- The Zoids Battle Commission

- Introduction

The Zoids Battle Commission is an organization that first appeared in the Zoids New Century /ZERO anime. This organization appears to oversee all sanctioned Zoid battles, ensuring the relative safety of those involved while being directly responsible for handling bad actors (in any aggressive means necessary.) Throughout the series their primary role is to set up battles and disperse judge capsules, which will then oversee battles from the ground.

Introduction

Judge Satelites are large stations that orbit Planet Zi, with numerous solar panel looking protrusions on the back of the ship. They're responsible for launching Judges to the planet's surface to oversee Zoid Battles. More than that, however, judge satelites ensure that bad actors aren't permitted to run freely across the planet. This isn't fool proof, as the judge satelite requires a connection with the actual Judge to know if something is amiss. When they do become aware of this, however, they launch a violent assault of lasers from the many guns on the underside of the satelite.

The two images above show off the port from which judge satelites are launched.

- Judge Capsule

Gallery

Introduction

Judge Capsules are containers launched from satelites to transport judges safely to the planet's surface. Once they open up, the Judge begins usual battle procedures. During this time, important messages such as red warning screens can flash across the interior screen in the capsule, serving as a large visual notice of complications that may require the battle to pause. Once the battle his complete, a powerful rocket on the underside of the vessel launches it back skyward, to redock with the satelite orbiting above.

Because of the importance of not only this vessel but its contents, the judge capsule is the first thing to be targeted in almost every unsanctioned battle. Bad actors need to take out the connection to the satelite temporarily if they're going to get away with their illegal activities, as the vengence of the ZBC is swift and has the potential to be quite final.

- Sanctioned Battles

Introduction

In a setting where neither the Empire or the Republic seem to be a standing faction anymore, new uses for Zoids have arisen in the form of sanctioned battles. Pilots fight in these competitive battles for fame, glory, and prize money, aiming to climb the ranks, all set on the elusive Class S. To keep battles friendly there's regulations set in place, enforced by the judge satelites. By and large pilots seem to follow these regulations, and should they prove particularly skilled they may even get the chance to enter the Royal Cup, a competition that opens up the final rank. Most battles some to take place on a battlefield between 4 kilometers.

Sanctioned battles must be scheduled ahead of time, with teams being notified of their next opponent and given basic information of the enemy team. This allows them time to strategize, bringing their best to the battlefield.

- Lose Conditions

  • A System Freeze by all of the team's Zoids will result in a loss.

  • Battles may end without a winner if unauthorized people enter the field. In this case, the battle is rescheduled, with our example of this being rather short notice (next day), meaning there isn't time to properly repair Zoids in between.

  • If a team requests to end the battle it's a forfeit, punishable by dropping multiple ranks.

  • - Notable Facts

  • Battle requests must be approved by the Zoids Battle Commission.

  • Battle requests can be random or requested by specific teams.

  • Judge launches must be approved by the Zoids Battle Commission.

  • If a Zoid is pre-registered to a team, a pilot can be registered at any time, including mid battle.

  • During battles individual pilots can accrue 'Target Points' which are awarded for the last hit to bring down an opponent. It doesn't seem to matter if they were 'kill stealing' their team mates.

  • - Battle Modes

    Introduction

Battle Modes are specific conditions set for a battle, restricting how pilots can fight. This introduces some interesting challenges in battle, but can also be quite restrictive. For example, in Episode 2, when Team Blitz fought Team Fluegel, they weren't allowed to use more than 6 long-ranged shots each. This forced them into an incredibly disadvantaged position, as Naomi Fluegel, who'd just organized her team was previously the undefeated 1 on 1 champion. She was renowned for her sniping skills, shooting down any Zoid before it could even get close. This boasted her confidence as a sniper, knowing she wouldn't need more than two shots per enemy, while making things extremely tight for Team Blitz, who now had the burden of figuring out how to handle her specialized Zoid. With battles able to be requested by specific teams, it's likely that Naomi requested this mode.

0982: Each team must use the same number of Zoids.
0983: Each team must use a max of 3 Zoids. It's legal to use less.
0988: Pilots can only use a maximum of 6 shots from their long-ranged weaponry. Close range is legal.
0999: No rules. Used for the Backdraft Group's illegal gambling matches.

    - Judge

    Introduction

In sanctioned Zoid Battles it's necessary for pilot decisions to be managed through pre-determined regulations. There are a number of rules in place to protect Zoid Warriors, and Judges launched to the battlefield make sure that they're followed. Each Judge watches from the sidelines, first showing the battle mode on the screen in its face. During the match they correct behavior where inappropriate and make final judgement calls in unexpected situations. Once victory conditions have been met, the Judge calls it, stating the winning team.

In situations where the rules aren't followed, the Judge makes the decision of how to follow them, often with a bit of sassy attitude. If the poor behavior doesn't cease, the Judge can call in a strike from the lasers of a Judge Satelite.
