empire had already acquired and were in the process of studying one. In the process of this they happened to pick up Raven, then just a child. The boy didn't communicate much, and didn't even remember his name. To Dan, he reminded him a lot of his son at home, Bang, who was right about the same age. He determined that he'd take Raven home with him, and raise the boys together. He thought it'd be good for Raven to have someone his age to play with.

However, just as soon as they discovered an Organoid capsule, the Imperial Army showed up. Lead by Prozen, they demanded that the Republic had over its capsule. If they failed to comply, they would burn the Wind Colony, Dan's home, to the ground. Dan didn't hesitate. It wasn't worth their lives. He agreed to hand over the Organoid if they swore to leave his men and his village alone. However, Halford, another soldier in their unit couldn't stand the idea that a second Organoid would fall into the hands of the Empire. He ran to the capsule and freed it, releasing Shadow into the world. The Organoid took flight, pursued by Prozen.

With such direct action taken against the Empire's terms, Dan had no choice but to fight. His Command Wolf was the best Zoid of their unit, which otherwise consisted of nothing but Godos and a Gustav. He asked Leon to take care of his children and charged the Empire directly, detonating his Zoid and taking his own life to wipe out the entire enemy platoon.

Though Dan died there, Leon would keep his promise, returning to look after Dan's children as they grew, providing guidance where he could.

- Notable Facts

  • Dan Freiheit's Command Wolf was named Sieg (Zeke in the English dub), and it's this Zoid that Bang named his Organoid after.

- Zoids

Command Wolf "Sieg"

Dan's Zoid, a Command Wolf named Sieg, wasn't anything particularly special in the series. It was always just a standard Command Wolf, working with the Republican Army. However, the Zoid was always exemplified by its sacrifice, giving its own life to save the lives of others. This act resulted in both Sieg and Dan's deaths, though the exact context of the situation changes depending on the media.
