The Empire began their advance from the western side of the continent, while the Republic was setting up on the eastern side. They first clashed across the Red Rust desert. At this point, the Guylos Empire had the strongest army on Planet Zi. While other countries had dedicated themselves to reconstruction efforts following the Great Catastrophe of Planet Zi, Guylos had dedicated 60% of their national budget to augmenting their military.
Guylos mobilised a force of 90 divisions made up of approximately 1.8 million personnel and 90,000 combat Zoids. They met little resistence from Europa itself, which lacked any major nations to stand against them. In just two weeks they had brought 30% of the continent under their control. The Republic launched their own force consisting of 30 divisions made up of approximately 600,000 personnel and 30,000 combat Zoids.
The southern forces of both armies started to advance towards Mount Olympus. In spite of the Republic being outnumbered 3 to 1, they made a choice that many deemed suicidal: To advance their army towards Mercurius Lake, where the mountain was located. They fought for one week before Guylos's aquatic units gained control over Mercurius Lake.
The Republican Army had suffered insurmountable damage right at the start of the battle, and defeat seemed imminent. Even with this massive difference, however, Guylos sought to completely eliminate all Republic troops that were currently stationed on Europa. They made use of blitzkrieg maneuvers to punch through enemy lines to the other side, surrounding the Republic soldiers and cutting off their escape routes before eliminating every single Zoid in sight.
This tactic almost worked, but as their differences in power increased, one of the Empire's small-scale units was destroyed before they could send out a distress signal. Then another, and another. The Empire instructed frontline forces to bulk up their defenses with Red Horns and Air Force units. They were assaulted by the Republic's High-Speed Combat Force, composed of Command Wolves and Shield Ligers.
With the High-Speed Combat Force mowing through enemies, the Republic seized its chance to reach Mount Olympus, and began bombing runs on Mercurius Lake to clear a path for them. In spite of their obvious disadvantage, the Republic chose to order all forces to support the 2nd Independent High-Speed Combat Battalion led by L.G. Halford, rather than retreat.
L.G. Halford's high-speed unit crossed Mercurius Lake and landed on the eastern side of Mount Olympus shortly after the Empire had landed in the west. The unit traveled by night, hiding among the shadows of the rocks by day. They were discovered by Second Lieutenant Stefan Skorzeny's Saber Tiger during a brightly-lit night. Halford confronted the Saber himself and ordered his subordinates to stay back to avoid friendly fire. Though his Liger's performance was inferior to that of the Saber Tiger, the Energy Shield gave him the single moment he needed to bring it down.
During the course of Halford's fight, reconnaissance units spied a giant Zoid being carried into the Imperial Base near the summit. One of the Double Sworders radioed in that the summit had fallen under Imperial control, leaving the High-Speed Combat Force stranded on Mount Olympus. Halford chose to follow his orders, and rather than retreating, continued towards the summit to destroy the ruins. His unit suffered heavy losses along the way.
The front lines of the Republican Army finally collapsed. Meanwhile, at the summit of Mount Olympus, the 2nd Independent High-Speed Combat Battalion led by Lieutenant Colonel L.G. Halford discovered the half-built remains of a Death Saurer. It was hooked up to the ancient ruins at the summit, with the obvious intent to revive the beast. Halford ordered his unit to prevent this revival, but even missing the entire lower half of its body, the Death Saurer was awakened by the presence of Halford's unit. It attacked both enemies and allies alike.
During the course of the attack the Death Saurer unleashed its Charged Particle Cannon, destroying the summit. However, the incomplete Death Saurer possessed no control system, and the backflow of energy caused extreme pain to the Zoid. Halford took advantage of this temporary distraction to destroy the Death Saurer's Zoid Core. The final breakdown of the Death Saurer's body resulted in an explosion that wiped out the Shield Liger and the Imperial Base where it was being constructed.
With their initial goal to destroy the ruins of Mount Olympus achieved, the Republican Army finally gave the order to retreat. Stealth Viper units were used to shoot down the pursuit units of the Empire, allowing their allies to narrowly escape total annihilation. At great personal risk, a single reconnaissance Double Sworder circled back around the Mount Olympus summit, searching for survivors as the Death Saurer's molecular breakdown was about to reach its climax. They were able to rescue First Lieutenant Tommy Paris. With the head of his Command Wolf air lifted off the mountain, the Republican Army also gained valuable analytical data of the ruins, which they put into use for their next generation of Zoids.
This large-scale battle ended with the Guylos Empire gaining control of more than 80% of northern Europa.
